  1. True. What sort of "ist" am I if I take a pop at a black mini-cab driver?
  2. Brendan - take your point. Black cab drivers have done the knowledge but mini cab drivers are mostly hopeless. I take a lot of mini cabs.
  3. Taxi drivers who expect me to give them directions. Got a satnav? Switch it on and get your money's worth then.
  4. The Weeping Song - Nick Cave & Bad Seeds
  5. Taxi drivers who are too lazy to knock at my door so sit outside blowing their horns instead. It's rude. I never tip them.

    Great Gigs

Mr McG - Yes it is Regent's Park way I think - some folk dancing hall. Sounds strange. You been there?
  7. Yes there is such a thing as professional barstaff. For me it's someone who is properly trained and sees it as a proper job, not someone using bar work as a stepping stone or to get extra money but doesn't really have the skills to run a bar properly.
  8. Pizzeria Castello at E&C - badly miss that place. Is the new place any good?

    Great Gigs

I'm seeing Goldfrapp this evening at some tiny place that I don't know how to get to - should be interesting if I figure out where it is. I saw her once before but only because Antony and the Johnsons were supporting her and I can't get enough of A&tJs. One of the best gigs I've been to this year was the Metallica album launch last month at the O2. The guys did a really great gig. They charged ?5 a ticket, played a cracking set, and then hung around to sign autographs, shake hands and generally thank the fans for making the album number one. I wish more bands did more for their fans. Because they played in the round it was great being on the arena floor and the views and general closeness were quite something. The only other time I've stood on the arena floor at O2 was for Led Zeppelin (I'm a lucky girl aren't I) when the views weren't so good. Metallica returns to O2 next year and are again playing in the round. Tickets on sale this Friday but If you're on the O2 network text METAL to 2402 and buy yours a day early. Try and get arena floor standing though because it's great down there. I bought mine yesterday but the standing allocation I bought from sold out in minutes. One negative about the Metallica gig was just how downright horrible the O2 staff were to fans on the arena floor (one notable exception of an extremely nice lady with a long pony tail and a big smile for everyone - you know who you are lady!). It's true to say that I'm a genre whore and I'm as happy in the Crush Bar at the Royal Opera House as I am in any mosh pit, and in my wide experience there is no nicer, more obliging fan, than a metal fan. They are good people. It was sad to see their night out being pissed on by bad-attitude staff. I hope O2 isn't going to way of Brixton Academy, which only seems to employ dragons and demons. I won't even go to Brixton unless it's a band I really can't live without seeing, I would rather travel half way across London to go somewhere that the staff actually respect the patrons (The Roundhouse/Shepherds Bush Empire). Rant over - go see Metallica - a bit of headbanging will clear away the cobwebs.
  10. I agree that professional barstaff should remember what order to serve people. The Irish are the best - they're born to it.

  12. I never get served at bars. I'm invisible to staff. And I always want to buy my round; I'm not backward in that respect. It's embarrassing when you offer to buy a round and then get stuck at the bar waving a twenty pound note around for an eternity. Always happens, every time. Maybe move to the petty annoyances thread?
  13. Emotional Rescue - Stones
  14. George was my fave. He's not signing autographs either. Fekker.
  15. Ringo who? Oh him. Nope - didn't get his autograph. I'm just going to have to find a way to carry on without it.
  16. Levi Stubbs was the voice of Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors. What a voice. That was one sexy houseplant.
  17. I have many guilty pleasures but few I will fess up to..... I've just returned from having a mani/pedi so I read the trashy magazines in Heavenly Nails (which I would never pay money for). In the days when I had a TV I used to watch QVC - the presenters fascinated me. Music - I love this - always have - first gig I ever went to - Belview Manchester (anyone remember that place?) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vZZngTkp54I And I spend a lot of money on shoes. I don't feel guilty about that though - it's my non-guilty pleasure.
  18. I read tipping point but it didn't change my life. All seemed very obvious to me. Couldn't see what the fuss was about.
  19. Sixteen Tons - Johnny Cash
  20. I don't mind him too much actually (shock, gasp, horror). He did a half decent Pixies Cover - "Where is My Mind". Not keen on his own songs but I liked the Pixies cover.
  21. Little T&A - Rolling Stones (Keeef really though)
