Have been meaning to post this up all week to see if anything similar has happened around here to anyone else. I was up early (around 6.45am) on Monday morning thanks to mimi mumra, and as usual went downstairs to catch Balamory. Whilst I was fiddling with the remote control and my daughter was sitting on the sofa I became aware of someone standing in my front garden/yard, no more than a foot away from me. As I turned around in my bay window I saw a person standing on my window sill looking into the house, with a motorbike helmet on. Pretty scary I can tell you, but I think they were equally scared by my morning hair and bed attire as they fell off the window sill, and jumped over the wall where their friend was waiting on a motorbike. They jumped on the back and went. Only caught half the reg so called the police but obviously not much they could do. A neighbour who was up at the same time saw the bike, and thought it looked like 2 teenagers or girls. Probably doing a recky to see if they could break in, but weird nonetheless at this time of day and thought I would see if it had happened to anyone else.

Just behind Goose Green near St John's and St Clements. Hope it was a weird one off. Have to say we have recently had building work done so the house could of looked like it was unhabited/in middle of building work, as run out of money before could do anything to the front. On a motorbike is strange though, if I was paranoid, I would believe a hitman of some kind was after me...!
not that, but a friend of ours had a woman knock on their door in barry road early one morning saying she was pregnant, locked out of her house and needed 50 quid. she said she would call the police for her and the woman left, she was pretty sure she had a cushion or soemthing stuffed up her jumper.
That lady has been a common visitor around ED recently. I know at least 3 people who have had her knocking saying she lived on their road, and is locked out, and we have also had a leaflet from the police warning us of her. Not sure if she is simply pulling a scam or not well, as a friend said she seemed a bit of sorry figure.
Another scammer is the little alcoholic midget woman who occasionally walks in to pubs trying to get people to "sponsor" her for some midget walk or smething, onlt to then go to the nearest offy and spend your money on booze. She caught me out for a fiver once because I was drunk and found the whole thing rather funny... Serves me right I guess :-S
hi all, havent come across any of these people but i got back to the house the other day and we had a note through the door from the neighbourhood watch people saying that there are two people knocking on doors in this area. one is a young twenty something girl pretending that she has been robbed and needs money (as mentioned above). the other is a guy aged around 30 or so who delivers a package that you sign for -although it's wrongly addressed. i didnt understand how this one worked exactly but you're then charged for it and i guess there is nothing in there. so you're warned not to sign for anything that you havent ordered and not to let that woman in, or give her any money. definite scams.

Hi mumra, hope you weren't too shaken up by your mysterious 'visitors'. We live close by so will keep an eye out for any shifty characters.

We have also had a visit from a scam artist (claiming she lived several doors down and her purse had been stolen and she needed money to buy her starving children some food) - probably the same one. Our friends in Barry Road were also hit in a similar fashion - this time v late at night by a woman claiming to be pregnant.

Good to hear that the police are doing something about it - when our friends reported it at ED police station they didnt seem very interested.

Are you maybe thinking about that guy who was being watched by the police even though he hadn't done anything wrong and he didn't have a clue about why they were spying on him? He gave us a bit of a running commentary one day which was rather funny.

oooh don't know. I do know that I had a bit of a panic last night when in bed. There was a strange shadow outside the window and I kept imagining this crash helmet and murky body rising up from the window sill. (I have an overactive imaginiation that annoys the hell out of MrMW74!!)...I did see another yellow board on the way home last night more or less at the bottom of my road, for yet another armed robbery...that's what? the fourth in the area recently??
Looks like she is still on the loose! 5am on Thursday morning we had a visitor (Adys road) saying that she had been locked out and wanted to come in for a cup of tea. We didn't let her in and called the police as we too had received a letter from the police a couple of weeks ago. Looks like we weren't the only ones..... The police were at our house within 10 minutes of us making the call as they were already in the area having had 3 similar calls. Not sure what her idea is if she actually ever gets let in!

    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
    • Having a BBQ (fingers crossed) in 2 weeks and need a small BBQ for veggie bits and any spare benches or garden tables and chairs to borrow to add to mine. Any going? Thanks in advance...
