  1. Brendan - what a sight that conjurs up! I can't wait to see you in the summer.
  2. Hey MM, I am that religious nutter. See my stance on the abortion thread - at least I'm consistent. It's a v. emotive subject and I certainly am not advocating that a person should suffer, I'm assuming some sort of palliative care would be taking place - we're not on a John Wayne battleground where a coup de grace is administered (but also not necessarily floating on a cloud of morphine induced haze that Jah is imagining as I think death is [am not actually going to try and explain what I mean right now cos Cheltenham is taking my attention and I'm out of nictotine and this one needs serious contemplation] ) Re 2., I do have some experience of this and I do know some medics collude in the practice, but my concern is that euthanasia is for the benefit of those who have to watch the suffering and can't bear it. I will try and make sense of this rambling later - promise.
  3. Could I just point out that the Queen would probably prefer if everyone uses natural beeswax - much kinder to the Hepplewhites.
  4. Grrr, a sore spot with me. I want a library to provide books. I don't want films - I'll go to blockbusters for that; don't want computers, I'll go to an internet cafe for that; don't want peripheral crap, I WANT BOOKS.
  5. This article was in the Telegraph a couple of week's ago, and estimates it costs 74p to make a basic loaf at home. Using your loaf It has a few simple recipes, one of which I've tried (Doris Grant loaf - it does work without kneading but has quite a dense texture. I added sunflower seeds to the top which was yummy) and got halfway to making soda bread this morning when I realised I didn't have lemon. Will report back when I've been shopping. I've not got on with the breadmaker so it's back to hand for me. I'm much too parsimonius to pay ?2.50 for a loaf, though I wish the bread shop well - I'll be the one with my nose pressed up against the pane, outside in the howling wind, wishing ma hadn't died in the workhouse ... (edited for Freudian slip)
  6. Somerfield in Lordship Lane, ED; Morrisons in Peckham; and since you have a car, there is Tesco & Asda on the Old Kent Rd which is only a 10/15 min drive away. There is a Tesco Express on East Dulwich road (parallel to Barry Rd) There is an M&S in Walworth Rd but parking's a bit hit & miss so hop on the number 12 (about 25 min ride). If you want Waitrose, get it delivered! Always found the area in Peckham and surrounding satellites safe. Welcome.
  7. Got me leavvers and bike chain - where's the rumble?
  8. Lemon juice dissolves limescale.
  9. Probably The Castle, but I'm too scared to go in and check.
  10. 1. Absolutely not. 2. Absolutely not. 3. not needed
  11. Let's have another book swap evening. What about it Steve?
  12. After the ball is over - Charles K Harris
  13. Oh no, I'd better buy a hat and dark glasses.
  14. Possibly the naturists and non-smokers should have combined - it could be painful to drop ash on one's extremities, so they seem natural bed-fellows.
  15. I think economic class and 'class' class are two separate things. One could be the Duke of Peckham yet not have two ha'pennies to rub together; or one could have earned a ?1.2m bonus last year and aspirate one's aitches!
  16. That's so helpful Willow - I'm squirming now!
  17. If you're pushing the boat out, cocktail at Le Chandelier before Franklins.
  18. Not stupid at all. I feel guilty getting rid of my peelings (what ever happened to pig scraps?) and though I have a garden, I don't compost because I have a worm phobia. (How weird is that?)
  19. Country Roads - John Denver
  20. With 2 mins to go, looks like Middlesbrough are going out too. Bloody brilliant.
  21. This is not going to help your argument Mark, but I actually prefer a decent head on a pint of ale - I'd rather that than a full pint of liquid.
  22. How sweet, Michael, you have a matching one: http://www.makemeheal.com/images/products/estore/10091/large/2031.jpg
