Wouldn't adding obstacles like flower troughs in this space cancel that out? (Although the idea of prettying up the pavement environment is a sound one in principle)
  2. Yep, a straight lawn and a 'V' shaped bed between the lawn and the drive
  3. It would drive me nuts for ever, if they weren't lined up. If they're just slightly out, even worse. Match it perfectly, or make it clearly and deliberately different, as my woodwork teacher advised me. Nothing inbetween.
  4. Looked like a small-ish crew, likely a TV ad
  5. If it were to be any use as a speed camera (which it isn't), it would've, should've been placed on the road going into Dulwich Village, before the parade of shops.
  6. It's linked to two induction coils in the tarmac by the white stop line at the traffic light. If you jump a red light, it will flash and take a photo of you. Fine and three points. It's live one second after the red light appears. Some have a dual speed camera use, but mostly on main roads, like the A40 in Acton. There will be calibration painted on the road if this is the case.
  7. It's just a digital red light camera
  8. If it's at the junction, it's probably a new digital-style red light camera, rather than the old film version.
  9. They're Honda VT125 Shadows/Viragos. They're not worth anything really
  10. They've been there for over 10 years. Not a police issue. I remember this subject coming up a while ago on here. They're apparently 'not for sale'.
  11. In Amsterdam, and France, mopeds (50cc) share the cyclepaths with cyclists. They don't even wear helmets or carry number plates. I suspect that the ones on this thread are uninsured scooters though.
  12. Traffic backed up from Oval to Peckham Road, last night because of Kennington chaos. And back to Victoria the other side of VH bridge. And everyone sitting with their engines running, in this heat.
  13. Agree. It's a bit dingy over by the windows now.

  15. Watch bike thefts slow down now. This was probably a one-team crimewave.
  16. It might be a mansard-style extension, which wouldn't affect the front profile of this already imposing building. We'll see. http://www.traditionalproductreports.com/images/roofing-april2014/7.jpg
  17. It used to be triggered by a pressure pad/induction coil set into the tarmac about 100m up the hill from the lights (if you hit it in the right place on your bicycle, it would swing the lights in your favour too). Looks like it wasn't reinstalled or connected when the road was resurfaced.
  18. Lordship out. A little reminder of life under old Labour in the '70s.
  19. Spider: "How long? Both for TFL and Southwark roads. If you took the accidents on Townley road it would prove nothing. Do not think a short period of time will prove anything. You have to take things over a much longer period. Still Southwark will jump on a figure and convert it into positive spin for a flawed policy." Exactly. They'll say it's not being adhered to, and roll out cameras etc. And still the accidents will happen, as most are not statistically caused by speed.
  20. They really are used mainly for parking, in bus lanes, on double-yellows, outside schools, in restricted bays. They'll be looking for vans loading on LL in the bus lane, of which there are many on a weekday. They can film people driving in bus lanes, but it's harder to convict as the perpetrator has to be filmed driving past the sign at the start of the bus lane and has to be seen driving for more than 10m inside the white lines of the lane. Otherwise it's not a sound conviction.
  21. Spy cars aren't emergency vehicles so they have no reason to leave their engines running.
  22. They have cameras on poles all over London monitoring bus lanes. It's the usual way of issuing fines. There's one by Denmark Hill station, and one at the end of the bus lane by King's. They used to have them built into the front of buses, in the early 2000s, but they were too hard to maintain. The camera cars are there mainly for parking fines, as they're operated by APCOA (Airport Parking Company Of America); they'll also issue fines for bus lanes and box junction violations. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > stevie23b Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > why not just have a camera stuck on a lamp post > to > > cover bus lanes? > > Or on the front of buses?
  23. From Southwark's Draft Air Quality Strategy and Action Plan: Measure 4: Southwark will, undertake enforcement on idling engines at hotspots within the borough. "Vehicle engines left idling when parked contributes to pollution, there is law that makes this an offence but has rarely been enforced. We will start enforcing this law to tackle this unnecessary form of pollution." I know where to start.
  24. What annoys me is that they sit there parked with their engines running, for up to two hours.
