  1. I heard it was being turned into a cactus sanctuary.
  2. Don't agree on the Gowlett. It's been opened up and one section poncified. It's not quite one thing or the other now.
  3. Reminds me of Rowley's in Mayfair. They did just steak and chips - I believe they had a fire though! Tonight I'm doing Nigella's disconcertingly easy Chicken au Reisling ('cept I only have Pinot Grigio which will have to do) - v. yummy. Fry lardons, add sliced leek, throw in chicken thighs or whatever's to hand, season, add mushrooms, cover with wine and cook for 40 mins. Serve with noodles or crusty bread or tonight's offering: spuds crushed with peas. Stop press: don't use the Pinot, doesn't work half as well as Chardonnay which I tried last week.
  4. Suspect Keef is pulling your educated plonker.
  5. Anyone else listening to the Beeb commentary? They seem a trifle occupied with the new cricket jumpers. Don't have Sky so will have to wait for the highlights to see this phenomonen(sp?).
  6. A cautionary tale: I bought a flat just before the last recession. Shortly afterwards I ended up with an alarming amount of negative equity and my home ended up being repossessed and sold for peanuts at auction. I think Keef you should wait at least until the end of the year, I don't think the housing market is anywhere near the bottom yet. [edited - far too much information!]
  7. Down Zenoria Rd, Strawbs. Keith, they do have a handheld sign on a Saturday, the stallholders seem to take it in turns. I expect it's a problem with planning permission that there isn't a permnanent one. However, you can apply to the Council to put a sign on a lamppost - it costs about ?200 from memory - that may be worth the stallholders chipping in for.
  8. I haven't been yet, but am a little put off by the pasta prices. I though an Italian meal started with anti pasto, then pasta, then meat or fish. The fact that some 'main' dishes are served with potatoes and with the pasta that expensive makes me think that it isn't terribly authentic.
  9. What shall we do with a drunken sailor? - trad.
  10. Never heard of it, SQ1. Just seemed logical, Captain.
  11. Should have thought Jah was too busy with his bottle of rubbing alcohol to look on here.
  12. Liam Og's - I fondly remember a lock in there on Good Friday - back in the day when pubs closed in the afternoon. I think the CPT green is very elegant - sort of Georgian Farrow & Ball colour, but the light blue spoils it.
  13. I would have thought that growing vegetables on top of a corpse would be good from a compost point of view.
  14. Has anyone checked inside Cafe El Paso?
  15. Best practice Brendan, the Trevor Chappell style is rather frowned on nowadays! PS: Michael, are you still up for driving?
  16. Give me a pack of fags any day over poncing about in the park.
  17. It's people like you who make me sick. You are so selfish and should be banned from keeping a cactus. Did it have a collar; was it even chipped? I know they look all cuddly, but you have to take care of them. A cactus is not just for Christmas. I shall report you to the RSPCC.
  18. Shaving is a macho pursuit, jollybaby; I'd be worried if he was clamouring for a wax.
  19. This guy? http://i.thisislondon.co.uk/i/pix/2007/02/wolfie_243x278.jpg
  20. I'm with Bawdy-Nan, I think ED Market would have been a more accurate title.
