  1. I've had a few dissapointing books recently. Keen to read a good thriller. Anyone read anything stand out recently?
  2. Hello, Just wanted to say welcome to the area. I hope you love it.
  3. Yes. My 3 yr old was a bit scared at the start but liked it. Still sings the songs.
  4. Yes, that's the James referred to in my last message.
  5. Unfortunately none of the 5 businesses with early morning collections have anything in their licenses about when refuse can be collected. Southwark only refer me to the noise and nuisance team meaning I have to call them when there is a noise so they can come an listen to it. But the binmen come and go in ten minutes so that doesn't work for me. I've asked James if there is anything more he can do but it doesn't look promising. It's crazy to me that it's allowed, but it seems it is. Oh well. I was totally expecting loud noises and disturbances living near these premises. I was ready for early deliveries and boisterous people. I can sleep through the sirens and the loud motorbikes. But those darn bin men tooting their horn and emptying glass at 5am is considerably louder than I expected.
  6. Get some double glazed sashes and make sure to tell the guys putting them in to use an external finish internally. If you imagine the outside of Windows, they get rained on constantly and are fine. Same for inside so long as the right mortar is used.
  7. Totally agree. I always avoid that side of the road now. If I do cross there it takes ages and others really risk themselves running across.
  8. Yes the time they didn't take ours and I asked about it, they didn't like something that was in there.
  9. Damn, I thought you had to have the logos and already bought. I know for top ups now. Can they wear black trainers?
  10. Don't know any details but it's called the one o clock club.
  11. Hi, Can boys wear grey joggers or does it have to be school trousers! Does shade of grey matter? Thanks
  12. Yay. Glad to help. It really is the cheapest, simplest solution and works a dream on holiday.
  13. I always get the bus to southbank. Good art, good food. Then if I feel adventurous I walk across embankment and go to wholefoods at Picadilly circus.
  14. I think the problem I have is the bin men are doing a whole stretch of shops. About 5 premises in one go. So a bit harder to contact each one individually. I have emailed Southwark licensing and the ever helpful James Barber. So fingers crossed. Thanks for all your advice.
  15. Thanks guys. Really helpful to know I can maybe change this.
  16. Bin men come every Monday (and some other days) to empty the large shop bins near our house. Bins full of bottles it seems. They do this at 4am. It's driving me insane. Is this normal to do it so early? Do I have right to complain does anyone know?
  17. Ok. I have tried every product on the market. I was obsessive about this. Let me save you a lot of trouble and tell you the best blackout product on the market - tinfoil. Wet your window, cut to shape, it sticks up. Anything else you buy will let light around the edges. Foil always works, it's cheap and it travels well. Just use foil. A good quality one and some cheaper flimsy ones have little speckle holes in them.
  18. Check for old posts because I've read something on this before. You can buy a pack of books from book people and split it for bags. They are a bargain.
  19. Regardless of how you voted in the EU referendum, this petition to overturn the vote is terrifying. Millions of people suggesting it's acceptable to vote and then for that vote not to matter. Do they even understand what they are suggesting? If this vote were to be overturned, any vote could be overturned. It would be setting a scary precedent. Voting itself would become totally pointless. There seems to be a common feeling that those who voted Remain are somehow intellectually superior to those who didn't. This petition illustrates otherwise. This petition illustrates that some (many) people are willing to overturn democracy in order to have it their way. History shows this never goes well. The Remain camp are talking about protecting the future for their children and how the Leave campaign has gone against this. Well whether this is the case or not, I would say this battle for democracy supersedes the import of the EU campaign significantly in its importance to ensure our children have a say in the future. A say that is heard that is.
  20. Thanks Anna. That's reassuring.
  21. So. Not many East Dulwich mums with kids at the nursery then? Hmm.
  22. Just painted my shed in the washable lg one (for interiors, it's durable). My office is Abigail ahern paint which is so Matt and chalky and it's fine with kids. Does it get smudged? Yes. Can you retouch with a tester pot in seconds? Yes. I have a 3 yr old. Go,for, what you love. Buy more than you need coz these paints made from the need many coats to look prime - 3 or 4 coats.
  23. Hello, I wanted to ask if there were any local mums who send their child to the nursery at this school and how you find it. Also, do you intend to keep your child at the school after nursery if your application is accepted?
  24. We use I-escape and canopy and stars
  25. I did suspect dandelions but couldn't find anything online about them being bad. Thanks for letting me know. It could be them.
