I could get out the Oxford Shorter. But I can't be bothered.

So here's the Wikipedia entry:

The history was one of domination and rebellion, in case that passed you by.

Oh, I don't know. Spain has the whole of South America to call on.

Russian pikeys? I like the idea.

We actually have a lot of Polish peeps round these parts. Who are all very lovely.

I think the empire will die.

Just wondering about what to call them, in the meantime. To raise a laugh, like. BBW, I expected you to be more on the case here.

Sandperson

That's an arithmetic epic FAIL.

I notice you don't hang out in the Drawing Room. If you did, you might welcome some light relief in the Lounge from time to time.

The cheese-eating surrender monkey meme was massive; why not want to promote equal inventiveness around another target? Had a sense of humour bypass recently?

I don't carry a gun, nor am I overweight, or overbearing for that matter, am rather reserved, perhaps too clever for my own good and do not like burgers (parents were married when I was born incidentally). ;)

But I don't live in the States, thank the Good Lord.

Now that I like, give em a sporting chance.....hmmm an idea for a new spectator sport maybe, see who gets who first, the hunter or the gun toting bear?

Yup, it's when the prayer mats come out that the cat is out of the bag.

As I said early on, kind of, cheese-eating surrender monkey is a characterisation that may or may not have elements of truth. But it's got enough truth (the French are famed for their cheese; the French as a nation do not by and large go to war; but could someone explain the monkey thing to me?), and enough pithy somethingorother to make it really catchy.

So I suppose I'm looking for something that represents the US on the grand scale (something that many people do, something they are famed for producing), plus something that represents the nation/government angle. And perhaps some kind of animal ;-) All rolled into one.

The French not go to war?

Wow that's like saying the pope doesn't wipe his arse in the woods.

And like Brendan says, long been reknowned for their prowess for a very very long time.

But you hide behind one ill thought out strategic defence line......

They're actually pretty good at it too contrary to comon (well not common more like just Anglo Saxon) belief.

You'd have thought the Anglo Saxons would have had pretty good reason to believe the French were quite tasty. What with having had their arse handed to them on a tapestry, and all.

That was very funny Ted.

    • I believe there is a minor injuries department at Guys, though I may have misremembered. Not very convenient for SE22 now the 40 no longer goes near. You have to get 2 buses or a train. Charging people (not sure if you mean financially or legally) would waste a lot more time, I would have thought? And  a bad bruise could be serious, depending on the cause and possibly other symptoms.
    • Good news - parliamentary debate scheduled for 19 January! Dear  Parliament is going to debate the petition you signed – “Limit the sale of fireworks to those running local council approved events only”. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/732559 The debate is scheduled for 19 January 2026. Once the debate has happened, we’ll email you a video and transcript. Thanks, The Petitions Team House of Commons
    • Hey all, A month ago 2 black youths in ski masks/balaclavas on an electric bike tried to rob me where the old Poundland was on Lordship Lane. Last night, what seemed like the same two people tried to rob a Deliveroo driver by The Great Exhibition pub while I walked past. The driver swerved and nearly crashed, and they made off. Not sure what can actually be done about this, and if any residents have spoken to police. I can only implore people not to walk around with noise-cancelling headphones on..because sadly, you will get robbed.
