I wouldn't go that far ;-) I suspect it's early 80's to be honest but that's a hunch, I actually have a photo of the site before it was built on, I don't know what sort of year the cars in the pic are though? I do love a bit of detective work :)
  2. Welcome to the neighbourhood :) We live almost opposite and the are a fair few on here who live very close too. My husband grew up here and seems to think the building is late 80's early 90's. It used to be a chip shop pre-war but was bombed and remained undeveloped until this building went up, my husband used to play on the site as a child. If we work out a more exact year I'll get back to you.
  3. I heard Prostrateman was actually the brains behind it.
  4. And all thanks to my post ;-P
  5. Just came across this http://www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/news/9197001.Lambeth_11_year_old_missing/ Not sure where in Dulwich, but worth being aware. Hopefully he's home soon.
  6. They were looting in Peckham again last night, apparently they've taken half price cracked ice and miles and miles of carpet tiles, TV's, deep freeze and David Bowie LP's.
  7. Sainsbury's on DKH.
  8. I agree that Peckham needs it more.
  9. Evening all, I need to get from ED (DKH side) to Grays, leaving at about 8.30am on a weekday with a pram + 3 children. Done lots of research but hoping someone may have some anecdotal knowledge? My options are: 1. Walk to ED Road/Peckham Rye junction, 78 to Fenchurch Street, Train to Grays. 2. Train from ED to London Bridge, walk to Fenchurch Street... 3. Train from P.Rye to Lewisham, DLR to Limehouse, train to Grays. Are any of these routes possible with a pram? (I can do stairs at stations it's more the crowds that concern me) or does anyone have any other ideas? Many, many thanks! Vik
  10. Try the Albrighton Centre on 020 7274 0509 or Dog Kennel Hill Adventure playground on 020 7274 6197?

  12. On maps from 1896 onwards it was called Woodville, I grew up very near there and it was some sort of care home 20+ years ago.
  13. Charter's only closed to years 9 & 12. Harris Boys ED open.
  14. http://www.coftonholidays.co.uk/home Been twice and will go back next year. A beautiful, well kept park, lots to do for all ages.
  15. Dog Kennel Hill School Fayre is on tomorrow 12-4.30.
  16. My little'un was exclusively BF'd too and I really couldn't be bothered with expressing so just didn't give her baby rice - we just went straight to pur?ed fruit and veg and finger foods. If you want to give rice, I think I would prob give formula though.
  17. Thank you for all the helpful comments and the lovely, positive PM's about Bessemer. I think the reason this has been more difficult for us is that our 2 older boys went to DKH (the younger of whom is in year 6 now so we loose the sibling place) and we've been part of the school, for about 9 years and just always thought that we'd be there. On a purely sentimental note - my husband also went there! As soon as we heard that we were offered Bessemer, we went and looked around, it does have a lot going for it but of course I am finding it difficult not to compare it to the school we know so well. I am being positive, my daughter liked the look of it and judging by all the messages I've had, there are lots of lovely parents there. My main concern now is that she will start there in September, love it, and then we'll be offered a place at DKH - Oh the turmoil!
  18. Update on our situation - Offered Bessemer, not one of our choices at all, we live (according to Southwark) 320 metres from DKH (a 4 minute walk.) Started 5th on the waiting list, dropped to 7th and are now 13th! Looking less and less likely that we will be at DKH.

  21. 1905. From Edith's Streets: "Austin?s Court now occupies the site of Austin's at Peckham Rye. This was one of the largest antique and second-hand dealers in Europe. It was started by George Austin who in 1876 had opened Oxford Farm Dairy and also advertised Household Removals and Warehousing. In 1905 they took on the site at Peckham Rye. His son George Edward Austin and his four sons built up the business in the 1930s. It was later run by his great grandson with his sister Valene. L it closed in 1994."
  22. I think the rule of thumb is that if they have a company number rather than a charity number - don't give. The 'company' name appears to be registered to a flat in Crystal Palace.
  23. Don't let them in, they're like vampires - once you've invited them in, they can do what they like. As already said - show the some ID, failing that, refuse them entry and tell them to call the police if needs be.
  24. Have seen them running past and all seems to be normal - a couple of men were seen working on the signals this morning.
  25. Yep, can see signals from my window, lights been stuck on red since the strike - eerily quiet on the line tonight!
