  1. I actually think it was pretty good when it started. Food was simple, inexpensive and ok. There was a lovely waitress there who was always great, and the main man, a nice frenchman (never thought I'd hear myself using that phrase) genuinely tried to give people the best possible experience. First he went, then she went, and the next couple of times I went (just to be sure) the standards of food and drink had plummeted (ensue drunken argument about I could make a better cosmo that resulted in some terrible cointreau related incidents at home some time afterward); and the DJ insisted on starting early, his music at full volume that I doubt any of the diners there at 6 in the evening ever returned (neither did their hearing). I've yet to see it recover, in fact in the following 18 months or so it just seems to have got even worse.
  2. Black pudding is a beautiful thing, especially when you get it right. In carnivore heaven, central Spain, it's down to an absolute art form, your English and your Irish aren't even in the same division!!
  3. Nice version. Actually possibly nicer than the original. I've a love hate thing with bowie. Love some stuff, hate other stuff. This album encapsulated it with some quality but some seriously sub-prog bad quality rawk in there too. Might have to give it another listen now, just to remind myself like ;)
  4. and having calmed down after this morning's unusual burst of energy and general good naturedness Andrew Bird - Heretics* *mp3
  5. I take both your points (Louisa and Ted), but if a vegetarian meal is beyond your ken, then say so, don't trick the customer into staying. I'd respect honesty and be inclined to return more than if I received a half-arsed effort after umming and aahing.
  6. I've never found the staff in the Gowlett aggressive. To be honest I don't think I've ever seen them move, so perhaps once they do they'd be aggressive at it. TBH I've had pretty mixed experiences there, but it's never been a pub I've felt comfortable in.
  7. Is that the one of the infamous petition?
  8. And it's a happy day, so how about some Japanese funk!! Rip Slyme - Galaxy
  9. Agree with Mr McGabhann, I generally hang out in the deep south, and even in the remotest villages the smoking ban is faithfully observed. Careful with that word libertarian. There are some pretty nasty types over the water who are co-opting it for their own nefarious views.
  10. I have to echo MN's comments. I disapprove of almost everything under TB's tutelage, but am totally selfish in thinking this one was pretty good. But yes, high sts do have a fagash lil stink about them now, still I'd rather it was whirling with fresh air than trapped in a smug going nowhere. Having been to Ireland quite a few times over the last few years I can assure you that inclement weather won't deter a smoker from having a fag. There's even a perception in Ireland that people take up smoking in order to hang around with the 'cool crowd' outside the pub. Sounds a bit anecdotal to me, unless of course none of us have got over being 13 and thinking it makes you cool? anyone...anyone...Bueller?
  11. A cheap fold out bed perhaps.
  12. hurrah, home time soon enjoy My Latest Novel - Sister Sneaker Sister Soul
  13. > 8 items for 95p before 10am at Ikea. It's crap but its cheap! That stopped me in my tracks. Then I had to remember it was on a thread about cooked breakfasts. I'm not a huge fan of ikea, but 8 items for 95 would be too much for even me to pass up ;)
  14. I've had a bit of a dig around and it seems that fuel-dumping is done to bring a plane to within certain weight tolerances on landing, and is usually only needed if a plane is forced to land early, say, if you have a swarthy employee on board taking a legitimate company flight. What we witnessed was then probably the planes hitting a particularly warm humid pocket of air and leaving a brief contrail of water vapour, which is apparently quite commonly mistaken for fuel dumping (I know I did). The fact that it was happening at the same spot did rather make it look like they were picking on Brixton though.
  15. I love the woods, well up for dressing as ninjas. We'll look a very odd bunch in the Harvester garden afterwards :D
  16. If you go out and hug a tree (err instead)
  17. Probably a bit far, also left out the george canning/phoenix and fox on hill, though they're all my locals, but I have to say yet to visit either the rye or the herne, or page2 for that matter. Yes, you're right Fear, will promote the castle immediately.
  18. Uplands - CPT Yep, they're about the two ends of my ED pubs spectrum too!! *edited as memory returns on a monday morning* *ahem, THAT unmentionable pub may be bottom after all* Let me see... [bad]NTV, Uplands, Magdala, Palmerston, Clock House, Bishop, Gowlett, Castle, Hoopers, Inside 72, Black Cherry, EDT, CPT[great] Can't speak for plough as hadn't been there for years, and now refurbed. *and yes AD, I realise this is greater East Dulwich*
  19. Ha ha. I have to say I had a look yesterday to see "whatever happened to". She's in a terrible band called racine* and has gone down the huge amounts of surgery clinging on to youth look like a freak of nature route. Watch at your peril, it's perfectly SFW it's just terrible.
  20. That's pretty neat. Sadly, knowing LU's long tradition of bringing down sites that infringe it's copyright, I fear for this. Pity as it's really quite impressive in a simple sort of way.
  21. There's one in Herne Hill, very close to the half moon. It has a good reputation, but I did find it on the pricey side.
  22. haha, that's class indeed. Though it did remind me somewhat of this: Alan Partridge - Abba Medley
  23. :D ha ha In all fairness school policy shouldn't be dictated by kids in specs. And careful with the geek slating CWALD!! ;-P
  24. Hasn't it been that way for years now? I thought it all kicked in a couple of years after I left school ('91). Apparently Brown wants to scrap the non-competitive onsense as he instils victorian values in the country, very 21st century!! Mind you it's the geeks who are all uber-competitive playing counterstrike and wii bowling.
  25. clever video (the latter), pretty pretty girl, hardly a milf though. Keeping the pretty girls/ready for the weekend geeetar thing going... The Raveonettes - That Great Love Song and MILFs? she's bound to be one by now. Transvision Vamp - Baby I don't Care* *probably belongs in the guilty pleasures section this one.
