  1. And BN5, nooooooooo hang on to them. Compressed formats still sound terrible, so unless you're ripping them to genuinely lossless format at 50 odd mb a track then don't get rid of the originals. Mind you I'm genuinely thinking about going all vinyly again, that's where the good sound is at and like quids, all you have to worry about is mildew.
  2. Poor muse!! Muley, depends entirely on the terms of service. Flickr is much better in that you can actaully specify the licence using Creative Commons. I tend to allow non-commercial usage as long as whoever says it was me, and I've sold a dew for commercial usage via flickr. I wouldn't be making a living out o it mind, but you don't even get to say they're yours if facebook company sells them on. In short, read the small print.
  3. Sorry Smg, wasn't aimed at anyone at all. I might start a campaign forthe return of second person plural 'ye'. Disaster as quids point out is unavoidable when it happens regardless of medium, but there are very valid points about ownership, privacy and security when it comes to 'clouds'. As for who pays? Who indeed, I guess advertisrrs was one thought but the bottom looks set to fall out of that Market, hence google's move towards software and operating systems. Don't expect to be getting google earth for free forever! Ultimately it'll be down to the consumer to pay. Frankly I think it's crazy O2 giving me unlimited data for nowt, I'd be happy to pay a fair coin, though ?3 mb on roaming may be pushing the boundaries of fair just a tad. Emails too will eventually cease to be free and I for one will be happy to pay a monthly fee to see a vast reduction I'm spam!
  4. I'll get you next time Penelope pitstop. How you knew fiddy cent's real name I don't want to know
  5. All my iPod stuff is ripped from my own CDs to MP3 at max frequency/bit rate. Photos are all on an external hard drive that bit by bit backing up to DVD. I've only bought about 2 songs from iTunes. For starters I want all the soft copies of music to be completely transferrable to any environment and secondly the sound quality from downloads is truly dreadful, it sounds like it's being played on a paper and comb. My MP3s are far from perfect but at least they have a bit of life about them. There's a chap here who thinks the cloud is the future of all technolfy, that we no longer need to think about implementation just the APIs for the middle tier. But it's nonsense, Reading an article yesterday about azure (microsofts cloud implementaton) and SDS and it soon becomes obvious that the cloud isn't some distributed computing miracle but huge infrastructure owned by the likes of Microsoft, google and errrrr that's it. Are you happy for them to own everything? (did you know that any photo uploaded to facebook becomes the intellectual property of Facebook Inc, it's there in the terms) god I'm boring
  6. Im inclined to agree that convergence is not only a pipe dream but pointless, just think back to those clock radio tv videos that made a bad cuppa tea. So iPhone, iPod (Sony thingy died) canon camera and laptop. Doesn't stop it from being funky, but the open sourcing the ability to proram app for the thing, therein lay their stroke of genius and, so far, it's usp. Talking of which, downloaded the battery life thing. At 70% battery it had about 240 hours standby time, 8 hours ipodding and 3 hours of t'interweb.
  7. Is this mac snobbery I'm detecting there silverfox ;-P
  8. Enjoying a bit of Hold Steady, sort of the Simpsons to Springsteen's Waltons.
  9. Fair enough. I keep iPod duties to the iPod. 120gb plus it actuall does last about 42 hours play time, which is pretty amazing for a non solid state machine!!
  10. BBW posted that on his diamond studded iPhone 4GTi as donated to him by Steve Jobs. It's specially designed to respond to the cold touch of a lizard. Also just wondering DC, why the jealousy. Post OS upgrade there's not apotheosis in it if you don't care about video. *edit - apotheosis, nice, but iPhone bigging itself up. Was meant to be 'a lot in it'*
  11. You just have to learn coping strategies moo, I'd go for it. As dc says, for the 'where am i' map alone it is priceless
  12. If I do a lot of Internet I'm lucky to get four hours out of it frankly. It does recharge quickly though. Might investigate as to whether mine specifically has a d?ff battery. Polarize is a nice little app for making the photos from the poor camera look much better
  13. Sorry, expressing surprise in an early nineties style at MM getting an iPhone. iPhone is very good notwithstanding continued battery frustrations.
  14. Genius Kel. Here's hoping for twins now!! Sorry HB, hadn't spotted the beard incident, sorry I ever doubted you ;)
  15. No way. And have you tried writing marmots I mean marmora yet?
  16. Are you feeling ok HB? I for one intend to go for straight gin rather than formula for the newborn.
  17. mercury music nominees mmm nominated. Any thoughts? Not exactly a vintage year admittedly, but generally o the opinion that UK has been a bit weak for a few years now. Some great small labels here scouring the world for original talent, but it's Ll got a bit stagnant here of late. Still that Lisa Hannigan is very listenable in a coffee table sort of way. Anyone who should be on there who isn't (nope Simple Minds is a big no no)?
  18. yeah, cat fight was great, was a good moment of comic relief too. I'm sure it was meant to be a woman of dignity dragging herself down to that level, but the wife and I just burst out laughing at the flappity slapping...class!!!
  19. Yeah caught it last week, was good again this week. Observer review had it about right. In another writers hands and with lesser casts these tales would probably veer into sentimentality & schmaltz. But they manage to stay well away from that and produce great performances and bleak but heart warming tales. Thought the leads tonight were great. Very believable. Nice boobies too ;)
  20. Thanks, all very exciting :D
  21. We've a suspected case at the office. Ordinarily the chance of a mild flu during an ashes test would be great, but I've a wife in the family way and I will confess to a few pangs of anxiety now and then. Does anyone know if the vaccine will be safe for anyone up the duff or will relenza be the only hope?
  22. And Hauritz gone to Flintoff. Huzzah
  23. Get in. Bowlers looking (well, reading) good!!
  24. It's nearer to Swansea than Cardiff about half an hour away. Cottages4u has some great Places all over the uk, worth checking out.
