  1. So the pillion removes his helmet and the chase is called off.
  2. Ever wondered were all our stolen motorbikes go? Perhaps the police should be allowed to chase them now.

You're correct - it's the '20m concession'

We have never had anything (touch > wood!) You have to drive 40m in a bus lane for any fine to be valid. You should've appealed!
  5. Pretty much any diesel made before 2014 will fall foul of the uLEZ rules. And most petrol cars built before 2006.
  6. There isn't a speed camera at that location. Don't know about a bus lane camera though. Might be worth checking google street view.
  7. To not charge taxis is absurd. The amount of old (some up to 18-years-old) black cabs in town is criminal. Few are Euro6 compliant; most are Euro4 high-milers with no particulate filters and poor tuning. Start there.
  8. The size of the unit base suggested a commercial
  9. What's the reg?
  10. I'm going to keep whingeing, thanks. Not about the result - it is what it is - but about the ignorance of the people who voted for it, and who will now be among the first to suffer its consequences.
  11. On the contrary, I want him to have to deal with the clusterfuck he's helped create. If May gets in, for example, the Brexiters will just say it's her fault the country's wrecked.

This was after I told them that we'd all voted in, but your post makes sense!
  13. Just had a couple of Remain chaps at the door asking if we'd voted, which we have. They said that there's been a surprisingly low turnout in SE22, so if you haven't voted - get to the polling station now!
  14. This is the kind of thing our stolen bikes end up being used for: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/brazen-moped-thief-caught-on-camera-snatching-phone-out-of-victims-hand-in-square-mile-a3276136.html So anything that can be done to prevent thefts is imperative. .

  16. Lambeth and Camden provide bars and ground anchors. If you have an off-street area, however, you can get a pretty cheap Oxford wall anchor that has done the trick for me so far. Either way, you'll need a very substantial chain and lock, which cost over ?100. Worth it though.
  17. And the stolen bikes (scooters especially) are increasingly being linked to street robbery, especially mobile phone and bag-snatching. So it's more than just an inconvenience to us bikers.
  18. Cover and ground anchor/locked to lamppost is the easiest. I have an alarmed lock along with an immobiliser and bike alarm too.
  19. The police were there in five minutes both times I called them when my bike was nearly stolen. They raced around the nearby streets looking for leads, but their hands are tied by H&S. If the rider or pillion removes their helmet, they have to give up the chase. Likewise, they can't pursue over parkland or down alleys. This is what the officer said.
  20. Ford C-Max/S-Max/Galaxy depending on the size/age of your family. Minis are impractical and expensive.
  21. The wind was blowing from the east the other day, so probably that. City planes were still landing though.
  22. The thing is, it doesn't work well. Having lived in two CPZs, I can tell you you will be no better off, except you'll have to shell out ?100 a year for the privilege. And you'll have to keep a book of day tickets (which expire after three years), for friends and family and tradesmen who pop by, even for just 10 minutes. And you'll find yourself getting fined ?120 when you forget to re-apply for your permit, or, in our case, when it fell off the windscreen on a sunny day. And you'll find other drivers from the area will STILL park in your street, as the CPZ will cover a large area, for example the whole of SE22. Be careful what you wish for.

  24. My lock alarm was triggered this morning at 0415, so they're around again. Be vigilant.
  25. They're not allowed on double-yellows, as DY lines are usually put there for safety reasons. Edited: apparently they are, but not anywhere where they might be a danger.
