Yet there's a cheese stall in the market which must surely be in direct competition with the cheese shop just round the corner in Lordship Lane. The council seems somewhat inconsistent. Which shops have complained? Why should they take precedence for customers? Surely competition is a good thing? I think the more food stalls the merrier, I'd rather the option to buy nice food than overpriced so-called "arts and crafts".
  2. Yeh thanks. Just got it back. I couldn't get into downrightnow either when I tried earlier! GRRRRRRR
  3. Please don't let it be just me :-$

    Christmas party

How many people? The room upstairs at the Mag is good, and I'm pretty sure it's bigger than the one at The Old Nun's Head. You'd have to lay on your own music, but you'd also have to at the Old Nun's Head.
  6. I suddenly can't access my AOL email - is anybody else having problems?
  7. Can you please link to the relevant forum threads, as clearly they may once have been at the top of the page but won't stay there for long? Also, would an internet petition not be quicker and easier for people to sign? xxxxxx ETA: The only CPZ I am aware of that's been raised on this forum is the one affecting parking in the ED Station area - are we now talking about more than that one? Are residents outside the affected zone eligible to object?

  9. 1984 springs to mind :-S

And 25 minutes (sadly, I looked at my watch!) But I agree, very good - and FREE! Though it was a pity there weren't more 37s laid on, after the first one which came didn't even pick people up from the ED bus stop as it was so full, we walked down to the park, but I wonder how many people missed the display due to not being able to get on a bus and not being able to walk.
  11. I went into this shop for the first time yesterday. I was really disappointed. In my opinion it's selling a load of overpriced tat of the sort tourist shops sell in Oxford Street, only more expensive. Plus a load of Camden Market type tat. I can't really see who their customers are going to be round here. Or is the whole of East Dulwich going to decide that they have a gap in their wardrobe which a patchwork Nepalese jacket will just fill?
  12. We anticipate that the fundraiser will be on a Sunday from 2pm to 9pm so hopefully everybody will be able to come, including those with children (under 12s will be free entry) and those who work during the day. We're just sorting out the venue and the date, and once we've done that we will post more information, either on this thread or on a separate thread. :)-D
  13. awilliams123 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Then why are they going off again tonight? xxxxxxxxx Perhaps because for some people it was the only night they had free to have a fireworks party, or whatever they're doing? I'm gobsmacked by this thread, I must admit. It's not like the whole of East Dulwich has been one big noisy all-night party for weeks!
  14. Brockwell Park. Free (I think!) and has been very good in previous years. Starts 8pm apparently.
  15. Monica, Nyge and I will try to call in tomorrow sometime, probably the afternoon - we have a gig at DHFC tonight and will be very late to bed after clearing up :)) If not it will probably be Monday. When would be the best time for you? We're keen to discuss ideas with you, we were talking about various possibilities last night. Did you know Southwark Council have a free one off fundraising special on Wednesday 1st December? It's in John Harvard Library from 9.30pm to 4.45pm. The contact is Catherine, Tel: 020 7525 3645 Fax: 020 8196 2336 Mob: 07960 311 499 [email protected]. Might be worth giving her a ring just to see if it would be useful for you. Places are limited so you'd need to be quick. :)-D
  16. Can the Plough not claim for it on their insurance?
  17. Monica, would you like The Goose Is Out! to hold a fundraising gig for the community garden? We'd be very happy to do that, just let me know and we'll sort something out. We'd need several weeks to get the musicians together, sort a venue and promote the gig, and it's coming up to the Christmas season, so let's speak soon. Always happy to do something to promote community spirit. :)-D
  18. If you phone the council re a missed collection, they are supposed to collect it within 48 hours (I assume not counting weekends).

But what is a "raised entry treatment/raised table"? Is this to slow cars down? Not sure why that would be needed on a corner?

  21. the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Isn't that 'bumping?' xxxxxxx Yes, but it used to be that the forum software recognised the word "bump" and wouldn't let you post if you used it. Maybe things have changed now, but old habits die hard :))
  22. Can't find the relevant bit of James' thread, do you know about what date it was posted? Because what they were doing at the weekend looked pretty permanent to me, so I'd like to check out what's actually happening.
  23. The other brown bins might have been moved out of the way by the first lot of blue/green bin emptying people? Or, yes, the brown bin emptying people might have ignored yours, but if you phone the council now you'll just get a recorded message saying don't report a missed collection unless it still hasn't been collected by 6 (I think it's 6) pm.
  24. I believe they pick up until 6pm so just because it's not gone yet doesn't mean it won't be. The brown waste is picked up by different people from the blue or green waste.
  25. I've had problems with this as well, although I don't have mobility issues (yet!). I really don't understand why bins can't be returned to the places they came from. Surely it takes no more time to do this than to leave them on a pathway completely blocking access into and out of the house?
