  2. Run of bad luck? This is over the last forty or so years !!!!! :)):)):)) PipD Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Or stuff happens to some people Sue! Sounds like > you've had a right run of bad luck there.
  3. Why don't you approach the pubs and ask them? Many are always looking for good live bands which will attract the punters. Hoopers and The Ivy House are two which spring to mind immediately :)
  4. Surely this is the same everywhere? I live round the corner from both North Cross Road market and the mosque in North Cross Road. At certain times/days of the week I also sometimes find it difficult to park near my house, and occasionally in my road, if I'm not already parked there. It's just a fact of city life, surely. And probably country life too in certain places, eg near pubs. If you have a pressing need to park near your house, maybe you should move somewhere with off-street parking?

  6. kford Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The smart meter is great. I had the microwave, > washer, oven and kettle on the other day and it > nearly exploded. xxxxxx To my eternal shame, I've had mine sitting on a shelf since Dennis came, and haven't even checked out any readings yet :-$ Sorry Dennis, but in my defence I do try to turn lights and stuff off when they're not in use :-$

  8. Well I like it, and I'm happy for some of my tax to go towards restoring it. :)
  9. My brother and his partner had naming ceremonies for their children. I'm not sure where they got the last person they used, but she mis-pronounced one of the children's names throughout the whole ceremony! Although apparently they had met her beforehand and talked the whole thing through with her including the names! Jennyh, had you considered just making up your own ceremony and doing it yourselves? It would be very personal then to yourselves and your friends.

    Laser eye surgery

I know this isn't what you're asking, but had you considered soft varifocal contact lenses? I have monthly ones, and I find them excellent. My vision is very good with them except in very dim lighting, when I find reading difficult, and they're really comfortable to wear and easy to maintain. I eke them out for a lot longer than a month as when I'm not going out I slob around the house in glasses :)) I go to the Institute of Optometry to get the prescription, but I get the actual lenses cheaply off the internet (exactly the same make etc as I would get if I paid a lot more for them). I'm interested to know with the laser surgery (I'm far too squeamish to have it done) - what happens when your vision changes as you get older? Do you have to keep on having more surgery every few years? Does it scar?
  11. I can hopefully say this without being accused of having a vested interest, as I don't sell them any more, but a magnotherapy wristband worked for me - I originally got it to sort my arthritic aches and pains (which it did) and it sorted my migraines as well. I hadn't realised it had until I suddenly became aware that I hadn't had a migraine for months (now years - apart from very very very rarely). You need a strong one though, not a cheap wishy-washy one. One of my customers (I started selling them after I had had such good results) had had severe migraines since she was a child, and after she started wearing a wristband, she hardly had any, just the occasional one when she was extremely stressed. ETA: I gave a three month money-back unconditional guarantee, and only had two or three back the whole time I sold them - and of those, clearly one had never actually been worn ....
  12. katie1997 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Er....what time is it?!! xxxxx Five past one, here. And some of them made me laugh out loud for a very long time :))
  13. Lynne Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I've had my car window broken in Kent, my purse > stolen in Bath, my car keyed in Wiltshire, sh=t > happens. ED is a good place xxxxxx Seconded! I've been burgled whilst in bed in Topsham (Devon), had my car broken into in Ditchling, car stolen in Stanmer (both near Brighton), car broken into in Dundee, purse nicked at London Bridge station etc etc Stuff happens everywhere.

  15. motorbird83 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Definite yes! I guess they would also have thought they had a "hard core base" of customers.
  16. I think they're all bloody weird :)) But also very wonderful :)) ETA: Hal, I'm not sure I would describe number 49 as weird, more - er - well, I can't find the words really :)) But hey, these photos have made me realise that actually my family is quite normal :)):)):))
  17. Strawbs Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- it was literally a non second xxxxxx A timeless moment, then? :)

As long as they keep the name and not any > "Actress" nonsense I hope it's a success. xxxxxx The name of The Actress was suggested by somebody on this forum :) It goes with The Bishop (geddit?) We are lucky they didn't go with their original intention of calling it something like The Village Inn - I think it was :)) When people protested about that name, it was thrown open to suggestions. The name of the CPT had already changed from The Crystal Palace Tavern, anyway.
  19. Am I going mad? I thought this thread was in the lounge? In fact I thought I had posted on it!
  20. I notice that @thegooseisout is conspicuous by its absence on your long list, The MidlifeManual :-$ Check us out at www.thegooseisout.com You might find at least one event out of the zillions we have coming up of interest, maybe the 2 - 9pm fundraising event for Dulwich Community Garden on Sunday 22 January with Wizz Jones, The Dulwich Ukulele Club and five other top local acts?? (shameless plug for the garden and the gig there, hope admin will allow it here as it's for a community event!) :)-D
  21. A few years back I helped a friend with a boot sale to raise money (for SCOPE) for her sponsored trip to Machu Picchu. We both got rid of quite a lot of unwanted stuff plus other friends also donated stuff. Can't remember how much it raised but it was quite a considerable amount. You just have to watch for people nicking things (yep - even when she had a big banner saying it was all for charity).

    Yellow fluid

And almost certainly not a woman, unless they have a funnel :))
  23. This scam has been around for years, don't know if it's still the same people. They were operating round here when I moved here 20 years ago! My then partner, being very soft-hearted, was duped into buying some rubbish tea towels. There have been threads on the forum before, but thanks for warning us that these people are around again.
  24. Also on Ulverscroft Road, my clock radio was flashing this morning. The other one was OK but I think it has a built-in battery to protect against power cuts, so Craigy maybe that is why one of yours was OK.
