  1. Lambeth and Camden provide bars and ground anchors. If you have an off-street area, however, you can get a pretty cheap Oxford wall anchor that has done the trick for me so far. Either way, you'll need a very substantial chain and lock, which cost over ?100. Worth it though.
  2. And the stolen bikes (scooters especially) are increasingly being linked to street robbery, especially mobile phone and bag-snatching. So it's more than just an inconvenience to us bikers.
  3. Cover and ground anchor/locked to lamppost is the easiest. I have an alarmed lock along with an immobiliser and bike alarm too.
  4. The police were there in five minutes both times I called them when my bike was nearly stolen. They raced around the nearby streets looking for leads, but their hands are tied by H&S. If the rider or pillion removes their helmet, they have to give up the chase. Likewise, they can't pursue over parkland or down alleys. This is what the officer said.
  5. Ford C-Max/S-Max/Galaxy depending on the size/age of your family. Minis are impractical and expensive.
  6. The wind was blowing from the east the other day, so probably that. City planes were still landing though.
  7. The thing is, it doesn't work well. Having lived in two CPZs, I can tell you you will be no better off, except you'll have to shell out ?100 a year for the privilege. And you'll have to keep a book of day tickets (which expire after three years), for friends and family and tradesmen who pop by, even for just 10 minutes. And you'll find yourself getting fined ?120 when you forget to re-apply for your permit, or, in our case, when it fell off the windscreen on a sunny day. And you'll find other drivers from the area will STILL park in your street, as the CPZ will cover a large area, for example the whole of SE22. Be careful what you wish for.

  9. My lock alarm was triggered this morning at 0415, so they're around again. Be vigilant.
  10. They're not allowed on double-yellows, as DY lines are usually put there for safety reasons. Edited: apparently they are, but not anywhere where they might be a danger.
  11. What's the reg?
  12. An expensive sportswear shop replaces an expensive deli. Why is this 'the final nail'? I'd sooner this, than a bookies or an estate agent.
  13. Now I've got the Macc Lads' song of the same name in my head...
  14. Get a 2nd hand or refurbished MacBook Pro or Air from a reseller. Will come with a guarantee too. Here's a cute yet powerful 13" MacBook Air for ?399: http://www.portableuniverse.co.uk/Apple+Laptops/Apple+MacBook+Air+13inch+Intel+Core+i5%2C+4GB%2C+128GB+SSD+MD760BA+%282013%29.html
  15. Bike was attached to ground anchor, with decent chain (but not usual heavy chain, which is in the west end attached to an anchor there after similar attempted theft. A cover does work, but these scum know what they're doing.
  16. You have to stick your bumper out into the road to see at this junction. That's a visibility issue. Solve that first.
  17. Motorbike thieves out this morning again, trying for the 2nd time in as many months to steal my bike. Two youths in dark waterproofs on a big commuter-type scooter, stolen reg: R5 NWF. That's another ?500 replacement ignition barrel and lock-set to find...
  18. Re yellow lines - I said that over two years ago, when the build-outs were installed. Apparently long sight lines make traffic speed, which is bollocks.
  19. It's because, in spite of it not being your fault, you're considered more of a risk. No wonder people drive uninsured.
  20. You should report this to the police. The pitbull is a banned dog: https://www.gov.uk/control-dog-public/banned-dogs
  21. They're probably training. They'd do better to stop the drivers on their phones, as they're much more likely to cause a crash than someone doing 25mph.
  22. If the police give chase, the pillion removes their helmet because they know the police have to stop chasing. Health & safety you see. That's what they told me.
  23. Thanks for the heads-up
  24. It's actually worse for emissions as most cars are labouring low in third or high in second gear.

You're right. Actually, they're good to sell on eBay for around a tenner
