  1. This made me chuckle. Man offers quests to passers-by in Bath Well, I did warn that this was the geeks' room.
  2. FPS therapy, I sooo recommend it. It's amazing how cathartic blowing away a roomful of flood with the shotgun can be.
  3. > Being a needle user doesn't make you a child snatcher Perhaps not, but I can understand concerned residents. It does make you more likely to be sociopathic, a thief, a bit smelly or a combination of the above, or of course none of the above. Prior to criminalisation heroin users tended to be a pretty decent living bunch who could get their drug of choice on prescription, so there's nothing intrinsically wrong with being a heroin addict, more of a demographic issue, ie these days your addiction is likely to have arisen out of poverty, a history of abuse etc. These people need society's help to recover, or at least not drop dead in the meantime. Next door to a nursery though? I dunno, would it be so difficult to run it out of the one on the high st? As for nimbyists, they're members of society too you know, I just wish they wouldn't do it around here.
  4. well, me or sean or keef "eternal darkness 3 times" otta ;-)
  5. Before I settle down to a good session of Bioshock in front of the 80 inch screen in this THX compliant room of ours (don't worry quiet room, it's fully soundproofed too) I have to ask, what the hell is Jack Thompsons problem. Seriously, aren't there real issues out there worth getting hot under the collar about? Manhunt 2, Bully, GTA I can juuuuust about see the controversy, but Halo 3?!?! http://gamepolitics.com/2007/09/21/jack-thompson-seeks-to-have-halo-3-declared-a-public-nuisance-block-its-release-in-florida/
  6. >Blackfriars (via peckham and Denmark Hill and best of all Elephant and Castle) I get that service from DH, and though a bit infrequent it runs on the whole very well. No real complaints.
  7. That's when I predict my liver will start functioning properly again. (something to do with the cordite in the air perhaps?)
  8. I did the ED to LB commute last week as I was on a course. It had been about 5 years since that was my regular route. I noticed the trains were as punctual as they ever were (yeah, irony tags) and the number of passengers seemed to have doubled. On the plus side the rolling stock is a vast improvement and I'd have to disagree about the overcrowding, there was actually breathing space despite the extra numbers; one morning I even got a seat (it helps if you go near the back of the train thus facing a traumatic extra 30 seconds walk out of london bridge). The victoria loop would definitely be a big loss, but am I right in thinking this will effectively be replaced by the east london line extension anyway?
  9. I wish you the best of luck azul, but I don't plan to set foot in a pub until november!!
  10. Oh keef, look what you've gone and reminded me of you bad man. Vanilla Ica - Ninja Rap Go nin-ja go nin-ja go! Mind you, on the bright side, that's gone and reminded me that I'm sorry, if I upset ya, to get the better of me I wouldn't let ya
  11. Well that'll explain why I never had the foggiest idea what Burroughs is on about. Still, good cameo in Drugstore Cowboy.
  12. to purloin Keef's phrase, "what he said". *err LozzyLoz, not Sean.
  13. How can you tell ;)
  14. I just want stuff to appear on my table without having to worry too much about it, if that's me modern farming methods that make that possible then whoopee doo. I'm merely pointing out that blind faith in chemicals with a long track record in causing harm is probably more harmful in the long run than superstitious belief in the organic god. Where you put yourself in that spectrum Alan, is not only none of my business, it doesn't interest me at all.
  15. Be warned, the telly may be big but they won't put the sound on. Of the service, if I was an unfair reviewer I might suggest it's flirting with being intrusive, but luckily the staff had enough charm to stay on the right side of that. In fact our waitress, Ella, was so pleasantly barking mad that it added to the whole experience. Ooh, and the food was nice too. Everything less than a tenner too, which after being at a Young's pub on saturday with mains up to 14 quid for average food, was a pleasant surprise.
  16. Pesticides have been linked (not necessarily definitively) to all sorts of nasty things from Parkinsons' to BSE. Often its a cost benefit thing. DDT helped eradicate malaria from many areas but did untold damage to the food chain. I've no idea what the answers are but I don't think it's nearly as straightforward as you imply AD. On the whole I'm inclined to believe that avoiding eating stuff drenched in nerve agents is probably a good thing.
  17. As we don't really do the whole replying thing, splitting and merging threads doesn't work too well. Posting guidelines and general netiquette suggest searching for a topic and adding to it, before starting a new one, to see if it's been dealt with. This doesn't always happen as you've correctly surmised. But multiple threads have a habit of dying off, leaving one active. It's not ideal, but it's pragmatic.
  18. You mean you never had recourse to use "Interactive Illinois Report Card"? I'm shocked!
  19. I think that may have been Johnson, but totally agree with the sentiment. Pepys' best pal and my great great [snip] great great grandad, John Evelyn was known to wander round these parts too. He was also something of a lush and would thoroughly approve of today's LL!!
  20. *wonders when the quiet room became the Kate Bush appreciation society.* well, sort of
  21. I have to say, that's the most confusing marking system I've ever seen!! No doubt a compromise created by a committee of management consultants which left nobody satisfied. (actually what's the collective noun for them, an expense claim of management consultants?)
  22. Second drinks was at the EDT. How about the Montpellier (not exactly SE22 I know)?
  23. hello stranger. So how was the Montpelier? Ella for mayor i say!
  24. Does allfornun make stream of conciousness posts using random word generators a la david bowie? Strangely impressive in it's own ocelot way! (see what I did there?)
  25. you're crap but good enough to spot thre gift horses in the mouth thank you very much. I'm off to sulk!!
