There seems to have been an increase in crime in Dulwich lately, with robberies by East Dulwich Station and on Lordship lane as well as by Red Post Hill estate, i think a lot of it is by youths passing through the area probably from Peckham and Camberwell.

It seems however that not everyone is reporting these to the police so the actual numbers are unknown.

If some scumbag wants to rob you of your belongings either resist as long as you are not harmed but if they are violent it would be best to give them what they are after, But make sure you report it too the police otherwise how else are they going to have a chance to catch the scum.

Most of these robberies are committed by youths on bikes wearing hoods i would suggest if anyone see's any one matching this description and acting suspiciously then call the police or the local SNT.

Do not be afraid to report it the police would probably welcome any info they can get, thats the main problem with society now is that people don't report things or help other people in incidents like muggings as they are afraid they would get hurt. I have got involved many a time to help people as i was raised by my parents to respect other people and stand up for what is right and denounce what is wrong and what i have noticed is that the majority of these robbers are gutless cowards who will run away if confronted, they are only brave if they are in a large gang catch them by themselves and they are pathetic little fools.

I don''t think the official advice would be to "resist as long as you are not harmed". Give it up, it's just not worth it, although I don't think you can plan how you'd react to such things. I don't think ED is getting less safe, crime has peaks and troughs and it's nearing christmas, we're in recession and it's getting darker which must all be factors.

If your first post was serious (and I suspect that it's not) then it's based mostly

on anecdotal evidence about the rise in muggings in SE22,

committed by thugs from out of town, the claim that people aren't reporting crime anymore plus advice on how to be a vigilante.

So forgive me if I didn't take it seriously, but these things often pop up on tinternet are to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Agree completely.. Anecdote is not data, and so on.

I guess most do not think giving the police any input is of use, so they don't bother but I agree with your post if you do not report it then the thieving creeps will certainly go unpunished.

It is difficult to get descriptions of the perpetrators out of the victims, and has been seen on this forum by some users as racist if you name the colour of the attacker.

If the attacker is blonde and you state that, then that is okay, but if you state they were 5 black youths it frequently creates arguments to say so.

My post is serious i don't know why you would think its not, and its actually based on fact.

Please attend Police meetings, Community Council Meetings, Tra Meetings or even read a newspaper, or even speak to other agencies involved in policing.

Dulwich is still quite safe and yes there are scum here who rob other people in Dulwich but the majority of robbers come from other areas Peckham and Camberwell, it is well known and obvious.

Speak to youth in those areas and ask them where the robbers go to "tax" people it might enlighten you.

I am a firm believer in corrective justice and hate all Political Correctness rubbish which has helped to destroy the once firm values and moral spirit this country had.

Succesively weak goverments have made the UK a laughing stock when it comes to policing, and other matters, bring back capital punishment.

To be fair though he did say ring the police if they were acting suspiciously not just because they're wearing hoodies. What evidence is there that people don't report being mugged? If I was mugged I'd certainly call the police and I think most people do/would.

I often see my next-door neighbour putting a dark hoodie and running shoes on and slipping out into the night.

Usually see him running around the Rye, probably sprinting away from his latest burglary.

I'll be calling the boys in blue forthwith.

People are not reading my posts properly call police if people are seen to be acting suspiciously, not if they are just wearing hoods.

The hood is a item of fashion but criminals use it as a tool as it hides the features obviously.

As for the comment on skateboarding-funny but totally irrelevant.

Burglaries I can understand, but muggings I don't see why they would bother when they're are areas within camberwell and peckham that would be just as good for mugging someone. I'm not saying that all muggings are committed by east dulwich only residents but I think some are but I also have no facts and am also just speculating. There are bad apples everywhere not just in peckham and camberwell.

So "i think a lot of it is by youths passing through the area probably from Peckham and Camberwell" is a fact? No, it tells us all about you.

"It seems however that not everyone is reporting these to the police so the actual numbers are unknown".

If the numbers are unknown how can you know there's a rise?

"Most of these robberies are committed by youths on bikes wearing hoods i would suggest if anyone see's any one matching this description and acting suspiciously then call the police or the local SNT"

How do you know 'most' of the robberies are thus committed?

Please don't imagine we don't care.

But you don't write factually; you write with a large dose of attitude and bias, and we don't like that.

Racism is easily tossed around this forum and its sometimes the nuclear option to kill a discussion. Sadly, it has become a 21st Century Godwin law 2.0 update in some cases - this does not maen that all threads that touch on racism are thus null and void or baseless - Guardian readers are more than willing to add the racist tag as a knee jerk, I find, but it can devalue a discussion if used too often & inappropriately.

I am more disturbed by the words that are NOT used when people make a point, than the words that are being used - the inference is subtle, but there.Outside this forum, I'm not alone in thinking this - despite not commenting earlier.

    • Hi - I posted a request for some help with a stuck door and possible leaky roof. I had responses from Lukasz at Look_as.com and Pawel at Sublime Builders. I don't see any/many reviews - has anyone used either person?  Could use a recommendation rather then just being contact by the tradespeople... Many Thanks
    • I'm a bit worried by your sudden involvement on this Forum.  The former Prince Andrew is now Andrew Mountbatten Windsor Mountbatten in an anglicisation of Von Battenburg adopted by that branch of our Royal Family in 1917 due to anti-German sentiment. Another anglicisation could be simply Battenburg as in the checker board cake.  So I surmise that your are Andrew Battenburg, aka Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and that you have infiltrated social media so that the country can put the emphasis on Mandelson rather than yourself.  Bit of a failure. I don't expect an answer from police custody.
    • We had John fit our PLYKEA kitchen (IKEA cabinets with custom doors) and would happily recommend him and Gabi to anyone. Gabi handled all communication and was brilliant throughout — responsive and happy to answer questions however detailed. John is meticulous, cares about the small details, and was a pleasure to have in the house. The carpentry required for the custom doors was done to a high standard, and he even refinished the plumbing under the sink to sit better with the new cabinets — a small touch that made a real difference. They were happy to return and tie up a few things that couldn't be finished in the time, which we appreciated. No hesitations recommending them.
    • Not sure about that. Rockets seems to have (rightly in my view) identified two key motivating elements in Mcash's defection: anger at his previous (arguably shabby) treatment and a (linked) desire to trash the Labour party, nationally and locally. The defection, timed for maximum damage, combined with the invective and moral exhibitionism of his statement counts as rather more than a "hissy fit".  I would add a third motivation of political ambition: it's not inconceivable that he has his eye on the Dulwich & West Norwood seat which is predicted to go Green.  James Barber was indulging in typical LibDem sleight of hand, claiming that Blair introduced austerity to *councils* before the coalition. This is a kind of sixth form debating point. From 1997-1999 Labour broadly stuck to Tory spending totals, meaning there was limited growth in departmental spending, including local govt grants. However local government funding rose substantially in the Noughties, especially in education and social care. It is a matter of record that real-terms local authority spending increased in the Blair / Brown years overall. So he's manifestly wrong (or only right if the focus is on 1997-1999, which would be a bizarre focus and one he didn't include in his claim) but he wasn't claiming Blair introduced austerity more widely.
