Royal Mail Sorting Office Closure Meeting..
Sue replied to DulwichFox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
And surely sorting en route takes the same time as sorting in the office. Unless they are supposed to do it whilst walking along - surely a safety hazard. Let alone whilst driving. It's a joke. -

Well he's being paid to be the CEO of Royal Mail, so whether or not he cares about them, the buck ultimately stops with him. Obviously minions will do any investigating or whatever, but that has always been the case. -
Royal Mail Sorting Office Closure Meeting..

So. Yesterday the tracking site said my item was "due to be delivered today by East Dulwich DO." It wasn't. Possibly because East Dulwich DO no longer exists. There is a sort of humour here, but I'm not actually amused. Today it says 4.08am "Item prepared for redelivery." It doesn't say whether it will be delivered today or what. So I phoned their complaints people. Fair dos, I only had to wait 8 minutes for somebody to answer, not bad compared to many places. Long story short, all they can do is forward the complaint to the manager of the delivery office. So that would be the manager of the office which appears to be in crisis, then. And guess what, he (I'm assuming it is a he as most of them still are) has 72 hours to sort it. So, I'm told that if it isn't delivered today, it will be delivered on Monday. So having stayed in yesterday, I have to stay in the rest of today, then stay in on Monday. I made it clear that I am not willing to trek down to Peckham and probably wait over an hour in a queue, especially as I am currently quite ill. Oh, and it could be delivered to a Post Office, but then I have to pay 70p. The fee can't be waived because it is "two separate companies." FFS. Does anybody have an email address for the new CEO? ETA: It's [email protected] . Thanks Google! ETA: Don't bother phoning the number given beneath the email address though, it's just the general complaints number I just phoned. Which makes me think that email address will just go through to there as well. Not, obviously, that I thought it would be picked up by the CEO personally, but I did think it might go through to his office. -

Ah OK, presumably they are publicising it only to people who already use them then, fair enough. -

Leaving aside any other issues, I can't understand why The Begging Bowl are not publicising this campaign themselves. -

Call me cynical, but I can see where this is leading. Royal Mail will cease house to house deliveries. Every home will have a box somewhere, probably miles away, where their post will be placed. They will have a key, or a card, and will have to go and pick it all up, and probably pay for the privilege. Mark my words etc etc ETA: Oh and the redelivery I have been waiting in for hasn't arrived yet. I suppose there's still time ... just looked at the tracking site and at 6.26am it said it was due to be delivered today by "East Dulwich DO". Which no longer exists. Oh well. -
This is on The Ivy House Facebook page: We can confirm that we reached an agreement with staff representatives on Tuesday 2nd October and the Ivy House began trading again that evening. We are pleased to be able to start moving forward together with our team of staff. While we have always recognised the importance of treating our staff well (and our commitment to paying the London Living Wage reflects this), we are also committed to reviewing our employment practices to help foster a strong and productive working relationship that reflects both our community values and our need to be a profitable business, and to ensuring that the Ivy House is a great place to work. Union recognition We welcome the chance to work towards recognition of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) and have been happy to move forward with this since some of our staff made this request on Sunday morning. Fixed hour contracts We have always offered fixed hour contracts to those who want them, but the agreement we've now reached means that all non-permanent staff will be migrated to a form of fixed hour contract which formalises the minimum number of shifts the Ivy House will offer, negotiated according to each individual's availability, and which will try to reflect staff's expectations of hours. This will take the needs of the business into account in order for us to remain financially viable, and our staff recognise this. Staff migrating to these new contracts will be afforded the full disciplinary process that was not previously a feature of their working arrangements. We recognise that this process is an important aspect of fair working relationships and we also recognise the distress caused to the staff concerned, who have been reinstated pending fresh disciplinary procedures during which they will have an opportunity to respond to the issues we identified. Disruption to customers In undertaking these negotiations we have been mindful of both our need to rebuild relations with staff, and our responsibility to protect the Ivy House as a viable business which can thrive long into the future. As a small independent enterprise, the pub cannot withstand the financial impact of a strike without warning and without the usual notice requirements, and this meant we couldn't plan for the disruption that followed. We have therefore secured a commitment from our staff that legally required steps will be followed in the case of any future industrial action - although we very much hope this won't be required. We apologise for the disruption in trading experienced by all of our shareholders, customers and event organisers and promoters over the last few days. We really value our staff and continue to see them as an essential part of the community and the pub, and we look forward to renewing a relationship based on mutual respect in which all parties have the best interests of the Ivy House at heart, and can work towards a future that includes both success as a business and strength as a community project. With best wishes, All of us on the Ivy House Management Committee

I'm expecting a requested redelivery today. I'm not holding my breath. A pack of magazines which we sell at our gigs was posted out first class on 19 September (as we found out later). We had a sold out gig on 28 September and had no magazines to sell. This was particularly unfortunate since our headliner was on the cover. When they still hadn't turned up by 1 October, we contacted the sender, who sent another pack out the same day. Both packs arrived in the same delivery on 2 October. GRRRRRRRRRRRR. -

How do you manage cleaning of the family home?
Sue replied to Monkey's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The Organised Mum Method also has a Facebook group. You can download (free) a load of cleaning plans etc.. Some of the Facebook members do seem to be a bit obsessive with cleanliness though (some of them seem to disinfect everything in sight, and wash towels and bedding every day ?!?!?!?!?! I don't know how they ever find time to do anything else!) ETA: Monkey, it might be doing other people on here a favour if you let us know who the cleaning people who trashed your house were. That sounds really appalling. -

So. If somebody is injured, or worse, by something falling from this building, who is responsible? The owner? Or the council, who cannot claim that they were not aware? Or somebody else? -

I've just heard that the strike is over and that The Ivy House will be open tonight. Good news!

The Ivy House has arranged a shareholders' meeting on 17 October (I believe 14 days notice is required) so that community shareholders can ask questions directly. Obviously there will be emailed updates before then.

All I had to do was to register with another GP and provide proof of ID and my address. I didn't have to inform my old GP. Obviously you have to be in the catchment area of the GP you want to change to. I can't understand why it would take so long or be a battle (unless the new GP wasn't accepting new patients for some reason?) -

I find it a bit odd, because I had always understood that the Ivy House bar staff were in favour of zero hour contracts because they enabled them to fit their Ivy House work flexibly around their other work, projects and commitments.
