It runs and I use it fairly regularly these days

Journey planners are Oooo kaayyy ish, but left to default settings they will suggest multiple routes

I've just asked it for a direct route to Clapham on Sunday, With buses only and it has come back with the 37 for every journey, no changes

It used to be a shocking service, frequency wise, but it is much better of late

I ran into the same problem last week and called transport for London. The guy on the phone apologised for their journey planner and said they knew it wasn't working properly. I just wanted to make sure the 37 was running and it took the TfL guy awhile to find the bus and tell me, yes, it was running.

Is it me or is the journey planner getting worse? I had a one hour journey yesterday timed, by the planner, as 1h 40m (so I was very early to my appointment).

Scylla

Bear in mind because it is holiday time there is less traffic on the roads so journeys do tend to be quicker than normal.

Imagine if you could link the TFL route database to a new real time journey planner that worked off the GPS feature on your iphone/mobile.

So that wherever you are you simply type in the destination only and it gives you your fastest route and time of the next tube/bus/tram/train in your vicinity.

Does this exist yet or should I be giving Dragons Den a call?

There is something developed at the moment which though not this sophisticated will be a real help. Using GPS techology in buses there will be an application which will tell you what time the next bus will come to your stop on your phone/pc. And it will be more reliable than the old countdown system at stops.

I've got an app on my iPhone which can use your current location to figure out where the next bus to wherever you type in is. V v useful... although subject to the usual Journey Planner oddities still.

An alternative root would be to take the 185 to the Oval & then the 155 to Clapham.

I take the 37 to & back from Clapham on Sundays, but the 37 bus seems to take forever. I don't understand this, as when I am in Clapham, the 37 bus appears regularly.

There are also trains from Peckham Rye/Denmark Hill to Wandsworth Road at 20 and 50 minutes. Journey time 9 minutes from PR. Then iirc there's the 77(a) bus direct. Though I think Pandora's two train stratagem (jouney time 25 min) would be hard to beat for a speed/predictability combination.

I went and spoke briefly to Tori Griffiths who told me that Renata and Victoria (Dulwich Hill Councillors) were aware of the issue and intend to vote again expansion of the gala.  She said I could contact her and/or them regarding concerns.

    • Half my family are medics, going back generations, and none of them would ever have gone, or would now go, on strike. I know times have changed, but my family knew what they were signing up for, and accepted the detriment to their families and the hours (which, in the junior years, were way longer when they are now)... because it was not only a vocation, but a stable career for life. And they felt a genuine duty of care to their patients, whom they often put before their own children.  I can only conclude that entry-level junior doctors are more entitled these days. Plus, it's insensitive to nurses, who really do deserve a lot more money and recognition.  There are issues other than pay, like the lack of available posts, and having to move around the country, but they can be improved without a strike.  I don't think the right people are being recruited into the profession anymore. We're all on lower wages and paying more tax than we were ten years ago, but many of us just have to suck it up, work our socks off and get on with it.
    • Beglfire I start, I have a lot of respect for Doctors and owe my life to them after various mishaps over the years.  I am however getting a jaded view of them continuing to run the strike ballot next week in the middle of what is turning into a bad winter for the NHS. Of course they may vote to not strike, but personally feel it is irresponsible timing to consider it as hospitals are already struggling.  Today the BMA warned of scaremongering over the current flu outbreak (BBC News - BMA warns of flu 'scaremongering' ahead of doctor strikes - BBC News https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y22yzl6y6o) but just seeing how many people I know are going down with it, that feels like poor spin by the BMA. How do others feel ?
