I'm seriously thinking of not sending cards this year because of the amount of paper wasted. I hate throwing them away, even if they do get recycled, it just seems such a waste. Am I just a killjoy?

How much did u pay for it? Is it still ?40-50?

My son-in-law is handy at making stuff. He works as a builder. I'm sure he could make a shed for you. He charges about ?80-90 per day for labour so you would have to work out how much the wood would cost and see if it's worth it. His name is Kevin and his number is: 07944 446 567. -
I always thought she wanted to be invisible or a ghost or something and thought she was just harmlessly nuts. That's a horrible story. I hope she is ok.

"Janet Street Porter - not of course for the looks" - glad you made that one clear! And i think Mark should be played by John Malkovich. That's about as inspired as I get tho.

Ok it went something like this. I won with 2500 votes, oops no that was my dream last night. Oh yeh I remember, the Lib Dems got about 1200 votes, Labour about 600, Conservatives 260 I think, Greens (me!) got 122 and UKIP got 49. The turnout was 25% which is only 1% less than the full council elections and is apparently a good turnout. The Lib Dems and Labour fought really hard for this ward so getting 122 for us underfunded, understaffed Greens wasn't too bad! It was all quite exciting being at the count. I missed it last time because I had exams, so it was nice to get to see democracy in action. Pity the Lib Dem coalition still has the balance of power in the council, it would have been nice for them to have lost it, because I would love to see someone be able to challenge them. Lets see if they have any defections! Anyway, I'm sure we'll be doing battle again sometime in the future. Goodnight peeps.

"CHAV, it wasn't me that said Kathy Burke (although I love her). This started on a different thread, so I just moved it over here.I'd actually put you as a cross between Billy Bragg, Liam Gallagher and Geri Halliwell " - Haha that's better! Actually Kathy Burke is a great actress, but please tell me I look better than she does!

Does any one want to join the Green Party and maybe stand in their area in the future? I'm Southwark Green Party membership secretary and convenor so I'll get you signed up and doing useful stuff straight away if you PM me. We also have a supporters e-list if anyone wants to go on that and you don't have to be a member for that.

Charlie - you said " Amanda, your first post said "I think all drugs should be legalised". " but you forgot to include "with some form of licensing" so I would now like you to point out where I deviated from this opinion please seeing as how you have said on more than one occasion that I have changed my mind and I am confused as to how you could have reached that conclusion!

"74,593 people visited this site" was that individuals or total visits? It must be total individuals I suppose. -
Charlie - are you not playing anymore?

The count starts at 10 and we should get the result around midnight. I'll post the results as soon as I get to a computer if anyone is interested.

The Limericks are brilliant, but the jokes kill me. I love it when the little red 'new' comes up by the jokes. You are a funny lot! -
I think this has been an interesting election. Greens came in 4th last time, so I'll be dying to see what all the 'unusual' publicity has done for our position!

"I love the way you have changed your stance on this thread Amanda" in what way? I have had the same stance from the start i.e prohibition doesn't work, we need to look for alternatives eg legalisation/licensing and improve rehab and health access and outreach. I think you need to cut down on whatever it is you are smoking! I was on the Chaucer safer neighbourhood panel and the police hated arresting substance abusers and rough sleepers and had been implementing an unofficial policy of moving them on but putting them in touch with relevant charities and other agencies. they got flack for this off other panel members who wanted them to be 'tough' so I backed the local police's policy and it ended up being endorsed by the panel. I also took this to the new Borough Commander when he had his community meeting on our Estate. I also used to bring up the inadequacy of rehab places at community council meetings every time the councillors brought up 'cleaning' up the streets. I am still in regular (supportive) contact with people using drug addiction services and although they have stopped some of the appalling practices in the past, such as withholding methadone from addicts who test positive for drugs (er what are they there in the first place for??), there are still long waiting lists and even if you are arrested and go on a priority waiting list, it still takes over a month to get an assessment. Have I explained that adequately for you and am I qualified enough for you, Charlie? But what exactly is your stance as you seem to be all over the place?

I picture her as having about 3 teeth in her head!
-
Or it could be said that some people believe this to be true but others don't.
-
I don't think anyone would advocate drug addiction as being a positive thing and I think more than looking at which drugs are worse than others, we need to look at whether the current policy is actually doing what it was implemented for over 30 years ago and if not what we can do to make things better for addicts and the wider community.

Kathy Burke? Thanks a lot Keef!

There has been a lot on the news recently about some schools opting not to do a nativity play, so I thought I'd raise this topical subject with my favourite on-line community. Is it something that should be phased out so as not to offend people of other or no religion? Or should there be room for this Christian tradition alongside traditional celebrations from other religions? I am a Christian and I prefer the second option and remember my kids making Divali lights in school and fasting for a few days with their Muslim friends so do not see why we can't all embrace each other's religious traditions without getting our knickers in a twist!
