  1. Glau, you should've driven off. The ticket has to be issued to the vehicle, otherwise you will get off under 'the offence did not occur' excuse. This doesn't apply to the Stasi-like issuing of tickets by CCTV.
  2. "I have not come across anything quite like this, but if accurate, it's appalling and the person who posted the story needs to go to the press. If we know who this person is, I would be more than happy to follow it up as a case." Ask any London motorist and they will tell you similar story, experienced by them or by someone they know. I had the same experience as Fuschia in SW4; a CPZ permit holder (issued by Lambeth) fell off in the sun and I got clamped and towed for not displaying correctly. Cost me ?240 to get the car back. Great. Plus, in Camden, Mrs Kford asked a parking attendant if it was OK to load in one particular spot and was told it was fine, only to return to the car two minutes later for another armful of clothes, to find a ticket. Apparently, you have to leave your bootlid up to signify 'loading'. We got off after a lengthy appeal. NB: Expect more of this if we allow a CPZ in this area.
  3. He should've taken a photo of the ticket displayed 'incorrectly'; if you're convinced it was in the right place, challenge, saying you're prepared to take the case to the Parking Ajudicator. His photo will damn him. They'll possibly reject the first appeal, hoping you won't take it further, risking full payment, but take it further - they won't risk a day at the ajudication court if it's a grey area.
  4. It's slowly carving out a niche as antique alley, though.
  5. Technically Grove Vale, not ED, innit
  6. Recently there were planes on final approach into Heathrow AND London City, with a couple of thousand feet between them. Not seen that before - they usually alternate. Maybe that's why it seemed busy.
  7. But OJ and lemonade is the classic post-5-a-side football drink, just before you get on the ale. It's one of the few acceptable pub soft drinks and should be cheap.
  8. Went to Iceland the other day and there was no ice.
  9. Next to Winkworth.
  10. Oh, and blinder's hacking cough is more likely from diesel particulates, from said taxis and out-of-tune trucks and buses.
  11. "Motorbikes are churning out more pollution than cars, even though they make up only a small fraction of vehicles on the roads, according to a report." Well, they're not, because there are fewer of them. If you want a real polluter, how about the 22,000 London cabs which chug around all day long, giving out on average 265g/km CO2, more than a BMW X5?
  12. What about 'diddycoy' or 'tinker'?
  13. Yes, all 12 electric scooters in Westminster can park for free. A parking attendant, working under contract for APCOA or NCP or whatever, earning ?60/day will have paid for himself and be generating profit for his bosses and the council with his second PCN of the day. It's big business.
  14. Thanks for your solidarity, Rhinestone. You're now paying more than it costs to park a whole car outside a property in Clapham or Wandsworth. Are you the reason we're being fleeced left, right and centre from all angles, by all parties? The ?150-?400 I spend on this scam could go to something useful, like my family's stomach, a new push-bike, or even spent on LL. Instead, it will be used to keep Westminster's council tax the lowest in the country.
  15. It's Ant Day! Bikers and cyclists - cover your eyes.
  16. Thanks Seany, I'll chat to you too ;-) Re: discussion doc.: it's actually happening for real, from 4th August. All bikes in W1 have been leafleted. It was introduced on a good day to bury bad news - Jan 3rd 2007, while we were all hungover/busy at work/on hols.
  17. Brendan Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > kford. Yeah coz I wasn't being sarcastic in any > way. Sorry mate, didn't quite get your banter (tu)
  18. Brendan, would you like me and all the other bikers to cram on your already crowded bus? Did your missus run off with a biker or something?
  19. I have yet to see any 'enhancements'. The only impact, as far as I can see, is some bays have been made one car's length longer, a benefit, as we can fill that with up to 10 bikes. The cost to the council? Painting white lines around a bay which was lying empty because the Congestion Charge and phone-pay parking has freed up loads of on-street parking spaces. Oh, and we pay road tax, insurance and it costs ?18 to fill my tank at the moment.
  20. I have locked this post as there is a duplicate post here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,148966 - The Administrator Ahoy, motorbike and scooter commuters: Westminster Council is about to charge ?1.50/day to park in their part of London. As we ease the burden on the Tube and buses, and ease road congestion, while returning up to 100+ mpg (10mpg more than a G-Wiz electric car and 50mpg more than a Prius), we should be encouraged, not penalised. Send your opposition to: [www3.westminster.gov.uk] PS: I cycle too, so on the days I cycle in, I'll still be paying, as it's a yearly permit. Great.

  22. Death AND religion - very shaky ground. NB: where was their their god at the time of the accident?
  23. As supermarkets go, you won't find one more ethical, to staff or suppliers, than the Co-op. It's a very ED kind of store. Not sure how the quality of the produce measures up against the others though. The original Co-op in the block where the Co-op chemist is was destroyed by a V1 in '44; killed dozens.
  24. Hmm.. I just can't get past the insipid name. Sounds like something conjured up by grad marketeers during their first ever brainstorming session.
