  1. what email did you use? I agree that it's a silly approach. Vans on the pavement are hazardous for pedestrians no matter what they are working on. They should need specific permission to park on the pavement which is an offence everywhere in London
  2. parking on the pavement is an offence enforced by the local authority. Phone Apcoa on 0207 708 8587
  3. Cut it up. The owner has probably stopped it by now. If he/she hasn't, you can put it beyond exploitation by cutting it up
  4. Pugwash Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > There are far more important things in life than > having free newspapers available in a library. Can I disagree with this in principle? A democracy needs a well informed public. Someone who read the range of newspapers available in most public libraries would have the opportunity to be well informed. I think that important.
  5. Just that really. If you know, please tell me
  6. Peckham and Dulwich parks are open today. Anyone know about the Cemetery?
  7. I think it is probably because it refers to "specific protected groups". Under discrimination legislation, groups such as the elderly and disabled must be considered. White people are included in groups of the disabled and elderly. The council need to consider minority ethnic communities under the Equalities legislation. It's their legal obligation which one hopes would also be recognised as a moral and ethical obligation.
  8. Southwark also runs a subsidised trial for cargo bikes for business (available till August 2022). Details here: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/planning-policy-and-transport-policy/transport-policy/projects/cargo-bikes
  9. You are wrong. Reputable charities publish the proportion of their charitable funds spent on management, fundraising etc. It is not 80%.
  10. Could someone send me his email address so I can send him photos. I need the ropes on a sheilamaid replacing and a curtain rail replacing. Both are at the top of a stairwell so both need a long ladder. you can DM me or text me on 07543 842 160
  11. I am not doubting your goodwill or genuineness. I am trying to point towards organisations which do this.
  12. I don't think there is a minimum. They suggest a figure. Centrepoint suggest ?18 for instance but you can change it. I put in ?5 and that was accepted without resistance. St Mungo's says "Enter your own amount". I agree there is no amount on your GoFund me page. OTOH it is for a named individual. There is a form on the Centrepoint donation page but it is your (the donor's) name and address.
  13. Or Centrepoint or the Manna Centre or No Second Night Out St Mungos https://www.mungos.org/magazine-article/stopping-homelessness-before-its-too-late/
  14. info@HandymanEastDulwich.co.uk This address doesn't work for me. Comes back undeliverable
  15. had no problems with it.
  16. solicitors cost money. What are you thinking is wrong with the fixed penalty notices? Zena Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Yes twice in one day, stupidly.
  17. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling/recycling-centres/reuse-and-recycling-centre?chapter=5 There's a list of stuff they recycle there some of which they also repair. I'm slowly accumulating old computers but one is always instructed to take all personal stuff off them. Anyone know how this is done?
  18. This is an assault with a dangerous weapon. Causing actual bodily harm. The police should be investigating it.
  19. Cling film and other bits of soft plastic can be recycled at the Co-op. From the picture this includes crisp packets and similar soft objects. What about till receipts Renata? The rules on these seem to vary from place to place. Does anyone know how to recycle CDs -- used, battered, useless ones of course?
  20. I think you have to ask for them. It's a one-way street. Once installed you cannot ask for them to be removed but they cannot be installed against your wishes.
  21. Is there a local business/charity etc who does this? I'm trying to tidy up after a hoarder and I'm finding a lot of odd stuff.
  22. There is no simple rule-of-thumb to decide whether a vehicle is ULEZ compliant or not. It depends on the type of fuel it uses, the year of registration and the make. Check here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/ulez-vrm-checker
  23. Maybe if we think about what worked well while Rye Lane was closed? I would say that it was dominated by pedestrians ( a good thing IMO) and delivery lorries were successfully kept out after about 10am. There was a traffic short-cut Bournemouth/rye Lane /Choumert which brought private cars down the Lane and that was closed, improving safety for all. Bus travel around the Lane (ie using Consort Road) was faster IMO. If you weren't going to Rye Lane, your journey was considerably speeded up. My heart used to sink as the bus approached Rye Lane and the rise again as I realised we would go around it. That's a selfish thought but nevertheless a benefit for people not going to Rye Lane itself. If we could keep some of those benefits (perhaps not the buses being quicker and more reliable) then that would be nice
  24. Does the ridgeback come in black and brown -- if so there were two of them under very poor control in Nunhead Cemetery today.
  25. My Brompton was stolen the first time I left it outside. You get very fond of a bike so my condolences. Afterwards (ie too late) I googled "how to lock up a Brompton outside" and the basic answer is "don't" Natty Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > word of warning to bike owners.
