Sorry to hear of your experiences cc, they sound troubling. But you were given a 60% chance of medication working and when it didn't you're using that as an arguement against all conventional western medicine? Very sorry to hear that too.

Any RCT's from reputable centres on the use of a specfic alternative therapy for symptom relief or decreased incidence of acute episode frequency in gout will, i'm sure, be given full attention should they be presented. Otherwise, I think we did this one pretty much to death on the homeopathy thread, so I'll not hijack this thread to rehash the same ground. Let's stick to gout.

Nobody's arguing against the conventional medicine BN5, I know you are a medical type and poss feel a little defensive.

I was just saying don't dismiss the benfits of a dietary change and the usefulness of herbs as hocus pocus.

PS - I think your analogy of sofas versus cows to sit on is not particularly good but I do know what you were trying to get across - did you mean the pun on vacca?

please mote!!!!

in ref to use of conventional medication

I said [quote name=not always the best]

which clearly states my view...

conventional medication is sometime the best option BUT NOT ALWAYS!!!

of course I'm not daft enough to use one personal experience, related to one health issue, as a basis to dismiss the value of all prescribed drugs in relation to all cases... that of course would be a completely ludicrous premis for an argument!

When deciding to go on to a prescribed drug for the rest of your life, it is important to be aware of the side effect and possible long term implications... here are a few of the side effect Benjaminty might want to weigh up before committing to taking the drug for 'life'

"Allopurinol:

Diarrhea; nausea.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Allopurinol:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blood in urine or painful urination; dark urine; fever, chills, or sore throat; irritation of the eyes; joint pain; loss of appetite; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; stomach pain; unexplained weight loss; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual muscle pain or weakness; yellowing of the skin or eyes.

This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your health care provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. You may also report side effects at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch ."

I thought the drinking of Port was what gave those traditional sufferers of gout i.e. Sailors, gout in the first place!

I assume that Pitt The Y. had fallen out with his Doctors...:))...thats the worst advice since Ally Ferguson was advised by person(s) unknown to buy Micky Owen..( he could NOT have possibly made that decision)....

I think old wise owl was counting on desperate Rafa to dive in at 11th hour to avoid indignity of Owen joining rivals United and hence screw up Liverpool's own plans by having the little wretch on board.. but instead it is Fergie left with Bupa man on his ship which could now be rocked at any time by the bull headed Owen.

Was it too much Port being drunk after this cunning plan backfired to explain why Fergie's face was as red as a beetroot on Sunday at Wimbledon.. >:D<

    • With fibre you are paying for the speed, which is the number, yours is 300 so if you did a lot of gaming, for example, you would want the fastest possible.  If it's just office work or maybe streaming on Netflix you likely won't need as fast, but, if there are a lot of people in your house all doing their own thing on different devices, then faster speeds are better.  I don't rely on my Wi-Fi much other than when I am using my mobile.  I use Ethernet cables to connect up everything, I Have one cable running from my router, along the skirtings and through a hole I drilled in the wall to another room.  I have attached the plusnet speed guide which gives you an idea of how it works.
    • I'd reread what you posted and try to summarise.  It just comes across as a rant.
    • Just shows, to me, once proud to be a citizen of UK.. now.. well if we pay/contribute to services - nhs, police, fire etc and folk who have made this there home - no matter what creed or culture.. for the love c of God, can someone  please explain to me.. how we have working royals who like them or not, have tried and continue to actually support and make a change and then we have Andrew.. who just destroys everything.. not just him, or royalty but his own children..  I had great admiration for The Queen - and respect.. as have a huge number of people.. but.. these old traditions where gosh.. live rent free and can’t get chucked out until I believe 2070? From what I scanned..well he has and continues to have it all.. has to go thru what old rules? Etc.  doubt very much he has even kept the upkeep maintenance up on his abode.. and do the shite keeps on pulling up.. What has Andrew done for UK or for that matter since he was 20?? Do please tell me       Totally off topic, before anyone jumps down my throat.. I just do not get how anyone is proud to be British at this point in time. Whoever is in power, seems to be able to help themselves to the public purse with no redress at all - Covid is a great example of lining of pockets.. Millions  given to Rowanda, so one is led to believe, to help with refugee problem and one can’t get a plane load off!  I simply do not get it at all. Use of food banks in UK growing yearly, homeless as well, nhs, police, fire service etc all on their knees..
    • Have applied the green roof at a number of properties and no issues you are concerned about detected. Have issues with cats defecating in the vicinity, however, they are not selecting the green roof specifically. Use decent compost, slow release fertiliser specific for green roofs, and lay it methodically not leaving blank patches. It looks amazing when cared for and adds value.
