  1. Surely it would need someone to look through things for years, and I doubt the camera recordings are kept that long? Also, how would you define a "near miss"? In any case, there would be absolutely no point! All somebody needs to do is stand at that crossing during a time of reasonably heavy traffic (or even low traffic) and it will be quite obvious what the problem is, and that it's a risky situation for any pedestrian trying to assess when/if it is safe to cross. For anybody with a buggy or children it must be even worse. Basically if you really want to cross there you just have to cross your fingers and go for it. And in my experience, most cars do not slow down going round that corner.
  2. The genie is out of the bottle now. Just one more sign that the world/humanity is going to hell in a handcart. Not that I'm pessimistic about the future at all 🤣
  3. You want to wait for someone to die? Nice. Obviously data isn't kept on "near misses". If you are crossing from the side where the entrance to the woods is, there is no view of vehicles coming from the Forest Hill direction until they have come at great speed round the corner. For years I have walked up to the bus stop on that side of the road up the hill to get a bus, rather than risk crossing the road at that junction to go to the much nearer bus stop outside the old Harvester. See Insuflo's post above!
  4. Really? I thought they worked on a percentage? But it's a long time since I moved house!
  5. To be fair, I've only ever seen one "incident" on a bus round here, it was years and years ago and it wasn't between the Elephant and ED. I'd much rather travel on a bus late at night than the underground or train. And the changing drivers thing is a pain anywhere! The Elephant will be a mess till all the work in the area is finished, I guess, but even so it's a much more pleasant area to walk around than it used to be.
  6. To be fair (and I know absolutely nothing about what is involved in roadworks etc) they have said exactly what they are doing and within what time period for each stage of the work. I imagine they are doing a load of necessary work in one go rather than have several separate periods of inconvenience and having to keep taking down and putting up signs, barriers etc? That junction is presently a death trap in waiting for pedestrians, so I am delighted there is finally going to be a crossing there, regardless of the inconvenience before it is completed. I'm sure there is somewhere you can complain if you think the total time period is excessive? MP? Councillors? TfL? Mayor?
  7. I'd much rather just sit on one bus from the Elephant to ED, however slow, than get a train to DH and then have to get another bus! But each to their own, obviously! I'm old and lazy these days! Isn't there only one exit now from the Elephant, or have I dreamed it?! I thought that if you come out of the tube station at the Elephant and turn right there is a bus stop very nearby? However not all the buses to ED come down that road.
  8. No. It starts and stops from the TCR end of Charing Cross Road, and has done for years now, unfortunately.
  9. That's a bit bonkers, have I misunderstood? I thought estate agents made more money if the house sold for a higher price? Is that not the case? How can they be working for the buyer if they are supposed to be "employed" by the seller?
  10. Why do you think it is pompous? I thought it was a really nice post. And all true. Paitro's post, not the original article, in case that's not clear!
  11. Beansprout, I think that's quite unfair. I was only trying to help. How was I to know you had your phone checked out last week? I thought I was making a useful suggestion. It's good that you have now eliminated that possibility. What I couldn't understand is, if it is an iD (and hence 3) issue, and the connection all over London is as bad as you are experiencing, then everybody using iD or 3 would be having exactly the same problems. I hadn't seen any publicity, so I just googled. It seems that reception in central London and other densely populated areas is a known problem with 3/iD, so I must just be lucky. Though none of the posts I could find were recent. I hope you have better luck with a different provider.
  12. Did you see my post above where iD suggested to someone else with your problems that it could be a sim or device issue? Why are you so sure it isn't your phone that has developed a fault? Phones can and do go wrong (reinstalling the app would not help if your phone itself is faulty). To test this out: Have you tried your SIM card in somebody else's phone? If they don't have connection problems, then the fault is with your phone (though see below - your SIM card could be faulty, in which case this test wouldn't work). Have you tried somebody else's SIM card in your phone? If you still have the same connection problems, then the fault is with your phone. Both of those tests would tell you if the problem was with your phone rather than the network. Only if the connection problems continued would the problem probably be with the iD network. Have you asked for another SIM card to try out (with the same phone number, obviously!) in case your SIM card has become faulty? Have you tried their live chat (link above) which they say can help with further troubleshooting? These things would be quite quick and easy to do, and could save you a lot of time and inconvenience changing providers!
  13. The 12 is ok but it goes all round the houses via Peckham, unless you get another bus and change to the 12 somewhere after Camberwell Green (if you can be bothered!) Also the earlier you get on the 12, the more likely the front seats at the top will be free 🤣 Yes, it's a pain having to trek up to TCR to get the 176. Oxford Street is a very long street! It was very convenient when the 176 went to Oxford Circus. But Regent Street was closed for ages for some kind of works (?gas? Water?) I don't know if it's opened again. So it was better to get the tube to Oxford Circus. Also, the 12 used to go to Notting Hill. I had a friend who lived there and we could go straight through to and from ED on one bus. And the 37 used to go to Richmond. Various ways to get there now, but they all involve at least one change. I suppose we should be grateful for a public transport system at all, rather than moaning (in my case) about it!
  14. Yes, my brother lived in that area and had to change to something other than Vodafone. He didn't just have a "weak" signal. He had no signal at all.
  15. Apparently it is a very old and ill cat and about to be "euthanised" - euphemism. My understanding is that it wasn't actually lost, just wandering around near its home as cats do, but people thought it was lost because the poor thing looked so terrible. The owner was tracked down, but only after loads of posts from people trying to catch it and take it to various places for stray cats. I got my information from the "other" East Dulwich Forum, but I've got no reason to believe it isn't true. Irrelevant, but my partner and I once took a very thin and ill looking cat to Celia Hammond because it kept coming into my house for weeks and looked terrible, and we (wrongly) assumed it had no home. That cat also turned out to have an owner. And yes it was ill, but being treated by a vet. It's lovely that people care about animals, but it's very easy to make mistakes like this. Having said which, many years ago when our cat died, a couple of days later another cat started sitting on our doormat every day (three floors up in a Scottish tenement) and refused to leave, so eventually we took him in ......
  16. Not sure that would do A3 colour copying, but I might be wrong. Last time I was there, admittedly a long time ago, they just did A4. Actually, I have a vague memory that Oru might do photocopying, no idea if they do A3 though.
  17. We did check our journey. The train supposed to be going to East Dulwich at whatever the time was didn't go there. It went straight to Tulse Hill. Other people were stranded as well. There was no explanation. And when we asked staff when the next train was, it was in something like forty minutes' time. If memory serves, unless you want a fairly long walk round the corner to the bus stop in Walworth Road where both the 176 and 40 stop, since the modernisation the nearest bus stop to the Elephant station exit is only for the176, not the 40? I don't find the area a problem since they did away with the underpasses. I actually prefer going to Oval because although there's only the 185, the bus stop is just opposite the station exit, and there's a bus shelter. Also the bus journey is shorter than that from the Elephant. Yes a bus to Camberwell would have been an option, that was why we tried to get a 35 from London Bridge, which after we had waited for ages sailed past the bus stop full. There are many more options once at Camberwell than just the 185, though of course the 185 is coming from a different direction. But once at Camberwell you have the 40, 176, 185 or 484 to East Dulwich. I wasn't aware of any trains to Herne Hill from London Bridge, thanks, I will check it out, though it seems a bit of a long way round!
  18. Does the printing place just off Bellenden Road not do it? Can't remember what they're called, but you go down Ady's Road from Goose Green and turn right, and they are on the left. ETA: QuickPrint. End of Oglander Road. I just googled it. They are just round the corner from the shop in the screenshot. https://quick-print.org.uk/contact-us/
  19. Excellent! Another one to add to our Saturday charity shop crawl! Which charity?
  20. Sadly I think if a previous petition had no effect, things are unlikely to be different now. Whatever the reason was for changing the route presumably is still the same? Do you know what it was? TfL must have had data to back it up, surely? It can't have been just a random Friday afternoon decision made out of the blue to cause maximum inconvenience to people from East Dulwich trying to get to and from London Bridge/Guys without having to change buses when there are problems with the trains?
  21. No chance of the 40 route being changed back now, I'm sure. But the trains should have been running, though delayed, according to the Google maps info - but it turned out they weren't stopping at East Dulwich. Couldn't get a bus - eventually a 35 turned up but zoomed past full. We could have walked from LB to ED in the time it took us to get back here by public transport.
  22. Absolute nightmare trying to get back to East Dulwich from London Bridge this early evening. Trains all messed up - East Dulwich train not stopping there, fast to Tulse Hill - buses all messed up, got tube to Oval then 185 apparently due in 1 minute for about ten minutes didn't arrive. Still in transit after about an hour. Can't find any explanation online. Does anyone know what's wrong, or are we just very very unlucky?
  23. Surely it shouldn't take 7 days for a prescription to be ready? Have they said why? Is it because the specific medication isn't readily available? This was a while ago now, but I had terrible problems when I needed an urgent prescription for an antibiotic eye cream (for an ulcer on my eye) and couldn't get it anywhere. But surely this can't be the reason if they have a general notice up saying allow 7 days? Are they short staffed? Are GPs aware of this? Does this 7 days apply to everything, no matter how urgent?
  24. I've found Vale Pharmacy to be good. My only issues were due to problems with the wholesalers, not with the actual pharmacy.
  25. Yes! I moved here around that time, and you certainly wouldn't have gone to the Uplands (now the Actress) for a quiet Friday night 🤣
