  2. My O level Latin won't run to translating that, John, can we have a translation please? Est Dilewiche, eh?

And the staff are helpful. You do have to check your receipt, but I doubt it's the shop itself which causes the price charged at the till to be different from the one on the shelf (strange it always seems to be higher). Would the prices be put in centrally, somehow?
  4. alice Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > how much money does southwark get from this deal? xxxxxxx My first thought too. If they've already signed the contract, is there any point in approaching the planning officer? how many of these are they going to be putting up? I don't have huge objections to one outside the station (though I might do if I lived opposite it) but I'm not too keen if they're going to be all down Lordship Lane.

  7. Not sure if this is the right place to put this thread, so please move it Admin if not. I found out by chance at a council-run event that London residents can get loads of energy-saving freebies under This Scheme I just had somebody come to my house and amongst other things fit a brush letterbox thing (that'll please the postie when he tries to shove the letters through), water-saving tap aerators, radiator panels (for rads next to outside walls) to reflect heat back into the room, a powerdown device for the telly and an electricity display monitor (already had one but never got round to fitting it). They will also provide things like chimney balloons but didn't have them available today. The guy who did all my stuff is called Dennis Ricketts and his phone number is 07960 152486. He can sort out an appointment directly (he gets paid per home done). Alternatively you can call Climate Energy directly on 0800 054 6814 to arrange an appointment, provided you are a Southwark resident. This is different to the number shown on the website, but it's the one I used and I got straight through without any problems. Apparently the home energy experts are also knocking on doors to offer the service. There is a letter (which I don't recall ever having had through the post) signed by Cllr Barrie Hargrove (he who was responsible for the blue bins :)) ) and it's all above board. However personally I would rather make an appointment than let in somebody who just knocked at my door .....

Is this where the old fireplace shop used to be?
  10. tallulah71 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > does the Oxtube go through Woodstock? xxxxxxx No, that's on the A40 the other side of Oxford isn't it? The Tube goes through Headington and then into the city centre. ETA: Thanks for the driving advice - maybe my hideous experience in traffic jams around the embankment blinded me to the fact that overall the journey was quicker, so I will deffo try it again :)

Minimum time > crossing London, maximum time on motorway. The A40 > route has far more traffic and traffic lights - > always slow. xxxxxx What's your preferred route to the M4 from ED? Maybe I'll try that next time. What would you say your average time from ED to Oxford was? I realise it depends on traffic, time of day etc..

KidKruger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ?1.8m split between the partners and shareholders > etc. is probably not a huge amount. > I have to wonder whether the same thread would > have been started if it was "Dr. Gordon" xxxxxxx Yes, and referring to Dr Gupta as "Gupta" as one poster has done also strikes me as discourteous to say the least.
  13. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You used to be able to get direct trains from ED > to East Croydon xxxxxx You still can. Or at least, unless my OH and I were both dreaming, we made a return trip to East Croydon from South Bermondsey last night, and the train passed through East Dulwich on both the outward and return journeys. The trains run every half hour on a Sunday night. And extremely useful we found them too :)
  14. DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > James, the initial bags were Free. In the original > Blurb (which I have lost) was a order form > for more bags. It would seem they are NOT Free. > xxxxxxxxx I am pretty sure (though I'd need to double check) that somewhere in the council blurb it says that the council has provided two rolls of bags which they expect to last a year, and that if you need more than that during that time to let them know. The only thing I have seen which implied something wasn't free was a leaflet inside the brown kitchen bin giving prices for filters etc. but I'm sure that was put in there by the bin manufacturer rather than the council.
  15. I've been registered at DMC for years, and I've always got straight through to reception (during their opening hours) whenever I've phoned - unless it's engaged when they're busy first thing in the morning with people calling for appointments that day. It's not exactly credible that an East Dulwich GP's surgery would use an Indian call centre, or indeed a call centre at all, is it?
  16. I've tried various ways and always come back to the routes I use. I have been stuck in dreadful traffic on the Embankment when I tried that way :) During congestion charge times I go Vauxhall - Victoria - Park Lane - Edgware Road - A40. Otherwise I go Elephant - Waterloo - underpass - Euston - A40. Sometimes the traffic is worse than others, obviously, but unless there are holdups on the motorway due to accidents or roadworks, I can usually get from ED to the Cowley Road in about an hour and a half or just over. ETA: Re the bus, there is a stop nearer to where the 185 terminates. I think the road is called Grosvenor Place, it certainly becomes that road further up (it's the road going up to Hyde Park Corner) and the stop is opposite a little green. The only disadvantage of catching it there is that because it's the second stop, if you like to sit at the top front, those seats are always taken by people who have got on at the first stop! But crikey, by the time you've got to Victoria and then waited for the bus, and then got from the bus stop in Oxford to wherever it is you're going, you've lost the will to live. Though admittedly you can read on the bus, or use the WiFi.
  17. My daughter and grandchildren live in Oxford. The train is a nightmare, and you have to go to Paddington to get it. There are two bus companies running coaches to Oxford, both starting from Victoria. At the Oxford end, they both stop at the Park and Drive, the "other" Oxford University campus, Headington and St Clements, and then in town. But if you are able to drive, it is much much quicker and more convenient, though less ecologically friendly etc.. And you are not likely to have to spend hours waiting for a bus in Oxford after one broke down, as I did once. Afraid I only ever drive now :-S Very easy, either via Park Lane if the congestion charge is in force, or via Euston if not. PM me if you want more details.

Excuse me!!! I am staying with my OH at Packett Mansions, and we have just tonight got a train from South Bermondsey to see Fran McGillivray and Mike Burke play in a pub in East Croydon, AND got a train back from East Croydon to South Bermondsey. South Bermondsey station rocks! And what's more, there is a real sweetie in the ticket office. And btw, what is this company who are apparently sponsoring the ED (and Peckham) station signs? JBM something or other. Who they?
  19. Tickets are already available online at www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout But if you don't want to pay the online booking fee, you can buy tickets from any Goose gig or from local outlets (watch this space!) ETA: I should not be posting at midnight, but hopefully the website address is now correct :)

    Ask Admin

Hey - other party - are you reading this?! Eh! > Are you!? Take that! > > Seriously, the determination to play-out every > facet of this debacle in public is truly alarming. The reason I put it on here is that Admin has been taking some time to read my PMs, and in fact has not read the last two. I'm not complaining about that, I know he's very busy, but I thought if it was on here he would be more likely to respond, which is what has happened. ETA: Although admittedly the query re the driftwood thread was somewhat less urgent :-$
  23. Thanks all.

  25. I haven't seen him post on here for ages, and his mailbox is full. Does anyone know if he's still around and if so how I can get in touch with him?
