So we have come to that time of year, where we hear Christmas carols all round us, I know not everyone is a fan, however we cant resist having a sing along. So for the sake of conducting an EDF carol service, I would like to know what are your favourite carols. Then the top 5 carols will be sung in the parade on the 19th, even those who dont agree with the parade, take part.

Thanks

Mine are

Once in Royal David City

Oh come all year faithful

Oh little town of Bethlehem

Ave Maria

Away in a manger

Fairytale of New York.

That's a carol to me

2000 Miles

Power of Love

Little Drummer Boy

That's all I know.

Is Ave Maria a Christmas Carol, Monica?? I went to Lourdes in the summer once - they sang it every day - probably practising for Christmas...

NB - I typed the above line and then checked google and it is a Christmas song (apparently) - but being an honest guy I have left my comment there in full expectation of much ridicule. (Still not sure why they were singing Christmas carols in the mid summer in the south of France tho).

Well Mic Mac we can have a go at fairytale but I will need a Sean, maybe not drunk but slightly merry.

Ave Maria is technically a Christmas carol, however I think its recognised generally as a tune for all occasions. I love it because my uncle sings it so well.

Well, I've been to Church Weddings and they've sung it there too (and it wasn't Christmas)...and at funerals! So I don't know!

Understand the relevance of 5 carols to the parade, but surely if it's a Hit Parade of carols it has to be 9?

I'm very fond of In Dulce Jubilo and O Holy Night, as well as all the rafter-shakers like Hark the Herald.

We're rehearsing an extract from Bach's Christmas Oratorio in choir at the moment, and it's just beautiful. Bloody hard, but so lovely.

Ave Maria is just the Hail Mary in Latin.

The clue's in the name.

Fairy tale of New York If you look at the two artists and the lyrics it shouldn't work, but it does and its beautiful.

Last Cristmas - Wham sorry but I like it !

White Christmas - Otis Redding

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Frank Sinatra

I'll Be Home For Christmas - Diana Krall

And anything by Nat King Cole

    • You can get a card at the till, though, to get the discount. You don't have to carry it with you (or load it onto your phone), you can just get a different card each time. Not sure what happens if they notice 🤣
    • Yes..that may be the case but membership STARTING at £115 a month is still unafforable for many. Council gyms also have a large range of equipment and I had a  PT at Dulwich leisure centre when I was in Full Time employment who was incredible and even kept in contact during lockdown giving me a program I could do at home and checking in weekly at no charge or personal gain for herself. I dont doubt that Fit For may be a good gym (Its been in situ long enough so must be doing something right) However the cost of membership means it is affordable for the few not the many. If I could afford that kind of fee I would rather get a train to Canary Wharf and go to Virgin active where theres a pool and incredible classes and facilities
