Another recommendation for Alan (All Locked Out). I rang him with a problem with my front door lock and he talked me through fixing it without needing a locksmith. The next day he called to say he was near me and would I like him to pop round to give me a hand, no charge. Really lovely man and knows his stuff. 07870 199 771.

I just wanted to add my recommendation to what ruffers has said above. Alan was great, turned up as promised etc, but he also made sure I had a way to get in and out of the house when he needed to go and get a part, and that I was comfortable and safe in the house on my own, despite the broken door. Noticed and appreciated.

I would also like to highly recommend Alan. He is a lovely guy and did an excellent job; managed to fix the lock without having to fit a new one and was honest and upfront about everything. Really good value and I will definitely use him again for any lock related problems!

Thanks Alan!

Adding to the long list of recommendations for Alan.

My locks needed changing over a week ago after daughter's bag was stolen; he was on holiday - Because of the high praise here on the EDF I chose to await his return. (He did try to give me details of locksmiths who were available during his absence). Definitely worth waiting for. Supremely efficient, friendly, kept me informed of all stages and the bill at the end was considerably lower than I anticipated. Would use again and recommend without hesitation.

I'm also adding to the long list of satisfied customers. After calling this morning, Alan came round - despite having other jobs away from the area - this afternoon to change my Yale and deadlock. He tried a repair before replacing the deadlock and stayed quite some time to make sure the job was all done properly. Friendly, efficient and the bill was lower than anticipated. Highly recommended

Alan came round to replace our rather flimsy Yale lock today and, as affirmed by many reviews on the forum, he is genuinely wonderful. He gave good advice, was friendly, professional and honest. Really couldn't ask for more. Thank you, Alan.

Ok - wow! I have to agree with eveyone above and thank you all for your recommendation.

I just checked out the forum about 2 hours ago as my lock was not working, called Alan (07870 199 771), texted him a picture of the lock, got a quote immediately, and he was here within 30 minutes and replaced the lock just 5 minutes ago. Great guy, and great service. Definitely recommend to anyone.

Apparently he covers all of London, not just East Dulwich.

I'd like to add my recommendation too. A superb locksmith. Alan was very helpful, friendly and efficient. He came today 5/12/2014 and did a fantastic job. He was very reasonable. I agree with all the previous messages. Thanks Alan and thank you East Dulwich Forum. He is also on Check A trade.

Another recommendation from us. We had a few locks that weren't installed properly and we wanted sorted before we went away for Xmas. Alan came around the next day, sorted out the locks and even planed our gate as it wouldn't open properly to the weather.

Nice, trustworthy bloke with very reasonable pricing.

We can also report a superb service for the locks Alan installed for our beer shop. We called him thanks to the recommendations for him on this forum and were not disappointed - lovely chap, prompt service and good prices. Top bloke!

Another recommendation for Alan

Needed lock on bathroom UPVC window fixed

Super prompt, efficient and friendly. He even threw in a free handle as the screw cappings were missing from mine.

Highly recommend and would call him again without hesitation if any similar work needed.

Well done Alan and thanks a lot.

I'd also like to recommend Alan. I tried using Which? Local to find someone but found the recommendations to be out of date, and the coverage for SE London wasn't great. EDF isn't always perfect for recommendations, but I found Alan's details on here and was very pleased.

He changed both front door locks after I had recently moved. He pointed out, very helpfully, that neither lock was "British standard" and therefore the average contents insurance policy would be void for me or any of my neighbours. He was very keen to point out he wasn't up-selling and offered to check my insurance policy, but I completely trust that he was telling the truth. He suggested the cheapest/ best way for me to meet insurance standards.

Once he had the lock he came back, agreed a price up front, stuck to it, did the work efficiently and cleaned up after himself. Also a really nice guy.

Another shout-out for Alan from All Locked Out (07870 199 771). He turned up promptly in an emergency, installed new locks perfectly, and also provided some very helpful general advice on locks and home security, all at a reasonable price. What an expert and real professional. I can't recommend him highly enough.

    • Hey there,   This is Suzanne from The Neighbourhood Vet.   I am writing on this forum - as a first and last time - to ask people to think about the level of criticism of vets that’s happening, especially recently, and ask if you think is really ok?    I established the practice 12 years ago with Amber and we joined a corporate called IVC Evidensia in 2019. Amber went back to Australia and Simon joined me as co-Clinical Director in 2020. We now have 70 employees across 3 sites and I think we have a pretty amazing and special practice.    The upset caused by the criticism of vet practices is not just about The Neighbourhood Vet and our staff. We get equally affected when we hear people saying bad things about Ms Robson’s practice, DNA pet care practices (Peckham/ Mayow Rd/ Parish Lane/ Streatham etc), Medivet practices (Lordship Lane, Camberwell, New Cross, Beckenham etc) or other IVC practices (Norwood Rd, Paxtons, Easipetcare).    All vet practices are a business and have to make a profit otherwise they will not survive. Just because we happen to be a place that cares for your pets, it doesn’t mean we can do this for free. Not a single person I know who works in the vet profession, chose to do so for the money, rather it is because we love animals, and continue to do our best for them every day, even whilst hearing the most terrible things said about us.   I personally have been criticised for selling to a corporate rather than staying independent but until you have dealt with the pressure (financial and otherwise) of running a business that cares for pets (which seems to be the most emotive topic for people) then I’d ask you be respectful of my decision.  The corporate practices are the obvious target in any criticism of vet practices - we do not always get things right, and there is always room for improvement but we are all working for the common goal which is to look after your pets.   None of our vets work on commission or get any performance-based bonus. None of our staff have financial targets that they are expected to achieve.  Different practices do different things and charge differently as do other businesses that provide similar services - think M&S vs Sainsbury’s vs Lidl vs a corner shop vs Waitrose. You do not expect to pay the same at these places so I am not sure why people think that vets should price-match and all charge exactly the same?    If you decide that you are not happy with something (our staff/ practices/ cost of medication/ receptionists/ cost of prescriptions/ way of working/ vets etc etc etc), then we would encourage you to discuss this with us. On any given day we can have a multitude of complaints from prescription charges to having to wait for 10 minutes because of an emergency to our consult prices on a weekend to the receptionist not being sufficiently friendly, and this all takes time away from caring for you and your pet.  If you genuinely think it will make you feel better to write something bad or that you are providing a service to others with your criticism, then of course you can do that, but please refrain from spreading inaccurate information or making bold assumptions about our Vets and staff.    We do not respond on socials because do not want to give air to toxicity, however, most of our staff (and others in the vet profession) would know about the things written about them. Vets have the highest suicide rate of any profession and the mental health of many in the vet profession is easily eroded by social media. So before you feel the need to tear someone down, perhaps think instead that it might be better to be kind. It would make the world a much nicer place.      Suzanne   Dr Suzanne McNabb BSc BVSc MACVSc MSc MVS MRCVS She/Her Clinical Director The Neighbourhood Vet 66 Lordship Lane East Dulwich SE22 8HJ
    • Thanks for the recommendations. I've not been there, but will give it a go

    • Sadiq Khan has pledged to help make London the "best city in the world to grow up in". Mr Khan said he plans to: Provide free skills training for unemployed or low-income Londoners Create more than 150,000 new jobs by 2028 Fund more youth clubs with a £30m investment Make free school meals permanent in London's state primary schools Keep Transport for London fares frozen until at least 2025 and never introduce a pay-per-mile road charging scheme End rough sleeping by 2030 with government support  Build 40,000 new council homes by 2030 and to build new "rent control" homes  On policing, he said he wants to put 1,300 more police on the streets, tackle violence against women and girls and deliver free legal support for victims. He also promises a fully zero-emission bus fleet by 2030 and to clean up the Thames, planning to make it swimmable within 10 years. Source BBC News - Sadiq Khan pledges to help make London the 'best city in the world' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-68968813   All great pledges but so many questions.  1. Where will the extra money come from to deliver all this ?  2. In times when police are leaving in ever decreasing numbers and recruitment is hard, how will he put more police on the streets ?  3. Rough sleeping, no matter what is done, some still choose that way of life, so what's his plan in that case ?  4. How will he directly create new jobs ?  A lot of political hot air and personally I want to revisit what he actually achieves in 4 years to see if there was a justification in a third term.
