In all fairness the people running the White Horse have been in the area for a while, and the old owners wanted to get out. Better the Monty people take it over than it get converted into flats or taken over by an identi-kit operation like Greene King or Fullers?

The Castle does a good pint of Guinness.Not as good as Franklins though.


And the White Horse has in my opinion had a very sensitive makeover which has kept much of the feel of how it was before.


I've only eaten there once since the refurb, but I thought the food was excellent and cheaper than you'd pay in ED.

I went last nite and stuffed my face, and if that's the kind of antics that you like to get up to in a place, then I suggest you go.


Their Chilli fries would cure most hangovers I reckon

I have had mixed reviews about Byron, some very good.. some not so good.. ?


I tend not to eat Burgers out because I do not want ..Cheese...Bacon... Tomato... Pickles..

The price is the same if you ask for a Burger without all the above..

..but you will still get charged a ?1.00 for any extra that you may desire (Egg) ??

Good on you Lou, I've enjoyed Byron at times


Last nite was a family invite thing that Scott threw for locals, hence lots of youngsters, and they loved it. I went solo but knew most of the people there.


It's pretty noisy, but that's the whole Meat Liquor vibe. But it is friendly to all, if you can take the place for what it is.


I like the details, like cold glasses for cold beer. The food comes on trays and is joyfully messy, but if you don't like that sort of thing, try elsewhere.

Sue.. My reference to Byron was in response to Mick Mac.. Not to be confused with Big Mac.


My reference to Burgers and extras was a general one .. places like the EDT.

and was not related to either Byron or MEATliquor.

I already have a copy of the original draft of the Menu of M.L.


I don't think MEATliquor in any way is targeting people above 45 and probably a lot younger.

American Diners and the like have never been my style. even I was 19.


But It will do well. All thing that Scott gets involved with does well. He has a good team.

Popped in to meet the wife and her mate last night - very buzzy atmosphere. I don't think its designed for people to spend an evening there,in fact they probably rely on high turnover of tables. That being said we weren't rushed at all and actually encouraged to take our time.


The monkey fingers are a chicken sized piece of heaven and the burgers are amongst the best I've tried - will definitely be back!

We went to Meat Liquor late on Saturday afternoon, for a very late lunch.


It was very busy even though it was after 4pm.


The burgers were excellent, definitely the best we've had in East Dulwich, as were the fries and beer, though ?4.50 for a small can was a bit of a shock. Don't usually drink craft beer from cans so not sure whether this is the going price or not.


The service was good and very friendly, and we got to sit in the window (though sadly it wasn't open that afternoon) as at John the Unicorn.


We really enjoyed the music too.


We'll be back, looking forward to working our way through the menu (and possibly the beer ....).

      Surely the question is whether James Mcash is effective in his various roles? I've seen nothing to suggest otherwise as a GG councillor or cabinet member. No idea about the teaching but he's made a career of it, so one would think he's perfectly fine on that front too. What I do object to is him being elected under one banner and hopping under another one, I suspect out of naked self interest. His headline rationale for the move is scarcely credible. He claims "the council was “planning for funding gaps larger than those faced in almost every year of Conservative and Liberal Democrat austerity, this time imposed by a Labour government...Unless something changes, Labour cuts will devastate the local services that as residents of this fantastic borough, we all rely on.” But what he's actually talking about here is the new Fair Funding Review, undertaken by notorious Tories Angela Rayner and Jim McMahon.   https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/the-fair-funding-review-20/the-fair-funding-review-20 The Fair Funding Review is explicitly about the redistribution of resources based on updated needs assessment, which, last time I looked was a key tenet of the left (including the Greens). Mcash also claims Southwark "cannot and does not stand up the the government" but that simply isn't the case as Southwark, Lambeth and London Councils have objected to the FFR because it fails to take into account Londoners' high housing costs. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/news/2025/southwark-and-lambeth-leaders-call-fair-funding  He seems high on bluster and low on actual detail. And the great problem Greens have to overcome, like everyone else, is that the country has no money.
