This article was in the Telegraph a couple of week's ago, and estimates it costs 74p to make a basic loaf at home. Using your loaf It has a few simple recipes, one of which I've tried (Doris Grant loaf - it does work without kneading but has quite a dense texture. I added sunflower seeds to the top which was yummy) and got halfway to making soda bread this morning when I realised I didn't have lemon. Will report back when I've been shopping. I've not got on with the breadmaker so it's back to hand for me. I'm much too parsimonius to pay ?2.50 for a loaf, though I wish the bread shop well - I'll be the one with my nose pressed up against the pane, outside in the howling wind, wishing ma hadn't died in the workhouse ... (edited for Freudian slip)
