  1. It's probably just a bored kid but I would notify the safer neighbourhood team if I were you. Also perhaps you could tell your neighbours so they can keep an eye out?
  2. Poor you, standswithfist and your poor daughter. This really is shocking.
  3. Suzy, the timer thing is recommended in 1,2,3 magic too. Good to know it works for you. We're off to get one! Thanks!
  4. Thank you, all. Sounds like reward charts are the way forward. Will also take a look at aha parenting. We've also read 1,2,3 magic yesterday and it's given us a structure to be a little more strict/structured in our approach. Trigger seems to be boredom, anything that takes a bit of time and is considered a chore (going to the loo, getting dressed after swimming). But I also readily admit that we've been inconsistent on the discipline front and we might be looking at the consequences right now.
  5. My 5-year-old's behaviour is deteriorating every day. she's turning into a nightmare, refusing to do anything we tell her to, shouting constantly, being very brutal with us (hair pulling etc...) Tonight she weed her bed on purpose. Things have got noticeably worse since the beginning of the holidays. It looks to me like very frustated behaviour like she's bored out of her mind but we're doing our best to keep her busy. Or is it what is called "pushing boundaries"? She's my first but I also come from a big family and I really have never seen anything like it. Anyone has any advice? Is this normal or does it sound off the scale?
  6. Thank you for resurrecting this thread - some great ideas. We've just read the first book in the Famous Five series and Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl and are about to get started on Milly Molly Mandy. Also thinking of reading her some Kipling (Just So stories) and perhaps Little House on the Prairie. Bit of a mixed bag! Thanks for the tip for A Mighty Girl, some great ideas in there, including the story of Helen Keller, which i read again and again when I was little. Memories flooding back... Thanks, all!
  7. Welcome to our school! Last year, our daughter attended only mornings for the first week. Her first day was also quite late after the official back to school date. On the official back to school day or the day after, we had a home visit from the teacher and teaching assistant, which we had signed up for in June. Hopefully some parents with reception children will be able to tell you more about this year's schedule. If I can help with other questions you have, please let me know, I'd be happy to help.
  8. I have pm'd you Rachael.
  9. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200017/children_and_families This link shoud help you.
  10. Your poor son. Hope he's not too shaken up. Take care.
  11. We went to the Sea Gardens in Turkey with Mark Warner and loved it. The resort is not managed by MW but by a Swiss company. The place is beautiful, spotless and the food gorgeous. Last year we went to a MW resort managed by MW themselves (Praia da Luz, Portugal) The food was dreadful, the worse I have had. We were lucky with our accommodation but a friend of ours had a flat that was really tired. All this to say that you should be careful before travelling with Mark Warner.
  12. I think the negative comments are linked to the fact that it's a straight cut and paste job from the Internet. Also the school's results are really average so it looks a bit like some happy clappy butt covering from the teachers.
  13. I am on first week of a new commute and have in the evenings been waiting for a number 12 or 97 bus from Peckham rye to Barry road for 15-20 minutes several times. Have I just been unlucky or are these routes becoming erratic?
  14. Don't worry - it happens. People opine, sometimes politely, sometimes not.I once had someone roll their eyes because my one and a half year old was staring at their sandwich. Whatever!
  15. Another vote for the Galleon. Daugther has perfect bob!
  16. Or the Polka theatre in Wimbledon? Or the Unicorn theatre in London Bridge?
  17. How about the Discovery Centre in Stratford?
  18. If I could do it again, I would choose somewhere in the catchment of one of the many very good Forest Hill schools (Fairlawn, Horniman) or Eliot Bank on the Sydenham border or Gordonbrock in Brockley. Property is a bit cheaper there and many of those schools are outstanding.
  19. Thanks all. We are sorted! Thank you again!
  20. Thank you. Would have been perfect had I been organised! But I need something for tomorrow. Any ideas locally most welcome!
  21. My daughter needs a colourful tutu for assembly tomorrow. I am at work. Where do I send the husband? Thanks in advance!
  22. Yep setting them up fast and thick so they take over an area and can then become mediocre - which some of them already are.
  23. That's terrible, lollipop.i hope you get to the bottom of this.
