Evie, I suggest you email the councillor whose email address is given in the first post on this thread. At least he will be in no doubt what people think about his rubbish decision re the colour, even if it's too late to do much about it now. ETA: And it might make you feel better!

Katie, thanks for your kind words about the Singaround, it makes it all worth while when people appreciate what we're doing! -

The Minkey Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The superfluous use of 'station' in the > announcement which tells you which stop is coming > up next, i.e 'the next station stop will be > Swindon'. > xxxxxxx That used to drive me mad as well, until I realised that if they said "the next station" only, it didn't mean the train would be stopping there, and if they said "the next stop" only, it could be a stop at a signal. So it does actually make sense to say "station stop", even if it's irritating :)

And East Dulwich has had a high profile "Say NO To Unwanted Bags" campaign. I get the impression that the person concerned was being over-sensitive - perhaps feeling her age herself that day and therefore relating everything to it?

Your post, however, came across as quite nasty, foxtailandfern :-S Pots and kettles spring to mind.

Come to Goose gigs - I'm your age group (upper end!) and we have a wide range of ages coming along from teens to sixty plus. If you don't like folk concerts or clubs, the Singaround is fun - and FREE! People sing all kinds of stuff, not just folk. Everyone is very friendly and you'll soon get to know people, or if you don't we can introduce you to people. :)-D ETA: You don't actually have to sing at the Singaround, you can just come and listen if you like - though most people do seem to weaken and at least join in the choruses :) The next one is on Sunday 13 November, and we are now Upstairs at the Mag (Lordship Lane, corner of Pellatt Road) ETA: Or have you looked here: What's On in East Dulwich ? Loads of stuff going on locally, though I don't suppose any of the organisers keep a note of people's ages :) Depends on what your interests are I guess. Though speaking for myself, I'd hate to hang out only with people of my own age ....... -
We'll be down later today, Monica :) xx

Hisar (I think it was) once put a leaflet round the door headed "Feel yourself in sunny Turkey". I've still got it somewhere. :)) ETA: And not junkmail, but I so wish RimWorld on the Walworth Road hadn't changed its name to HatWorld :)) They could have teamed up with Uranus Pizza, perhaps.

wee quinnie Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Er...isn't that subjective? Had always had good meals there before, but the last one I had was - as you say - sh!te, and I felt bad for having recommended it to people. I think the management changed, or the chef changed, or something - according to one of the waiters at the Dulwich Tandoori, anyway! Edited for typo

the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Maybe TFL are lying ! xxxxxx Well if you look at some of their directions on their journey planner site, they are a bit odd if you know the journey concerned yourself. However the park is quite large and I guess they may be directing you to the other end of it ie not the end that my partner lives. But I don't know which end the fireworks would be. Can't imagine why anyone in East Dulwich would go to South Bermondsey anyway, rather than Brockwell Park or Crystal Palace, both of which are nearer, unless they have a particular wish to boycott events run by Lambeth or whatever council oversees Crystal Palace (Bromley? Croydon?) :)) -

the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thanks sue - I just checked on Journey Planner and > South Bermondsey station is 25 minute walk! > (actually just rechecked! 16 mins of the 25 is a > bus ride) xxxxxx My partner lives opposite the park, and no way is it a 25 minute walk from South Bermondsey station, more like 10 or even less. Depends on which side of the park we're talking about, I suppose. -
Just had 3 people knock on my door re Loft Insulation

Huggers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Had a woman caller re loft insulation. She said > she was from the government. xxxxxxxx Yeh, I think at least one of the four lots of callers I had said that. It's a common ploy, because it makes them seem official and respectable. ETA: And it's a sort of half-truth, because the actual grant itself does come from the government. But, the grant money goes to the private company who she works for, not directly to the householder. -

It's their pushy selling methods that people are objecting to. -
The Woodhouse is too, but no idea if its food/service/atmosphere meet your criteria. They should do - the Christmas Day menu is extortionate :)) ETA: But you can have a lovely walk through the woods on the way or the way back ..... ETA: It's on Sydenham Hill, but the wood route is by far the nicest .....
