  1. HAL you are incorrect I'm afraid. You DO need a TV licence if you watch content on iplayer/ internet or a mobile phone. It states it on the back of the licence.
  2. If someone is found guilty of murder they do not get off lightly...they go to prison.....so it's no deterrent is it. The problem is that these kids don't even think of the consequences. They have no fear but for that of the psuedo gang culture they adopt.
  3. Problem is that our prisons are full.
  4. The ITV news have just reported it.
  5. But with sky you get adverts interrupting your movies and programmes. The licence fee is what stops the BBC having advertising.
  6. Also there IS the chance that a police team carrying out stop and search may well have confiscated knives etc so to claim a police presence would never make a difference is nonsense. James is simply taking an interest in something that is very tragic and asking if there is anything he can do as a councillor to minimise the chances of that happening again.
  7. I just despair at why everything has to be used for profiteering anyway. 40,000 hectares will still mean that forest local to someone will be lost.
  8. It may well have just been a teenage argument that got out of hand, but sadly it seems these days, that's all it takes for some to commit murder.
  9. rotfl........:)):)):))
  10. Today I am replacing the bearings in my washing machine AND baking chocolate chip cupcakes!.......impressive huh?
  11. Any murder is awful but it is also true to say that when guns and knives are involved it's often criminal/ gang related. Gangs and the crime rackets they protect have always existed in London and London is far safer than it was 100 years ago. Personally I find it hard to understand how anyone can extinguish someone's life so needlessly (self defense excepted of course). Whatever the story is (sure it will emerge over the next few days) it's very tragic.
  12. I filled one out but found some of the questions worded in a way that shows the council prefer prioritising pedestrians over vehicles. It's cearly designed to encourage answers that support it's policy on highway redevelopment schemes.
  13. Sounds to me as though the cleaner et al are on a tax free make, which is fine as long as hubby gets to stay for the time he pays and no-one accuses him of not paying the bill. Personally, if I'm going to be on that kind of arrangement with someone I like to see the face of who I'm being asked to trust.
  14. Teenagers stealing from teenagers is an everyday occurance unfortunately. And usually it's the phone that's stolen.
  15. Yes annual rent. They put the rent up 20% two years ago and quite a few people stopped renting them. Most of the garages were build on estates as secure parking for cars/ vehicles owned by tenants and they often sit at the base of a block of flats. There is no option for redevelopment btw so never likely to get in the hands of developers. You still need to prove you own a vehicle to be able to rent one and I suspect the change of policy has a lot to do with Southwarks need to get revenue after the government handed it some of the largest cuts in the country.
  16. It's not the roads that are affected though is it.....it's parking spaces, because that's were most people are fined...for being in a parking space at the wrong time of day or over the time of the ticket they bought. It also used to be that a vehicle was only towed if it caused an obstruction. Again a vehicle is often towed for being in a parking space at the wrong time. Equally unfair is the process of increasing the fine if paid after two weeks (or whatever it is). It is prohibitive to the process of appeal. There is a lot to criticise in the way and the reasons for which we fine motorists.
  17. Not a bargain given that the rent will now exceed the value of the motorbike I store in it, and given that most council tenants that rent garages are low waged. So effectively they will become priced out. Garages were originally intended for tenants to rent and some councils still only rent to tenants on the estate where garages are located.
  18. Recovery of vehicle impounded for driving without insurance ?150 Average cost of recovering a vehicle for being illegally parked ?400 Incidently, some councils pay more to parking contractors than they actually make in fines which is also just as stupid.
  19. A mongrel? ;-)
  20. You could also apply via the 'greener, cleaner, safer' fund via your community council for funding to install lockable bicycle sheds on your estate. The process would take about a year from application to installation but definitely worth it for the long term view.
  21. "new age travellers" (where have they gone??) Back to their parents homes in Surrey? Or worse still, inherited their parents homes in Surrey?
  22. If I see P Plates I definitely am extra considerate. I think safe drivers will respect the P Plates and be extra patient. And as someone else said, bad drivers will do whatever they like irregardless.
  23. Hmm maybe the hotel owner is xenopobic....hence the lack of human involvement..... By the way...have you seen the movie 'Hostel'? It suddenly comes to mind.....hotel in the middle of nowhere...the only one....leave the cash on the table to be collected.......just saying like lol.....;-)
  24. I personally think it is foolish to leave money and for someone to collect. At least hand it to someone and get a receipt, because whilst most people may well be honest, it just takes the one who is not and you have no proof of ever having then paid the money.
