Fair play Ted. I don't think opinion on here or anywhere else has made a difference. He is a funny chap (in my opinion). A bunch of us used to go in there all the time a few years back. We spend A LOT of money in there, we danced, we had a laugh, but he and one or 2 of his bouncers were just really unfriendly and rude. In the end it got to much and we all stopped going, I don't think we are alone, as it used to be packed, now it is dead. Good luck to him though, he obviously knows best.

Just remembered another one, which a google search has revealed is still going Whirl-Y-Gig When I used to go (approx 93) it was a bizarre night. It was unlisensed, but you could take drink in. Everyone was on a real mix of drugs from smoke to pills, to acid, it was dancing all night, but the thing it was known for was the "parachute dance"at the end, where everyone would sit / lie on the floor, and a huge parachute would be held over them, with everyone round the edges waving it up and down. Ambient music would be played, whilst a light show would be projected on to the parachute whilst you were undernieth it tripping off your nut! Happy Days indeed >:D<

I'm away 26th, so my vote goes for 19th.

I did ask the Vale myself about CCTV, and was told that they had recorded over it. This was on the Monday morning, the event having happened on Friday night. Like I said before, I never blamed the Vale for my coat going missing, if anything, it was my fault for leaving it for a couple of minutes (although I did think friends were watching it). The response of one man after the event is my issue. As for harming a local business, I gave that business a lot of bloody money a few years ago. In my opinion, they have done nothing but harm themselves, as they don't appear to want anyone in there.

Never been a huge fan of the venue, but being that it's on the 4th I will be around, so will most likely make the effort to get along for a bit.

I have tried referring to Sean by his real name, and everybody looked at me blankly, so he is now just Sean. If I ever hear anyone putting a "th" on the end of my name though, I will kick off big time! No one must know who I really am! :-S

That is better, I think from now on (meaning in to next year) there should be no debate, and it should just be first Friday. Some people will miss out on some, but you're never going to please everyone.

I was never a massive clubber (in the sense of getting pilled up and reaching for the lasers), I could usually be found in dirty grungey rock clubs / bars. However, as a 16/17 year old I did the whole Ministry thing a few times, and in Liverpool I did Cream a few times. Both were shite beyond belief! 18 - 23 I was in Liverpool, and really it's not a major clubby place, it's more about bar crawls in the city centre (or it was 96 - 01). Did lots of other places, but couldn't tell you the names, and like I say, it wasn't really my scene... Maybe if I'd been 5 years older ;-)
-
Hurrah!!!!!!!!! :)-D For the record, I wouldn't do the big one without eating all day, I'd have a dirty big fry up before hand, but once you start drinking it's liquids only!

Hmm, not sure doing them over the one weekend is the best idea you've ever had... Well I am up for joining Huguenot for "The Eliminator" on the 17th August, but I thought we'd be doing this before then anyway... Also agree it would be nice to select a few pubs and take a bit more time over it.
-
Yes it's series 1 when they visit the window tapping place isn't it? (trying not to give things away)
-
I guess they only keep it it there is a big fight, or if they get robbed... No point keeping it otherwise, as nothing gets stolen from his bar! Obviously :-S Shame, as the place isn't all bad, and I really like the outside area.

Just to avoid any returned emails, the address should be [email protected] (there is a space missing above). God they are gagging for some complaints aren't they! -

The people who work at Grace & Favour are fab

I know Rosie quite well, so I am biased, but I think she is a lovely lady, and very nice to people. I don't exactly shop in these types of places, but I went in there to buy a birthday gift for a female friend, and she really helped (me being a tad rubbish at this type of thing). With regards the prices, I wouldn't pay a fiver for a bar of soap, but I wouldn't moan about it either, if there are people who will, then good for them, and good for the shop for supplying it, and making a profit. Besides, what is business about? Know your customers and give them what they want. They are obviously doing that, because they are still open. I went to Rye for a weekend last year, and walked in to a similar style of shop, and they had soap for A LOT more than that, so it's not exclusive to Dulwich! -
Going back to the evil MacDonald's tempting our kids with toys and then selling them food that is bad for them... How are they really different from any other big business? Spending your whole life playing video games (much as I like them) is bad for a kid, and yet the games are designed to be addictive to kids. All the adverts on tv for toys and ringtones, and all that are aimed directly at kids. MacDonald's are not innocent of it, but they are by no means alone! Chav I see your point, but again to aim it directly at MacDonald's is unfair. People in other countries suffer for food and drink we buy in supermarkets, clothes we wear, toys kids play with, and any number of things that are part of our everyday lives. It is crap, and we should be aware and try to make a difference and all that, but we can't lay the blame at the door of one big franchise. Have to say, Maccy D's is THE WORST thing to have with a hangover!!!

Just bringing this back up, as a bit annoyed. I want to start by saying that when posting this, I had no issue with The Vale, and wasn't trying to blame them for the loss of my coat. I called them and popped in, and they were nice. However, as I lost my freedom pass, I had to report it to the police in order to get a reference number to get it replaced. On Tuesday I got a call from a police officer who said he'd called The Vale to ask about CCTV, and was told that "things don't get stolen from this bar!". The police officer suggested that things can get stolen from ther Ritz, and it makes no difference where you are, only for the manager to repeat "things don't get stolen from my bar". He then said the CCTV was recorded over every day, and that was that. I really don't understand that guy, and I don't care if I'm having a go on the internet. The Police Officer said the guy couldn't have been more unhelpful, and was obviously defensive the second he said he was the police. No one ever accused the vale of nicking my coat, but why be such a feckin prick!

I'll nick my mum's.
