What is going on at Copleston Road/Grove Vale junction?
Sue replied to burty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It does look like it's being permanently closed off, judging by the raised kerbs they seem to be putting in. I agree this area is an absolute nightmare to navigate around in a car unless you are familiar with the routes via all the one-way streets. -
Just getting this to the top again as some people don't seem to be aware of the thread :)

Is the Colour Thief on Nov 4th going ahead?

andanotherthing Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > > Anway, does anyone have any alternative > suggestions for a blind date this Friday now some > Councillors have put out the fireworks? xxxxxxx There are loads of fireworks still happening. At Brockwell Park and Crystal Palace Park, both within easy reach of East Dulwich, to name just two events. There is a thread on here about them. -
plimsoul Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > but sue your pick up on the posters work after > admin clearly asked people to stop is shameless, > whatever lame reason you put in there for ignoring > the request. xxxxxxxx Excuse me? I felt it was a completely legitimate and relevant post in the circumstances. I do not agree that my reason for posting was "lame". If admin doesn't want certain posts included on this thread, it is up to him to remove them, and/or to admonish the people posting them. He hasn't contacted me regarding that post. And - who has brought the topic up again after many posts since? You have! What hypocrisy! Not to mention that you have also ignored admin's request not to make things personal! So I suggest that you now let this thread go back to being about the subject originally raised, ie babies and prams in pubs :) And yes, before anyone points it out, I am also guilty of going off-topic, but I really couldn't let that comment go, sorry. As you were :)

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Sue replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip

I think we are extremely lucky to have somebody who is willing to take so much trouble over local issues, some of which may appear relatively minor but all of which are important to the person/people they are affecting. Thanks, James. -

The kids, not the buggies. Not a scream or an obstruction in earshot or sight. :)-D

KK, great list, and you've reminded me. * Plane in Burma. One of the last two remaining in the Burmese plane collection. All the others had crashed. When we took off we realised why. Too late. We were the only people on the plane who weren't Burmese, and we were seated at the front with some military top brass. Once we were airborne, I turned round and saw that all the other passengers on the plane were praying :)) We'd had to pay an arm and a leg in bribes to get on the plane in the first place, as well :)) * Oh yeh and Pangandaran in Java. My then partner was witness to the theft of a wallet. The thief tried to pin it on my partner. We spent the whole night at the police station where what seemed like the whole population of Pangandaran was trying to peer in the windows, then the police took the thief round the back of the building, beat him up and let us go :-S

Damian H Wrote: SUch attacks have descended into > what was clearly an attempt to work out a grudge > by identifying and attacking my business > interests. I have no desire to continue to engage > with posters who behave like this. xxxxxx Damian, I think that since you have started a thread on this very forum here one would not have to go far to identify your "business interests." I also think that as that thread indicates that your business specifically involves pregnant women, who are at quite a vulnerable time of their life in some respects, then it is legitimate - and not irrelevant - to question why you have a whole series of quite aggressive (and in some cases childish) posts on this thread, including apparently dissing the actions of local mothers (plus another thread in the lounge headed "Mary Portas - Sexist Old Trout?".) If I was expecting a baby and looking for a hypnotherapist, and saw your business thread, I might well check out your other posts on this forum, which as Helena has said is very easy to do just by clicking on your name. And then - well, I leave you to guess what I would do. Admin, I realise you have asked people not to make personal comments on this thread, but as the other posts are still here, I think it is only fair to point out the above.

DulwichFox Wrote: -- The Actress has no kids menu. xxxxxxxx It doesn't have a separate menu specially aimed at kids, though it sells things like pizza by the slice. It does have an area specifically designated for parents with children (and other customers if they wish, obviously), and another area where children are not allowed to sit.

I had a similar problem with my fridge freezer. I had paid extra to have the doors reversed when it was delivered. When it arrived, the men said they weren't down to reverse the doors and that it should have been done in the factory. They said that I could do it myself but that I would have to lie the fridge freezer on its back to do so. Apart from the fact that no way could I do that myself, as it's quite large and bigger than me, it has components on the back which could be damaged, apart from other possible issues. I phoned John Lewis who said no, they didn't reverse the doors in the factory and that yes, this should have been done on delivery, but they refused to send someone else out to do it. I too noticed that there was no refund until I chased them. That was around six years ago - doors still opening the "wrong" way for the position of the freezer in the kitchen :-S

Spate of burglaries in East Dulwich

lance_elot Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > My new laptop with precious pics that i had erased > the SD card was on there, xxxxxxx I'm so sorry to hear all this, but just to mention, you can get stuff on your laptop (including photos) automatically backed up without even having to think about it. I use Carbonite but there are other providers. It costs about ?35 a year (I think - that might have been an introductory offer) and I consider it's worth it for peace of mind. If your laptop/PC loses all the data or is stolen, or if you get a new laptop, you can just download all the data again from Carbonite. It takes ages to upload all the stuff in the first place, especially if you have a lot of music or photos, but once the initial upload is done the ongoing automatic backup is quick. You can get a fifteen day free trial (don't have to give credit card details) but I don't think the trial period includes music. More information here -
Huggers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > really? this could be so as I was away that middle > week so didnt see collection.....but now rubbish > and kitchen on two different days of same week? it > is very confusing. xxxxxxx Huggers, it's always on the same day (or should be). But one week it's brown and green bin, the following week brown and blue bin. However, the bins are not necessarily collected at the same time, though in theory on the same day. So brown bin every week, green and blue bins alternate weeks. ETA: You should have received a booklet from the council explaining the new system. It had a timetable saying what would be collected when on the back page.

Are you like this in real life, or is it just your forum manner? I'm genuinely interested to know.

Thanks Huguenot. Couldn't do it yesterday anyway as spilled tea over my laptop when surprised by the doorbell and had to let it dry out - how lucky is that that it still (at the moment anyway!) appears to be working :) So - Goodbye John Lewis cookie ...... ETA: Done it, thanks, that was easy (and useful to know for the future).

I've had various problems with John Lewis in the past, including with their so-called "customer service" department, once with a fridge-freezer and once with a dishwasher. Can't bring myself to recount it all again, but it was extremely frustrating each time. I would still use them in preference to places like Comet, but they definitely lost their special place in my heart :)) (And actually what's driving me bloody mad now is that just because I've been on their website, now when I go onto completely unconnected websites I get John Lewis adverts showing stuff I've been looking at online, and I can't find a way to get rid of them (6) Richer Sounds deserved to be top. Lakeland customer service is excellent, but going round one of their stores is like descending into the seventh circle of hell, especially if you have the misfortune to be in Bromley.
