  1. actually red hair may be one of the last genetic vestiges of Neanderthal man. Modern theories suggest that they weren't killed off or outcompeted, they were brought into our stock through interbreeding and effectively disappeared as a separate species. Among other things red hair is thought to be a neanderthal legacy. I'll try and find a (missing ho ho) link.

  10. On that very page Brendan... The role of Y. pestis in the Black Death is debated among historians; some have suggested that the Black Death spread far too rapidly to be caused by Y. pestis. DNA from Y. pestis has been found in the teeth of those who died from the Black Death, however, and medieval corpses who died from other causes did not test positive for Y. pestis.

  18. Southern edge was heading toward the south coast, hence so much of london, herts etc being clay, it's where the glaciers dumped all that nasty gunk. What's now the channel was all land and recent sonar surveys have spotted signs loads of settlements down there. Would have been good fishing in the super river fed by the tributaries of the rhine, oder, somme, meuse and the seine!!!
  19. ** shall I lounge this myself if I still can? **
  20. well, we did at least make it there despite the defeat so relatively speaking.... Mind you I'd rather forget about the championship itself. Luckily I had Spain as a team too....doh!!!
  21. You can keep your meaningless friendlies. I may have to mention that penalty miss and that goal. My mate phoned me up from a pub in Annan at half time informing me how we were going to be drubbed and how they had all been watching braveheart all morning. So confident was he that he gave me the phone number of the pub (pre mobile days) in case he forgot to gloat after the game I should ring him so he could pile on the abuse. Strangely the landlord could find noone of his description frantically waving that he didn't want to speak in the pub after the game?!? Anyway, Miss Jowell...never answers her phone either...
  22. To be fair Driot-de-Seigneur was just something your Norman ruling class type exercised over whomsoever he ruled, be he Saxon, Celt or Pict. Braveheart has about as much historical accuracy as the dodgy dossier; it's useful only to pump up Scotsmen before a football game against the English that they'll probably lose anyway.
  23. Ting-tang-tommy save all. Same game, I remember hearing that this game has more regional name variations than any other.
  24. agreed, I've a load of albums lined up for playing down the park, and zip. Not heard of pink martini, shall have a dig around. Is it a drink too?
  25. Well I need the wall above my sink tiled at some point. I'm happy to earn a few flortillas getting people's Halo 2 rankings up. Err that's about all I have to offer.
