Walkie talkie for under a fiver and National Geographic/National Trust childrens' gifts for very little were bargains in my view, especially at three for two, for grandchildren/nephews/nieces birthdays during the year plus next Christmas. I'd have had to have spent money at some point anyway, just over a longer period. But would have been a lot more because the things I bought in Sainsbury's yesterday were so cheap.

If it was even half as good as Ganapati it would still be better than the rest of the Indian restaurants on Lordship Lane ....

I only got mine in July! Seems a bit of a waste of admin time. -

will somebody tell me what is wrong with men!!!! Christmas special!!!
Sue replied to charliecharlie's topic in The Lounge
Touches a nerve in you, charliecharlie, I suspect. Something you don't want to look at in yourself? I think Kate Bush is fine - original. Good for her. -
It was bloody manic around 4pm, place was rammed as was carpark. However, didn't have to queue long. Sadly spent far too much - only went in for some flowers and a bottle of brandy for my stepmother, ended up with a trolley full of reduced/three for two toys etc, however seem to have stocked up for next Christmas :))

Adult vine weevils are horrid pointy-headed beetles, a sort of dark browny-grey colour. They are very hard to kill, usually I wrap them up in a tissue and put them down the loo. They don't do the damage, apart from chewing the edges of leaves (distinctive little rectangular bites) but they lay the eggs which turn into the grubs. The grubs are disgusting, small and white with light brown heads. They hide in the compost, so you would only see them if you were actually looking for them. Nurseries will use a chemical to put in the compost when growing cyclamen etc to ensure that their stock doesn't get decimated by vine weevil, but I don't think it is available to "ordinary" people. In any case it's not a nice chemical. You can buy nematodes (parasite thingies) which will kill the grubs, but they are expensive and I'm not sure they work in the Winter. I have cyclamen in my window boxes, am just resigned to the fact that they will probably succumb at some point, and not only that, I'll have to renew all the compost.

I didn't know these had to be renewed? Thought I had mine for life :)) Edited to add: I read all the info thoroughly and I don't recall anything about having to renew it annually, especially within such a limited timescale? -

Also you have a record of exactly what was said should you need it in the future. Bic, Parcelforce is part of the Post Office, but is nothing to do with Royal Mail, they became separate businesses around 1986/7 ish (AAARRGGHH), at the same time as the counter business also split off.

Can't believe it, have just been briefly out, came back to ANOTHER packet on the doorstep, also Royal Mail delivered. I am still waiting for a packet which is for a Christmas pressie which was posted last week, and now suspect that too was left on the doorstep - and nicked :-S Another stiff complaint to Royal Mail about to be made (6)

As InTexas says, the original 37 route was down Melbourne Grove. I imagine the route was changed because of the congestion caused by a large bus coming down such a relatively narrow two-way street with parked cars. Im can't understand the references to the infrequency of the 37, I use it fairly often and have never had to wait a really long time for one.

mockney piers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I got an external harddrive to back up my photos > and mp3s. > Then i got another one to periodically back that > one up too. > xxxxxxxxx I also back up to an external hardrive, but use Carbonite as well - automatically backs up everything as it's created or edited. Costs around ?30 a year but I consider that worth while for total peace of mind. Have already been able to restore some files I stupidly permanently deleted by mistake (don't ask :-$ )

Might an ioniser work to reduce the smell? They've got them on offer in the pharmacist in North Cross Road at the moment (Lloyds?) Also, might be worth another word with their landlord, because even if he doesn't care at the moment, if they leave, their flat will stink of cigarettes and he won't be able to let it to non-smokers, which will limit his potential tenant market. Good luck - it's a horrible smell, I really sympathise.

Cyclamen are prone to attack by vine weevil grubs, did you look to see if there were any roots left? Edited to add: Usually with vine weevil, the plants look fine then suddenly collapse, usually you then think they must be short of water, but watering them has no effect. What happens is they manage for a while whilst the grubs muunch the roots, but then there comes a point where there aren't sufficient roots left for the plant to take up water, and by then - too late.

SE22 magazine - who in SE22 actually gets it?
Sue replied to sillywoman's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's not actually "full of adverts". Obviously it has some adverts, otherwise how could it be distributed free? Are you sure you're talking about the same magazine, Tarot? -
I have just made the following complaint to Royal Mail via their customer services website: I was away at the weekend. I came home late last night (20 December) to find a Royal Mail delivered packet on my doorstep in full view of - and within easy reach of - passers by. I live in a terraced house with no front garden. Today I have been in all day. I had some post delivered this afternoon, which was put through my letter box and which I retrieved immediately it was delivered. I have just opened my front door (6pm) to find another Royal Mail delivered packet sitting on my doorstep, again in full view of passers by. This is appalling. I have no way of knowing what else may have been left outside my house, and which may have been taken. Why did the postperson today not even bother ringing the bell? Why was a "sorry you were out" card not left yesterday (or Saturday, whenever the first packet was left) and the packet returned to the delivery office? I realise you use casuals over Christmas, but surely you give them some elementary instruction? Surely you vet them for elementary common sense? There have been a number of issues with the post in the East Dulwich area, and I know that our MP has contacted the local delivery office. I will also be letting her know about this, but meantime I would like to know what you intend to do to prevent this happening again, either to me or to my neighbours. Thanks. Sue (Surname)

Steady Eddy, can you please take your personal issues with James Barber somewhere else? I for one am not interested and it's not what this thread is about. Thanks.
