A new thread where people say where they were in ED tonight, what bars etc. And rate their experience.

I'll start: Tonight I was out with a mate and in:

The Gowlett from 8.30 - 10.30 then EDT briefly and from 11pm-1am in Franklins.

Gowlett 8/10 - great bar. Had some pizza and real ale. Only spoiled temporarily by the music. The seem to have a do it yourself dj option and some of the 80s revival music chosen was not great.

Franklins. 7/10 hard to rate as late in evening but barman served up until 12 and did a large measure of macallen. Tops.

Were we in the presence of any other forumites?

Felt like jumping off ?

I went to the Rosendale for the first time on Saturday night for a few drinks and dinner and absolutely loved it.

I had the steak and chips which I would score 9/10, best chips I've had in a long time. The service was great, really friendly staff and the atmosphere very relaxed for a Saturday night.

I'll definitely be going back there again.

Oh I appreciate that there's a lot of history behind the place Keef and I remember my dad taking me down there once or twice but since I've grown up and can afford to get legless on my own steam it's just never really appealed to me.

I like to think of myself as an honest realist when confessing my local. It is and probably always will be the Capitol in Forest hill, even though it is a bit pikey.

I agree Keef . Too many many try hards on LL. I spent a new years eve in the cpt a couple of years ago only because it was the only place that didnt need tickets to get in and it was brilliant, lively, comfortable and welcoming . Capitol can be a bit scuzzy but at least it has an unpretentious atmosphere .
The Capitol!!!! Let's face it it's not a pub is it? Jeez what a shithole. I walked in there once and didn't even make it as far as the bar (which is miles away) before I did an about turn and walked out never to return. It's cavernous and has a crappy atmosphere or no atmosphere. Bloody awful. A perfectly good former cinema ruined. Give me a proper pub like the CPT any day.

    • You can get a card at the till, though, to get the discount. You don't have to carry it with you (or load it onto your phone), you can just get a different card each time. Not sure what happens if they notice 🤣
    • Yes..that may be the case but membership STARTING at £115 a month is still unafforable for many. Council gyms also have a large range of equipment and I had a  PT at Dulwich leisure centre when I was in Full Time employment who was incredible and even kept in contact during lockdown giving me a program I could do at home and checking in weekly at no charge or personal gain for herself. I dont doubt that Fit For may be a good gym (Its been in situ long enough so must be doing something right) However the cost of membership means it is affordable for the few not the many. If I could afford that kind of fee I would rather get a train to Canary Wharf and go to Virgin active where theres a pool and incredible classes and facilities
    • This sounds great 👍
    • We found a red TREK bike yesterday that had clearly been stolen and dumped. Would love to reunite it with its owner. Get in touch if you know whose it is.
