ED is a good place xxxxxx Seconded! I've been burgled whilst in bed in Topsham (Devon), had my car broken into in Ditchling, car stolen in Stanmer (both near Brighton), car broken into in Dundee, purse nicked at London Bridge station etc etc Stuff happens everywhere.

I guess they would also have thought they had a "hard core base" of customers.
  4. I think they're all bloody weird :)) But also very wonderful :)) ETA: Hal, I'm not sure I would describe number 49 as weird, more - er - well, I can't find the words really :)) But hey, these photos have made me realise that actually my family is quite normal :)):)):))

As long as they keep the name and not any > "Actress" nonsense I hope it's a success. xxxxxx The name of The Actress was suggested by somebody on this forum :) It goes with The Bishop (geddit?) We are lucky they didn't go with their original intention of calling it something like The Village Inn - I think it was :)) When people protested about that name, it was thrown open to suggestions. The name of the CPT had already changed from The Crystal Palace Tavern, anyway.
  7. Am I going mad? I thought this thread was in the lounge? In fact I thought I had posted on it!
  8. I notice that @thegooseisout is conspicuous by its absence on your long list, The MidlifeManual :-$ Check us out at www.thegooseisout.com You might find at least one event out of the zillions we have coming up of interest, maybe the 2 - 9pm fundraising event for Dulwich Community Garden on Sunday 22 January with Wizz Jones, The Dulwich Ukulele Club and five other top local acts?? (shameless plug for the garden and the gig there, hope admin will allow it here as it's for a community event!) :)-D
  9. A few years back I helped a friend with a boot sale to raise money (for SCOPE) for her sponsored trip to Machu Picchu. We both got rid of quite a lot of unwanted stuff plus other friends also donated stuff. Can't remember how much it raised but it was quite a considerable amount. You just have to watch for people nicking things (yep - even when she had a big banner saying it was all for charity).

And almost certainly not a woman, unless they have a funnel :))
  11. This scam has been around for years, don't know if it's still the same people. They were operating round here when I moved here 20 years ago! My then partner, being very soft-hearted, was duped into buying some rubbish tea towels. There have been threads on the forum before, but thanks for warning us that these people are around again.
  12. Also on Ulverscroft Road, my clock radio was flashing this morning. The other one was OK but I think it has a built-in battery to protect against power cuts, so Craigy maybe that is why one of yours was OK.

  14. James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > As for te architectural meritso f te building - it > is listed. I think it's great that there's someone willing to take it on.
  15. Minkey, I agree, I think this is really worrying, assuming it's true. If any chemical is "getting into the water", let alone enough of it to cause this kind of smell in people's houses, I'd be wanting to know what the chemical was, what its potential effects on health were, and why the water company had not let people know about it. As I (apparently) wasn't affected, it's not something I would want to take up, but maybe somebody else would? I disagree that it's too late to report it (or to ask those questions) for those people who were affected.
  16. WrightC Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Or you can try > Kings at 7.30am, I have also gone to Kings at this > time and was out within 20 minutes. Hope this > helps. xxxxxxx When I was looking up the opening hours before going for my blood test, I noticed that Kings place restrictions on who can go to their department when, and if you turn up on the wrong day they say you will be sent away. See here! Here's an extract: The Phlebotomy Department provides blood tests on a walk-in basis. We carry out a wide range of tests including testing for lipids, cholesterol, triglycerides, gut hormones, fasting blood sugar, malaria and drug monitoring. The department is based on two sites: King?s main site, where we see mainly patients who are referred by the hospital; and Dulwich Community Hospital, where we see patients referred by their GP. Patients referred by King?s College Hospital Please attend the Phlebotomy Department, King?s College Hospital, Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 4.45pm. Patients referred by their GP The Phlebotomy Department operates a satellite unit at Dulwich Community Hospital providing a blood test service primarily for GP patients. The unit operates Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 4.45pm. GP patients may attend the Phlebotomy Department, King?s College Hospital for tests only on Tuesdays, 12.30 to 4.45pm, and Fridays, 7.30am to 12.30pm. GP patients attending King's Phlebotomy Department outside these hours will not be seen except for those with specialised tests (see below).
  17. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does anyone know what is planned for > the patch of derelict land next to Dulwich > hospital? xxxxxxx It's going to be a community garden - see the thread in this section :)
  18. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I have to say, I've never seen a mobility scooter > parked outside the CPT. xxxxxx There's a guy who regularly drinks at The Actress who has a mobility scooter, don't know if he also goes to the CPT.
  19. Jonny van and Dulwich Deviant in particular, :)):)):))
  20. I love bronze fennel, and the flowers are a much nicer shade of yellow than the ordinary green fennel, I think. The running order at the gig has been slightly amended at Wizz Jones' request so that we end on a louder note with the No Frills Band :) so I've edited my post above accordingly. :)-D

Don't think much draught comes through there anyway though, luckily.
  22. Yes there may well be :) But the one I had fitted your description and was working in the next cubicle to somebody who fitted your description of Carl (although I should imagine being very friendly is part of the job, so that could have been somebody else too as I didn't see his name badge, only said hello briefly as I went in and then later heard him talking through the curtain). I wasn't trying to make anything of it, Peckham Rose, I was just offering a different experience to the one you had had. ETA: And as you didn't give the woman's name, it seems somewhat unfair as anybody reading your post would be avoiding all women in that department answering to your description - including my very friendly and gentle one.

  24. monica Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Tickets for the Goose is out Fundraiser are > available on their website > http://www.thegooseisout.com/ xxxxxxx You can click through directly to the ticket site from this link: www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout There is also a link from our website if you want to check it all out before buying your ticket - see below! Artists appearing are: 2pm - Rob Anderson And Friends 3pm - Fran McGillivray & Mike Burke 4pm - THE DULWICH UKELELE CLUB 5pm - Joe Wilkes 6pm - The John McLean Band 7pm - WIZZ JONES 8pm - The No Frills Band For lots of info about the artists (and the day), see www.thegooseisout.com There is a 50p booking fee if you buy tickets online, so you may prefer to buy your ticket at a Goose gig or from Health Matters, and donate the booking fee to the garden! All proceeds from this fundraising day will be going directly to the Community Garden. Everybody involved is giving their time for free, including Wizz Jones and all the other musicians, to whom we are extremely grateful. ?5 (Under 12s are FREE) is an absolute bargain for seven hours of top quality music, so we hope that if you can afford it you will wish to donate more :) Once you have your ticket you are free to come and go as you wish all day! Oh, and please note - this day is inside in the warmth of DHFC, not outside in the garden itself :) Edited AGAIN to say: There will be hot food, hot drinks, a cake stall and a raffle - and the bar will be open all day with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available, including real ale. Hic. Also - children are very welcome (and FREE if they're under 12!) although we have planned the day assuming that people with smaller children may particularly wish to come in the afternoon. :)-D
  25. It's faster than the speed of light tonight :)) Don't think it could have been my connection, Pickle, as every other site I was on earlier today the speed was fine.
