Sorry to say this, but if the thief's story is true (and why would he leave stuff in a bush?), then whoever found the stuff in the bush was either honest or dishonest. If he or she was honest, then they would have handed the stuff in to the police immediately (or very soon afterwards) or at least reported that they had found it. If he or she was dishonest, then they would have kept it or disposed of it for money, and aren't very likely to respond to an appeal for its return, on Twitter or not. I really really hope you get it back, Bunty, but I don't think the chances are too high unfortunately :-S

I had a long discussion about this with the Energy Saving Trust, who gave me useful information over the phone and if memory serves also sent me some info (though it might have come from their website). Energy Saving Trust I think, however, that what you have been told by British Gas is more or less what the Energy Saving Trust told me. I therefore chose only to have the parts of my loft insulated where I didn't need storage space. I did have a major clear-out of my loft before I had the insulation done though! The EST said that stuff stored above the existing boarded part of the loft (where there was a less deep layer of existing insulation below them than was being laid elsewhere) would act as insulation there anyway. The EST may be able to tell you if it is true re the potential condensation and rot, but if so, I suppose one option you have if you need storage space but don't want to do what British Gas suggested is to remove the insulation that has just been laid, replace it with thinner insulation, and replace your boards. Then if you are storing stuff on top this will insulate the floor anyway (apart from gangways where you need to tread). Good luck with sorting it all out - what a pain. Did British Gas not come and do a survey before they carried out the insulation? If so, they should have explained all this to you then. ETA: The British Gas system may be different, but with the government grant for insulsation, in theory, you have to have a certain (quite large) percentage of your loft covered with the "proper" depth of insulation in order to qualify for the grant.

Well if anybody is desperate to sort the matter out, the council will know. Assuming they still have a Parks Department.

Happened to me once when a bird flew down a chimney and sadly died because the fireplace was blocked up and by the time I'd phoned the RSPB to see what to do about it it was too late. A few days (if memory serves) later loads of large black flies filled the room, mainly as someone says above, around the window. I didn't think much of it at first but then there were more and more of them. Eventually I found that they were coming out of air holes in the fireplace, presumably from hatched out maggots in the bird (sorry). It was my bedroom, as well. It was really disgusting. I sellotaped over the airholes and I could see their vile little legs moving about behind. So afraid I do think you may well have a corpse somewhere - but the good news is the flies should eventually disappear ....

I saw somebody up a step ladder inside the other day - in the "new" bit.

The newly built house at the Crystal Palace Road end of Ulverscroft Road has a green roof, or part of it does. I saw the turves (well not turves but you know what I mean) outside before it was installed, but I don't think you can see it from the street. You could try asking the occupants about it. There's loads of info online if you google "Green Roof". eg this website (apparently they're based at/part of the University of Sheffield) http://www.thegreenroofcentre.co.uk/green_roof_code/wildlife_roof_design_guidance

Usually in parks the gates are closed one at a time, because the same person does it, so they can't close them all at the stated closing time.

Lovely picture!

Crikey, ?1000 ??? I don't think Admin could start making exceptions to the rules for certain posts, could they? Otherwise there would be no point in having the rules.

A vary poor service royal mail(no > capitals you dont deserve them) xxxxxxxx But did you report these missing packages to Royal Mail? Obviously if they don't know about things going missing, how can they try to identify a pattern, narrow the field of possible suspects and then do something about it? Clearly - they can't.

herrd Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > the odd grumpy old sow won't result in any pub > closures. > xxxxxxxx Well it's resulted in restrictions to Jamie's license, which is likely to impact on his custom I would have thought. It seems extremely unfair to me when so many people wrote in support of him, compared to the grumpy old sow in question who could only drum up the support of two or three others, after quite a protracted campaign apparently.

Jamie had already soundproofed the bar as much as possible as a result of this woman's constant complaints. And had put up signs asking people to be considerate of neighbours when leaving etc.. It's hard to see what more he could have done. Why this woman bought a house near a pub when most houses for sale are not near a pub is a mystery to me. Maybe she wants it closed down so that she can buy it? Who knows.

But I was rather older than a teenager at the time and telephone boxes didn't loom large in my life :))

Hey thanks Huguenot! I only heard it quite briefly on each occasion as they shot up into the air very quickly - so only a fraction of that!

Jah Lush Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It's hard to smoke with a gag in your mouth Sue. > :)) xxxxxxx Oh yeh, duh :-$ And yes I agree re the people who complained (less than a handful, stirred up by one vindictive person). Move near a pub and then complain when it goes about its business. C****.

Thank God I don't smoke any more - where are smokers supposed to go after 11pm? Or is Jamie going to issue them all with gags so that they smoke in complete silence? The mind boggles ....

Hi CameronMac I just got that email too and was about to post the same thing - thanks! Bit of a mixed decision I think as the views of the minority seem to have taken precedence over the views of the majority. But better than it might have been I suppose. Is either side appealing, do you know?

Minkey, you could try using those eco-friendly washing balls on a cold water rinse/wash? I use them now for all my washing, and if something comes out still grubby I only then wash it with soap. I must be saving a fortune not using hot water (well that's my theory!) You need to use something that will retain the oil in the wool, don't you? Otherwise it will go all horrid. I think :)) ETA: If you don't have any, let me know if you want to borrow mine.

Off topic, but when I first heard a skylark I knew immediately what it was - that's probably the most distinctive bird song I've ever heard :) Only heard it twice though, once in Sussex on the downs, once on the Malvern Hills.

Anyone know what the outcome of Hoopers license review today was? Sorry, I know it's off topic but it was discussed on this thread and I don't want to start a new thread just to ask that :-$
