  1. I am vaguely considering getting a Smart TV. Or at least, a new TV. Probably not before Christmas though. I am presently on an Amazon Prime free trial which I signed up to by mistake. If I'm not going to use it I need to cancel it PDQ. Does anybody use Amazon Prime for videos etc and if so how does it compare to Netflix (for example)? I just had a quick look, and it seems you have to pay for movies on top of the monthly payment? I don't watch many movies but would watch documentaries and some TV programmes. Are there any other advantages of Amazon Prime (apart obviously from being tempted to buy loads of stuff you don't really need?) I'm not bothered about the one day delivery, Amazon delivery is usually pretty quick anyway. I haven't really got time to do loads of research online, so I'm hoping somebody will be able to give me the basics on here! ETA: I presently have a Topfield box, but that's only useful if I remember to record something I want to watch ..... ETA: My experience of Prime to date has not been great - having given a preferred delivery slot, they sent a series of conflicting emails about when the item was going to come ....and then delivered it a day earlier than I'd asked without telling me (luckily I was in) so I really wasn't sure what the point of having specified a slot in the first place was :))

  3. Thanks all, not sure why this thread has been resurrected now over six months later, but anyway the "worse" yellow stain came out when I washed it as normal after using the Stain Devil. Thanks for everybody's suggestions, anyway, which I will bear in mind for the future!
  4. They have always looked like pound signs to me!
  5. Are there any churches locally with carol services (not midnight mass) on Christmas Eve? St John's on Goose Green used to have carols immediately before midnight mass, but it doesn't seem to be doing that this year. ETA: To be clear, I am looking for adult carol services, not Christingle or childrens' carol services, as I won't be with any children this year. And preferably late evening services.

I used to get loads of starlings in my garden. A few years back one of them got carried off by a bird of prey, and since then I haven't seen a single one :(
  7. Thanks for the link, ianr. Good to know that the victim is doing better than expected, and also that he and his girlfriend think that justice has been done.

But that was all related to the place where they were staying, wasn't it? There was no evidence that they committed any crimes anywhere else, was there?

  10. I thought you were joking, but I just looked out of the window!

  12. A water rat ran across my path in Peckham Rye park on its way to the lake today. There are usually several around the boardwalk in Dulwich Park, too.

Or also probably less potential crime at 7am than 3am? Hope you aren't too shaken, it sounds very scary.

You wouldn't be able to for financial sites I think, even if you wanted to, because they ask for random characters from the password rather than the whole password.
  15. Sorry posted twice by mistake.

Would the passwords be miraculously saved in their relevant places after a factory reset, which is what the effing stupid woman did instead of a system restore? I've had to put them all back in manually, one by one grrrrrr.
  17. Ah, come on, RPC, a close call? It wasn't a shark :))

    Chimney

You could phone a chimney sweep for advice. I have two numbers (they're a bit old so don't know whether the sweeps are still going). Mister Jolly Chimney Sweep ("Fully trained, reliable, doesn't use children") aka Phil Byrne. 07752 130577 and S. Pearce 020 8699 3713/020 8857 6511
  19. You have my sincere sympathies (I realise that won't help). I have spent all day trying to get my laptop sorted since a Windows 10 update yesterday sent it haywire, and then John Lewis technical experts (hollow laugh) finished the job by walking me through what turned out to be a factory reset instead of a system restore, despite my frequent queries as to whether they were absolutely sure that this was going to take it back to where it was at 9am yesterday. They assured me it would and that all my saved passwords etc would still be there (another hollow laugh). They are giving me twenty pounds compensation, which hardly compensates for the nightmare day I have had (still ongoing). At least I keep clues to all my many passwords on a spreadsheet, GRRRRRRRRR.
  20. Yeh I suspect a fox. I once saw a fox walking from one car roof to another in my road (and on the same occasion, a different fox sleeping on a window sill :) )

  22. That's very heartwarming that people have donated to pay the staff's wages.

Armed police, police tape and an ambulance would seem to suggest it was relatively severe?
