An unseen bird croaking in Nunhead Cemetery -- could this be a Raven? answer: definitely a Raven. I found a site with recorded bird calls and it's either a Raven or a giant frog. I'm tending towards the Raven

PCN for driving in Dulwich village, help please!
Sally Eva replied to renarde's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
probably not aimed at you, renarde. You can check your income here: https://www.entitledto.co.uk/ I think you said before that you were disabled? You can ask for help here: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/benefits-and-support/other-welfare-benefits If you have tried to claim disability benefits but been rejected by the DWP, then you can ask for help at Citizens Advice and from Rightfully Yours. -

These fines rise to ?900 if not paid or appealed. Court fees and bailiffs fees will add at least ?500. Bailiffs have to be paid and they will seize possessions and sell them. They know your car number and can seize your car and sell it to pay the debt. They are not under any obligation to try and get good value for your property. They can seize your property wherever it is, so your car can be seized when parked on your drive or on the road. -

It will rise to ?900 and then you can be taken to court for the debt. Bailiffs may be ordered by the court to seize your property to pay it. They will have no trouble finding something worth ?900 which you own because they have your car number. If you feel that it has been wrongly imposed you can ask for further evidence, appeal and then take your case to Northampton County Court where all these cases are heard. -
https://www.london-se1.co.uk/news/view/10577 "The Future Bus project, which is a set of measures to improve bus passenger experience, will also start, including provision of additional bus shelters and improved real-time information," says the TfL report. "The initial year of this project will trial different interventions on a specific bus route to promote the return of bus passengers to the network following the coronavirus pandemic, as well as helping arrest the long-term decline in bus patronage that was occurring prior to the pandemic. "Subject to the evaluation of this initial year, this is anticipated to lead to further passenger-facing enhancements in future years." The Future Bus trial is expected to cost up to ?5 million. " Maybe they will go back to the idea of continuing the route to Honor Oak station which seems a no-brainer to me

You can complain about police behaviour and if you feel you have good cause you should do so. https://policeconduct.gov.uk/complaints-reviews-and-appeals/make-complaint
-
Also [email protected] works. You should get an acknowledgement, not immediately but within a couple of days. I used to use Fix My Street but southwark seemed to stop responding to it -- it was initially very good -- and I was told to use the environment email above.

https://www.london.gov.uk/talk-london/share-your-ideas-reimagine-london?utm_source=talkemailCampaign&utm_medium=talk1EE&utm_campaign=Reimagine032021&utm_content=map The mayor has money for small projects for High Streets. In the first round small projects will be given ?20k seed funding each to support the formation of partnerships and address issues such as bringing vacant buildings into use, protecting cultural spaces and supporting employment on the high street. Tje best will get a second round of funding available from the autumn. And (maybe) a third round later. File your ideas on the link at the top

How to securely store a bike outdoors?

London Cycling Campaign on how to lock up your bike: basically "two good locks including both wheels" https://www.lcc.org.uk/advice/bike-security/ Make sure the D-locks can't be got to the ground, where it is easier to jemmy them off. Two sorts of locks. Somewhere where people are around and there isn't lots of debris from past thefts, indicating that theft is easy. -
How to securely store a bike outdoors?
Sally Eva replied to nmh's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have locked my folding bike up (I agree such a thing is not seen often). When I locked it up folded, I found sosmeone had locked their bike on top of it and it was very difficult to disentangle them and take mine away. Locking them up unfolded would seem to work though. Our Asgard has not been touch in 15 yrs except for children jumping on the roof. The bikes in there are not worth a lot of effort though. A friend of mine spray-painted her bike, loudly and unprettily, to discourage thieves and that seemed to work nmh Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I?ve currently got the bike on a vertical hanging > thing in the front room - I?ve actually got a > nicer (non commuting)bike on the bottom part of > this. what did the tracking sticker look like? Would be worth keeping an eye out for them and taking them off if you find them on your bike. -
Blackbird (near East Dulwich Station and Queens Road station) have been refilling keep cups throughout. Cafe G on Peckham Rye West refill them now. Others (like Goodcup in Nunhead) are using compostable cups ie no inner plastic lining.

Short report on the rides on the SC Web site, https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2021/southwark-healthy-rides-april-24th-2021/ This week we have 2 rides both starting from Peckham at 10am. 12 places, with registration on Eventbrite as usual. Note if all places are already booked it is worth checking back as (1) we may be able to add an extra wave and (2) there are usually several cancellations during the week. You must register on Eventbrite, details below. Please give a phone number when registering as it may be needed for Track and Trace. If you cannot make it, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Even at the last minute it is worth cancelling. Ride details Peckham Blossom Ride https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/peckham-blossom-ride-southwark-healthy-ride-tickets-152309282163 Very easy, leisurely, ride to catch the last of the blossom. Approx. 3 hours. Route up Rye Lane to Nunhead Cemetery and down to Brockley Stn. Next Brookmill Park then a brief climb/walk up to Blackheath and a longish run to Woolwich Barracks & down to Woolwich Ferry roundabout. Back along south side of river to Cutty Sark then via Deptford and New Cross to Peckham library. Jamie leading. We will keep everyone as safe as possible by observing all the Covid Regulations. Most importantly we will be maintaining routinely a 2m social distance, never less than 1m. Particularly important to maintain social distancing from other users on shared paths. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users can maintain 1-2 m and feel safe. Just in case we need them, good idea to bring a face mask. Obviously please do not turn up to this event if you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19. This ride is organised by Southwark Cyclists, and is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/. Southwark Cyclists are part of the London Cycling Campaign. If you have any feedback, good or bad, please get in touch with [email protected]. Where are you trying to get from/to? Sometimes the best idea is to re-cast your whole route. Cycle.travel is a good route finder.

Legally a cyclist pushing a bike is a pedestrian. So if you need to use a pedestrian crossing, this is the legal way to do it.

Development of strip of woodland close to ED station
Sally Eva replied to Reg Smeeton's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
See below. Go and take a look probably the answer. I'd be interested to know. There were suggestions to re-open it to give pedestrian access to the new school. What was said at the time was that the school didn't want it in use for security reasons. The council closed lots of rights of way at the time the housing estate was developed. Much regretted now but too late. EAST DULWICH,SE22 - THE "SECRET" HOSPITAL TUNNEL Disused tunnel under railway line connecting Dulwich Hospital (originally St Saviour?s Union Infirmary) with St Francis Hospital (originally the Constance Road Workhouse of the Camberwell Union) The Dulwich Hospital Tunnel 2019 This disused tunnel under the railway line once connected Dulwich Hospital with St Francis Hospital. This saved time going by road, the stretchers on wheels had large pneumatic tyres to cushion to ride on the uneven pathway. Dulwich Hospital (originally St Saviour?s Union Infirmary) still exists (and in use as a hospital) but St Francis Hospital (originally the Constance Road Workhouse of the Camberwell Union) was demolished in 1993 and a housing estate now exists on the site -this is the estate that you see next to Dulwich Hamlet FC. You can still find the entance of the tunnel from the back of Dulwich Hospital & even walk through the tunnel and up the slope the other end but then you reach a garden fence. -
About the refugee hostel I do not know but the Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers probably does. Try [email protected]

When WILL Dulwich library reopen?
Sally Eva replied to apbremer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The Marmora Road book box is delightful, like a fairy Christmas house. It's at the Forest Hill Road end on the uphill side. There's also a box on Etherow Road near the top of Friern Road. Mostly for children's books I think but lots of others. It's got a good turnover so always worth looking inside -

I don't see why zip vans wouldn't work for the tip. The last time we took anything there, there were so many zip vans that they were being asked for ID etc
