  1. I have a wind up doorbell. The only problem I have ever had was when someone overwound it and broke the spring, and it had to be replaced.

Because it had crashed after fitting into an extremely tight space, but mainly surely because it had crashed on the pavement outside a local school. And could have happened when there were children/other people standing there. I can't understand who you don't get it! I imagine the person who took the photos intended to post them on here when s/he took them. This is a local forum and I would have thought it was exactly the kind of thing which is of interest to local people/parents, who would otherwise probably never have known about it. And who can now push for safety measures near the school which evidently had already been asked for.

The Peckham office is a delivery office. Unless your battery was sent to an address in Peckham or East Dulwich, it can't have gone missing from the Peckham office as it won't have passed through there.

  8. I think Callows are a good locksmith, so what they have recommended is fine by me :) The lock has lasted at least the thirty years I have lived here with no previous attention, and until a day or so ago it was fine. Since the WD-40 it is as smooth as a very smooth thing. Don't think it needs any further lubrication (ooh missus) and Callows didn't suggest I needed to use anything else.
  9. No catch up for ITV News. Can watch it an hour later on ITV 1 + 1 but for tedious reasons my TV is presently elsewhere and I can't work out how to watch ITV 1+ 1 on my laptop, so I will never see the manager lying through his teeth. Not this time round, anyway :(
  10. Do you have to watch this live to see it?
  11. edcam Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Am I alone in thinking that posting pictures of > car crashes is weird? But surely these were only posted because it was a particularly weird situation? And local. It's not like anyone was posting pictures of injuries. It was posting the car number plate which worried me slightly, though I'm not sure why.
  12. Update: WD-40 worked like a dream in about a millisecond. Hooray! Glad I checked it out first, though, just in case :)
  13. I have been to Callows, who were extremely helpful. They said yes, I should try WD40 first. If that doesn't work, I can bring the lock in and they will service it for me. I asked about graphite. They said on no account use graphite as it has filings in it and will eventually clog up the lock. ETA: I took in a photo of the lock.
  14. It's a bit worrying that they are lying about their rating and don't want to discuss it, though?

That's a good idea, thanks!

I doubt I have though, as I think the key was indeed a copy. My sister broke the original key one Christmas and Dulwich DIY managed to make a copy from half a key :) I think I will try WD40 and if that doesn't work I will replace the whole lock. I'm worried about security (if it sticks open) and safety (if it sticks closed).
  19. I found something online which said on no account to use graphite, so now I'm even more confused :))
  20. Can you use WD 40 on a mortice (I think that's what it's called) lock? My back door lock has started sticking, but I don't want to make it worse. I have googled but there seems to be differing advice (typical).

My granddaughters (9 and 11) practically fight to use my daughter's cordless Dyson. The later models go for a much longer time than 20 minutes when fully charged (provided you don't have them on full power) and also have a larger container for dust/fluff, so you aren't constantly emptying them. They are more expensive though. I'm saving up for one :)) There's a Dyson shop at the Marble Arch end of Oxford Street, however they didn't seem to know much about the models they were selling. The current top end model is only sold direct from Dyson, though John Lewis sells the two models next down in price. They differ in the attachments they come with and the colour of the "stick" (red, gold or purple). The Dyson shop was unable to tell me whether you could buy all the attachments separately (because the ones I wanted didn't come with the colour "stick" I wanted). Pretty basic information, one would have thought. I left their shop telling them not to bother, I would google it, which I could see them doing in a corner. GRRRRRRRR.

I'm pretty sure Fopp in Covent Garden sells vinyl. Straight through on a 176. http://www.fopp.com/stores/london/

It was very lucky that it happened in the early hours when nobody was standing near the bus stop.
