Can you actually imagine the Dulwich College Estate leasing premises to a 99p Shop? I suppose that the answer to this is (in the words of the motto of Private Eyes' St Cakes School) "quis paget, entrat".

In any case why all the fuss about the closure of Shepherd's? It isn't an independent since it's part of a chain, albeit much smaller of course than Sainsbury's

Even though it was part of Londis, Shepherd's did not feel like a chain - although agree with views that its range of goods were hit and miss. I rarely used it - odd pint of milk and bread, that sort of thing. The deli counter was good when I have used it.

But how this will work as a Sainsburys Local. It seems far too small compared with any Local that I have been in. I guess that once Martin's has been put out of business then they can knock through?

And although I am biting my tongue while I say this, do, do insist that this store fits into the feel of the Village. Please avoid ending up with that disgusting brown and orange logo. The brown is an unpleasant choice, the orange too in your face and the combination unfathomable. If nothing else - that would be a god send. I'm no great eye for design I have to say, but that colour combo certainly manages to look an eyesore anywhere, although marginally better than Poundland. Well maybe not. On reflection, wouldn't they look great sitting next to each other?

Ye Olde Village Tucke Shoppe (sweet shop) was where Romeo Jones is and the barbers was an electrical goods shop called Fordhams.

I live in walking distance to tbe new proposed sainsbury and I do think it's a shame. There is a good sized sainsbury at the top of Lordship Lane, again in walking distance. I just don't feel we need this facility in the village. It will affect the newsagents, it will affect the wine merchant, it may affect the shop opposite if they sell birthday cards for example. It will affect the look of the village and ultimately it doesn't support an independent high street. It's a shame.

I blame DE for putting rents so high it makes it impossible for independents to locate here. Gail's should have been a William Rose but they couldn't afford it, so we got an over prices artisan cafe instead.. Cause we so needed 4 cafes in the village...

Everyone does know the pub is due to open next year? Lots of comments we need a pub.. We do have one its just being refurbished!

Just got the attached in the post. They seem to have made a few minor changes since the previous design.

On a slightly different subject, I notice that Dulwich Audi has close. Is this permanent and if so does anyone know what will replace it?

National 'conversation' responses close 14th Jan.  https://www.specialneedsjungle.com/leaks-denials-fake-conversations-not-inspire-parental-confidence-send/ Closer to home, Councillor Ali has conducted a review of parent and child experiences of exclusions in Southwark and reports back to those who contributed at a dated TBC in January. If it is a date which I can attend then I'll share feedback. If not, is anyone else going who could let me know what is said?
    • I’m not an expert either but surely having that high of affordable housing would seem like a terrible investment. My guess is that they will pay southwark a fine then make the rest of it student housing too
    • For some strange reason, hubby likes to spend 'big' on family cards birthday and Christmas. I think it may have stemmed from his mother- she equated money with status and was a bit of a snob!  She was also quite eccentric - we asked for a suitcase one year and got a set of 4. One year she gave hubby the equivalent of a hearing aid - it was a device to hear bird song. Nobody we know send expensive cards. We have a twice yearly set of cards from the Foot and Mouth Painting Artists and have done for the last 30 plus years. I think they are around £12 for set of 10  - cannot remember what we paid this winter but they are fantastic value and beautiful paintings.  One of the best places around to buy cards is the Fair Trade Centre at Christ Church Barry Road. Fantastic selection with a starting price of £1.30.
