For avoidance of doubt, this is what we need: Outdoor stage large enough for a four or five piece band Cover for stage Appropriate PA with sound desk and speakers for an outdoor event Cover for PA Somebody to dig channel in Goose Green turf for cables and cover in again Generator or some other means of power Transport to and from Goose Green Stage crew to erect and dismantle stage Sound technician Appropriate mics, mic stands, cables, DI boxes etc (I presume these would be included with the PA but if not we have some we can provide) If you have some ideas as to possible providers, please PM me, that would be great, thanks :)
  2. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Perhaps they will be identical when the renovation > is complete! xxxxxx Hopefully not, because the imitation Concrete House behind the original one is hideous :))

We have our own PA system and have access to others, but for an outside event we need something much more powerful (sorry, I realise I'm assuming yours wouldn't be. It would be great if you could PM me details) - plus a generator. The stage is problematical because it needs adjustable legs for use on uneven ground, plus it needs to be waterproof. We have a modular stage which somebody very kindly built for us recently for use at our concerts Upstairs at the Dog, but because it is neither waterproof nor has adjustable legs it would not be suitable for Goose Green. We also need a cover for the stage in case of rain, cover for the sound desk etc ditto, transport for everything and a sound technician experienced in outdoor events (our Goose sound guy is fantastic, but is a perfectionist and does not want to attempt to do the sound for an outdoor event of this size). ETA: We have now exhausted all our personal contacts and - as said above - the commercial rate for everything we need is prohibitive. ETA: I hasten to add my OH Nygel is also involved in this, I'm not doing it all on my own :))
  4. Just two of several previous threads about the Concrete House and the (non) identical building behind it: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,185836,943736#msg-943736 http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,410066,page=1

I have PMed you.

  7. But this has been known for ages. The people doing it have a website about it. There's at least one thread on the forum about it. I think it's great it's becoming housing association flats, personally.
  8. If you PM me I can explain the situation further.
  9. Admin, apologies if this is in the wrong section and if so please move, but for obvious reasons we'd like as many people as possible to see this ASAP. The Goose Is Out! ( http://www.thegooseisout.com ) has provided the music at the Dulwich Festival Fair on Goose Green for the past two years. We and all the musicians give our time for free (well, water and a few cans of Stella :) ) and the only cost to the festival organisers is the hire of the stage, PA and sound technician. This year we have experienced huge difficulty in finding an outdoor stage/PA to hire at a price which the festival can afford. We have been looking since October and have exhausted the options which we know about. This is now getting time-critical as the Fair is on Sunday 12 May and we can't book musicians unless/until we have a stage (although we are now looking at options without a stage!). Can anybody out there help? If so, please PM me if either you have a stage/PA to hire or you know somebody who does - thanks!

And was there then a difference depending on whether the free rat was male or female??

  13. Annette Curtain Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I wonder how Sue is progressing with her rat > purchase ? xxxxxx Why, do you think I should set it free to gnaw these "artists"?

  16. I think I'm going to go for it. Will do a bit more research first though. According to the pet shop in North Cross Road they eat a mixture of rabbit and hamster food? Hey, maybe I could teach it to do a rat version of the Hamster Dance :) Saw a woman with a rabbit on a lead on the tube at the weekend ..... thought that was a bit cruel as it was rather crowded.
  17. There is already a thread on this somewhere but I don't know what key words you'd use to do a search.
  18. I am (seriously) considering having a rat as a pet. Precipitated by buying two excellent books at the hospice shop on "training your pet rat" for a mere 50p each :) Rats seem to be both affectionate and intelligent. Does anybody have one? Pros and cons (apart from the gnawing aspect)? Long ago I knew somebody who took his rat shopping in his coat pocket :))
  19. Thanks so much to the complete stranger who yesterday afternoon stopped to help when he saw us struggling to load a very large and heavy dresser into a car it only just fitted into. You were an absolute star.

  21. Lagoa, that's made my day. What an incredible story. ETA: I suppose the police wouldn't bother fingerprinting the things?
  22. James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > But for East Dulwich crime is markedly up and this > is probably due to our Safer Neighbourhood Team > being abstracted (told to work elsewhere) from our > area. xxxxxxx I have been in correspondence with you before about the total lack of response when our road (Ulverscroft Road) was asked to take part in a Neighbourhood Watch scheme via flyers put through our door. It must have been well over a year ago now, possibly two years! I replied saying I would like to be involved, and despite chasing them several times, including via you (thanks) never heard any more about it. Not helpful, is it. Who runs Neighbourhood Watch schemes? I believe it is the police. So why did they just let it drop? ETA: And Penguin 68, you're absolutely right about the insurance issue. That was the point I was trying to make earlier about using stats from insurance companies as a basis for comparing areas' burglary rates, but you've made it much better than me.
  23. I have no idea who Joe Grint is, but anyway apparently this was pinched off him according to Facebook. And hey it's about Waitrose. Pinched off Joe Grint x UK supermarket chain Waitrose has withdrawn its popular ?essential? range after discovering that the cut-price products had led to a number of poor people shopping there. The discount brand, launched in 2009 to help Waitrose?s core customer base cope with the recession without having to downgrade one of their Range Rovers, was proving extremely successful. This success appears to have come at a price though, with the unwanted side effect of attracting the working class. ?At first it worked fine, our regular shoppers were delighted with the new range, and common people were still put off by the Waitrose branding? explained marketing director Rupert Thomas, ?but as we advertised more, and made the mistake of including the prices of products in our TV commercials, we began to see some undesirable characters appearing in our aisles, enticed in by the prospect of finding a tin of beans for under ?5, which they previously hadn?t expected from us. One horrid man even came in wearing a Hi-Vis vest looking for a sandwich. It was awful.? The popularity of the ?essential? range had seen it quickly expand to include affordable versions of many foodstuffs and household items. To make matters worse Waitrose also starting pointing out that many of their prices were the same as those found in Tescos, attracting even more lower class shoppers and alienating many of their existing clientele. ?It was so demeaning finding out that I wasn?t paying any more for my groceries than a common chav? moaned former Waitrose customer Emily Hamilton-Brown. ?I?ve gone back to doing my weekly shop at Fortnum & Mason now, just to make sure I don?t accidentally purchase something that?s buy-one-get-one-free.? ?Hopefully withdrawing the products and stopping the adverts will stop any additional commoners coming in,? continued Mr Thomas, ?but we still have the problem of getting rid of the ones that have already started shopping with us. They?re still turning up, wandering around looking a bit lost and not buying anything. We?re thinking of putting up signs outside pointing out that Lidl down the road has some great deals on, or maybe we?ll just put down some traps baited with chicken nuggets so we can catch them humanely and release them in Asda.?
