  1. I actually thought there were alot of positives to take away from that game, and I think I said as much in my first reaction to the game. I didn't think we were all that bad at all, but as you say quids, how good are Spain, awesome. In fact the closest they've come to losing in their ludicrously successful 29 match run was that desperately horrible game against a brutal and cynical Italy. I think what I was getting at above was that you can't play Spain on their terms unless you're an on song Argentina or Brazil basically.
  2. Inclined to agree that he was trying to hard to impress himself upon the team, when the goals and chances will come for him, but it's an attractive theory. I guess we could take from that that either England should learn those lessons, or it should play more like a premiership team, but at them moment we're in a rubbish football limbo, neither classy and patient nor direct and effective.
  3. Oh, I just thought people were doing the hokey cokey.
  4. I agree that 86 was winnable, 90 we should have, and 96 we really hit our stride, a joy to watch until those dreaded penalties. Barring that then yes, pretty awful and Ericsson's tenure was an utter waste of potentially talented teams. Having watch Spain frustrate me just as much over the years there's nothing to say things can't change, but last night was definitely a good lesson to show how much we need to progress over the next 18 months or so. There's a very good review of the game here: http://www.elpais.com/articulo/deportes/campeon/freno/elpepudep/20090212elpepudep_1/Tes Which basically says Xavi is the heartbeat of the team, that though England were poor, without Rooney and Gerrard it was a C team *coughs*. And that despite Capello England haven't evolved at the same rate as it's clubs, that we were England of old and nothing to be afraid of, especially when we didn't play to the strengths of the towering forwards in the second half. There was also a bit of criticism of Torres as they marvelled at Spain's patience, saying he's been infected by the pace of the Premiership and was snatching at chances that the other players had the maturity not to waste.
  5. A little footballing lesson from the European champions there, though the signs were far from all bad, some encouraging play and first half was well organised. Why we weren't going with width to the towering front men once Spain had packed the midfield in the second half though, I don't know. Hanging around in front of ones own area isn't going to win us* any games. And what a goal from our* David Villa!! And not a bad effort from Cole at the end. *I reserve the right to use the term we for both teams.
  6. Ooh, looks good D_C, will have to get (paying an everyfink). Andrew Bird has a new album out as do Howling Bells btw, neither of which can I find in the musical desert that is Victoria!!
  7. Zero Punctuation on very good form. Ooh, and his orange box review worth watching just to hear him say "I can't criticise it" re Portal!!
  8. Peter Kenyon went to Liverpool? Weird.
  9. Ha ha, don't worry, I think you'll find both dips are crimbo, not you ;-)
  10. You'll be fine. Peru's ok for the most part in the well trodden areas, trouble really only in the hinterland and shining path almost a thing of the past. Bolivia's pretty safe too. Rio, well, wear a money belt. Argentina as safe as here (for what that's worth) and Chile too. You'll have a brilliant time.
  11. Yep, this one was superb last time, really put on a good show for us, and lock-in to boot.
  12. To be honest Sean I've a few friends on both sides of the Sheffield divide and have had a soft spot for both teams due to that, and can't bring myself to wish the Blades ill, I just wish they'd fuck off and leave us alone. And cheers Sandperson, it was a good reflection on us that it took a moment of brilliance like that to break us down, pity we couldn't get the ball in the net as a draw would have been a fair reflection. Cole's improving many areas of his game but that poacher's instinct is still a little, mmm ragged shall we say.
  13. welcome to the forum mikecg ;)
  14. "We had David Batty instead." Ha ha, brilliant and so true. But Le Tis had himself to blame a bit. He was never as committed to the game as he could have been, but that pragmatic streak was something else I admired about him. He'd enjoy a few pints and the odd pie and still provide 7(ish) of the 10 goals of the season!!
  15. "Bob is a great songwriter." Yes, the shake-and-vac commercial and the Teletubbies theme were definitely two of his masterpieces.
  16. Oh, I'm me alright. Irritating pedantic know-it-all & mockney to the core!!
  17. I think they'll stand the test of time and will continue to be remembered and played, but once they pass from living memory I think it'll be more as facets of this culture rather as the pinnacle of musical genius that Mozart and particularly Bach represent. Now Take That...that's another matter entirely!!!!
  18. His record collection is eclectic and rather good. It is also intriguing because it's uncannily similar to mine, minus the half-man-half-biscuit and beatles albums. Mind you I don't think they'll be remembered in quite the same way as Mozart and Bach, I'm inclined to agree with him there.
  19. No mention of Le Tissier?!?! Just because he never went to a fashionable club....and was a lazy sod...doesn't mean he didn't rank among the best. For my money Bergkamp was the best player in England of the last 20 years. Prior to that McAvennie and Cottee, have to agree with RC B)
  20. I think there's a 'consolidate library' function too that will get all the disparate files that you've pointed iTunes at and copy them to the default directory.
  21. Open it up in anything from mspaint through to photoshop or picasa (free from google) most will have a file resize option. Make it smaller, save it as a gif or lower quality jpg also helps.
  22. frosting over?! frosting over?!?!? I'll have you know that looks a narrow depth of field, probably with a good quality 50mm prime lens...err I imagine.
  23. What the heck is going on with that accent?!?!?! I totally hear where he's coming from though, IT development is soooo similar, it's a tense business and we need some understanding. Just the other day our business analyst came over with a cup of tea just as I was about to make a connection to the database, i fucking trashed his requirements man, he just didn't fucking understand.
  24. Groups hasn't been implemented here, nor do i know of any plans to do so. Do feel free to start up a thread in the lounge on that theme though, many threads serve the same purpose of special interest groups, such as the football, poetry, photography, theatre and so on.
  25. Huzzah, nice to have a bit of luck for a change.
