I was wondering if anybody knew why the TFL website is telling me that the best way to get to Clapham Common tonight is to get the 185 to Oval and then take the tube? Do the current roadworks in Brixton make the 37 a slower option at the moment?

I'm in NCR and I need to get to Clapham Common for 7pm tonight.

Thanks folks!

roadworks are one factor but rushhour around Brixton and Clapham generally tend to be nightmarish

I'm a big bus advocate but at that time of night I would skip the bus too. And overground train to Clapham High St takes about 10 minutes well. i haven't used it for a while so double check...

I've also noticed TfL never suggest using the 37, more so than other odd suggestions it sometimes gives. If I know a route that I trust I just use that and ignore TfL, it's only useful for destinations you're unfamiliar with and even then you have to go through the hassle of pointing out that you can walk faster than a snail and would rather not pay for 3 buses plus a train!

Or just cycle, http://london.cyclestreets.net is a much better journey planner for us two-wheeled folk.

I've just tried it on East Dulwich Grove to the Green Man, Putney (the 37 terminus).

The direct route, nominal 50 minutes, was the third offered. Next best was twice the time. But the commentary did warn of possible severe delays due to both gas and water main roadworks.

At its best, very early morning, it can be a nice 35 minute journey

    • I went in here the other day. The fruit is all really good - ripe and fresh. They also sell good bread (and croissants and pastries) from a independent bakery, the name of which I've forgotten. 🤦 The prices (which are marked) are not cheap but they are fair imo. Comparable to the specialist fruit shop on Lordship Lane (Brothers?) for really good quality. It's similar prices to Simply Fresh - but Simply Fresh's fruit and veg is very poor. Beaten about and tasteless. Sainsbury's is certainly cheaper. IMVHO they're a good addition to the Dulwich Village "retail offer".
