  1. Thanks, yes, I've had two in the past and both these new ones were being built next to the remains of one of the old ones. Though I can't understand why there were two new ones, both very small, in the early stages, and very near each other. There is a small gap in the loft I can see daylight through which must be where the queen is getting in. I have been meaning to do something about it for ages but it's hard to get at.
  2. OK knocked them both off the rafter with a long stick. There is what looks like the very small beginning of what could be a third one, which I couldn't reach. Will keep an eye on it :(
  3. Hey thanks Fox. I will try the stick!!
  4. Having seen a very large wasp come and go, I investigated my loft and found the beginning stages of two new wasp nests. I imagine they don't have much in them at the moment except the queen, and I'm not sure whether foaming wasp killer works on the early stages of wasp development. Does anyone know? Could I just knock the nests off with a broom or something? Would they just be rebuilt? Or is the queen likely to be staying inside (haven't seen her for a few days) and if I use the foam I will kill her and then the rest will die if she isn't there? I feel a bit mean, but I don't want a load of wasps in my loft.
  5. Ilona, for wasps nests it works from three metres away, maybe for ants nests too. But I'm going to start a thread on wasps as I need advice.
  6. Just looking for wasp nest stuff (problem in loft) and found a can of Bio foaming wasp nest destroyer which also destroys ants nests according to the instructions.
  7. Sorry to miss your dawn chorus walk, BNG. We did one last year in Horniman Gardens, but afraid this year bed won :))
  8. Depends what you mean by cheap! People have to earn a living!
  9. You can get ant baits. Don't know if there are kinds other than what you've already used. They eat it, take it back to the nest and die. Probably Farmers or a DIY shop would have them? And probably other suitable things? I doubt there's any non chemical solution apart from boiling water on the nest? But surely it's far too early for flying ants?
  10. Don't want to start another thread, but I had a weird experience recently. I left my house and started walking along the pavement, and had gone a short way when a young man I've never seen before crossed the road and said to me something along the lines of "I saw you just come out of that house and I wondered if it was your house, and if so do you have a plaster." I must have looked a bit bemused, because he then said "I've hurt my finger." On my looking even more bemused, he then showed me his finger (not a euphemism) with a tiny little sore bit which wasn't even bleeding ...... I really didn't know what to say. It wasn't as if he was in desperate need of first aid and there are three chemists in ED, including one just round the corner from my house. Anyway, luckily he then asked if I was in a rush, to which I said yes and he went off. I just wondered if anybody else had experienced anything similar, because I can't see why anyone would ask a complete stranger for a plaster when they didn't even appear to need one. So I wonder if he was trying to get a look inside my house.
  11. Baby moorhens in Dulwich Park :)
  12. I believe most charity shops will take things like that as rags? I've taken bags of clothes not good enough to resell to the hospice shop, clearly marked as rags.
  13. We did think it was rather a grand house! He is one of my favourite artists :)
  14. Some good points are made on this thread: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,1814620 Although it seems (and of course is) worrying, the situation is not much different than it has always been in London. We hear about it more now because of forums like this, and other media.
  15. The Flying Pig were supposed to be changing to a sports TV oriented pub, might they have it?
  16. The Castle used to show the boxing didn't it? Has it stopped?

I've edited it. Hopefully this is the right one: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1814225
  20. Is this the person who has all the camper vans parked in the road opposite Rye Books?
  21. Hope they catch the bastard. ETA: Just seen this http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1814225
  22. Isn't there a difference between getting a report on genetic heritage and finding out whether or not two specific people are related? I'd have thought the former would be more complicated, more expensive, and done by commercial companies? Sorry crossed post with above.
  23. Thanks James, I just did the survey, it was useful.
