Thanks for the tip Keef. That's worth knowing. I'm thinking of cancelling my membership to be honest. I struggle to find films to put on my list and then when they come I struggle to find the time to watch. For months now I've had The Wire set to number one priority and had everything else on my list set to low priority. What's the point of prioritising discs if they're going to ignore your choices? Great tip though.

I'm such a hypocrite. At every gig these days you see people pointing their phones at the stage and recording rather than actually watching what's going on. Tut tut I go "stop that and watch the gig". Then when I get home I start searching for the clips on Youtube. Such a hypocrite. Anyway, moving swiftly on, here is Antony from last Friday's gig at the Barbican. Poor quality but what a performance. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VrbMEITySj8 Edited 'cos I just found this on youtube, which is a better recording of the song http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pQzH00Xrh2w

The Wire Season 2 has been right at the top of my "must have NOW" list with lovefilm.com forever and I finally received disc 1 on Saturday morning. I was giddy with excitement. Unfortunately I had to hurry off to the West End to the Saturday afternoon matinee of Hairspray with my Brighton friends (how very gay my Saturday was). Anyway, Good Morning Baltimore y'all http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=egLhkmA8Z50 Many hours later I was tucked up in bed (slightly pissed) watching disc 1 on my laptop. A whole different take on Baltimore, I think you'll agree. Gosh I'd almost forgotten how hot McNulty is. So long since I saw Season 1 that I'm sort of finding my feet a little. It's all good.

Birmingham International Airport's 33 page 2007-2008 Report and Accounts has an interesting photo, showing what a luggage scanner sees: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/10/06/brum_airport_shocker/ Look hard. OMG I'm never ever flying anywhere again.

Ahh SimonM you has the knowledge. You has passed the "girl thangs" test with flying colours. Jane Birkin, high priestess of Hermes and godmother of the Birkin.
-
Ahh, culture. Thanks for that. Very nice. Unfortunately the Grey Goose I'm most familiar with comes in a bottle.
-
Exactly HB. Very well put. For example, the day that I click on the Cricket/Badminton/Football threads will be the day that I?ve gone face down in a vat of Grey Goose. And yet I would fight to the death * for the right of those forumites who like to knock a ball about having something to call their own. * only a figure of speech, obviously.

Leave the music thread alone! For me, it's a very rich source of music that I've never heard before. Most of the music on this thread wouldn?t get radio play. Most of my CD collection wouldn?t get radio play. Bring it on. It really never occurred to me that people might be showing off. Why would you even think that though? Mockney - you do realise don't you that YOU started the Music thread? Well done. What did you actually have in mind originally though? Did that not pan out for you?

Moos - you're scaring me. Have you been looking over my shoulder?
-
Moos - you're absolutely right and I humbly apologise. Birkin should always be with a capital H. I can't actually get on bended knee right now because my boss is looking at me and he thinks I'm working on next year's budget. He will probably think I'm praying.

A Birkin is a handbag (I told you it's a girl thang). What's a Merkin? Do I need one? Can I afford it?

Here are two great gigs (I think) you might like to consider going to: Elbow at the Dome in Brighton, Saturday 28th Feb. The Dome is a lovely venue (screw Wembley!). Book direct and don't pay booking fees http://www.brightondome.org/ The Who at Indigo2 on Wednesday 17th December. This is a tiny venue for a big band. Indigo2 is the small venue within the O2 complex. I haven't been to it yet so I don't know what it's like. You can book for this one now at Ticketmaster but be quick. They are also playing the Sunday night at Indigo but that was a fan-only gig and sold out immediately. Nobody knows about the 17th yet and it will sell out once it gets some publicity.

I'm going to have to come off the waiting list for my fourth Birkin and make do with the three I already own (it's a girl thang).

Stop it. My hand shook as I clicked on this thread. I thought Daniel Craig had resigned. First David Tennant and now DC. We've barely seen his abs and, poof, gone already. I had a tear in my eye. Please choose your thread names with more care in future Mrs Clive. Going for a sit down.

any women with a career, own money and no kids in dulwich!?
giggirl replied to angela2711's topic in The Lounge
Angela the Troll has tripped tropped off elsewhere. She didn't win any friends and she didn't influence anyone. That's rather sad when you think about it. It would make for a very dull forum if we all sat round agreeing with each other though huh? -

anyone having problems with royal mail sorting office?
giggirl replied to sibbers1's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sorry to hear of your experience. I live right near the sorting office and I have to say I get amazing service. I get a lot of special delivery mail and the sorting office staff know me and know where I live. That doesn't help you (sorry) but I just wanted to say that somebody (me) is getting a decent service from Royal Mail. As regards your Ebay purchases, if you paid using Paypal and you are within 30 days of purchase then you should immediately file a "goods not received" complaint with Paypal. I know this seems a bit unfair to the seller but, frankly, it is the way ebay works. It is the responsibility of the seller to ensure that the buyer receives the goods and if the seller is not able to offer proof of receipt by the buyer (not proof of posting - that is meaningless) then the buyer can file for a refund with Paypal within 30 days. If the seller has not sent the item via a trackable method then they are screwed. The onus is 100% on the seller to do this. It does not matter one iota if you did not pay for secure postage as secure postage protects the SELLER, not the buyer. This may all seem barmy but trust me, it is true. If the seller then wants to make a claim with Royal Mail then that is for them to do and is not your problem. As the buyer, your way forward is "goods not received" claim with Paypal. -
Our first TV set (when I was a kid) took about 2 minutes to do anything after being switched on. It was like waiting for the iron to warm up. Try telling that to the young ones today (oops, I think I might be on the wrong thread here).
-
Sorry David but, despite instructions, I'm laughing at you. What about watching telly and then the ads come on and the volume suddenly sky rockets. That shouldn't be legal. Seriously. I think it's illegal to put subliminal messages into bradcast programmes (The Young Ones did it in the 80s and got into trouble) and that's no worse than pumping up the volume for ads.
