former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
cella replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Not clear what you mean to say? -
When I was in there yesterday the Manager told me they were staying open during the refit but with only about 25% of the retail space during that time.

A missed opportunity to exercise a hard won democratic right and you won't have had a rightful say in what happens next in the LP. Disappointing.

Down again briefly just now

Yes all of them are reported and, as you say, there is a tiny compensation for each but it's down to the customer to report it each time, otherwise they don't automatically pay it. Too much time out of my life - grr.

Yes that's what the recirded message says! But that's now the fourth time here in the last few weeks so they clearly can't easily resolve it. It's so so annoying when you're trying to get some work done. I've been with Virgin for over 20 years but lately the service and the various cost increases mean we are giving serious consideration to changing. The trouble is who to go with?

Yes indeed rh- have very occasionally been guilty myself - just read like it happened regularly with the op that's all. Also it does deprive other readers from borrowing too.

Maybe just return your books on time?

Replaced soil, cleaned decking and painted all walls white in my garden and went to bed with such a sense of achievement. Got up this morning and rushed to view - every single wall trashed with muddy fix prints, a three foot hole dug in a bed and the resultant soil all over deck. Really tearful......

Monica - I definitely won't be engaging with you further as I do think you seem quite scary and angry. I really can't imagine you have the support you think amongst your peers as I would guess most of them care both about their image and welcoming potential customers. If you think that I'm a politician then your attitude and manner towards elected people is contemptible. JoeLeg - you normally appear assertive but reasonable in postings. However you seem to have wedged yourself against the wall on this thread and you're not moving. I've no clue what your last posts even mean so I think I'll draw a line now on this. Expect you'll have to have the last word though...!
-
Well, the impression you're giving is that you've taken up a position on this (fine to have an opinion) but you just keep repeating things either I haven't said or reinforcing your interpretation of comments made here so there doesn't seem to be any point continuing really.
-
JL - that's clearly your opinion but I'm afraid I disagree and also disagree with your interpretation of comments. I can't just agree with you to stop the postings.
-
I can't agree with your personal interpretation JoeLeg so can't see any purpose in going round in circles. Monica, you however, demonstrate a scary approach. I'm now quite glad I don't know your speciality as your attitude is unnecessarily hostile towards potential customers.
-
Cant agree with your interpretation of comments and concerns on here JoeLeg so I guess we will leave it there for now.
-
Well you are entitled to your opinion Monica and I won't retaliate by calling you what you've called me several times now. I am guessing that you won't be interested in helping your customers in making life easier for some of them. It's probably right that you won't reveal which of the businesses is yours as you certainly don't sound very welcoming. C'est la vie.

My original concerns remain - the pavements are too narrow for the amount of people, cyclists, joggers, buggies, cars etc using them. Added to the users is the range of random street furniture, chained cycles, signs, etc all taking up space. And yes some A Boards too. The concerns on here for shopkeepers and business owners legitimate outside space is connected to this but has dramatically overridden the original post. However, though personally I'm a firm supporter and frequent user of many of the local businesses in LL in particular, due consideration has to be given by Southwark to the needs of pedestrians. How they do this will be challenging and some people have wrongly interpreted this as an attack on local businesses and their space. Nobody has suggested that they should give up any land at all as far as I can see. Really though, things have to improve for pedestrians and shops have a vested interest in their customers being able to reach them easily and safely. I've been sent a couple of suggestions for routes through to Southwark so will pursue after elections.
-
Driven to stoop below my own standards I'm afraid rendelharris! I've had some helpful and positive pms which is good so, when time is freed up after the elections, will pursue alternative routes then.
-
You appear to be the only one who is wound up Monica my dear. And patronising. Coy about your business it appears - go on - do tell.
-
Chill Monica - if you are so confident about your "legal rights" then you have nothing to fear from Southwark. You clearly haven't properly read my comments nor the more recent comments from others and appear to be focussing only on your own narrow interests. Wonder what sort of business you run as you don't sound very welcoming.
-
Actually I'm mildly surprised at you JoeLeg as I am always interested to read your posts - you always come across as reasonable - you're taking up a position on this one for some reason. Not surprised at you obviously nxjen - you are usually meanspirited on here. It won't stop me commenting on the Forum but it's always dispiriting when it's made personal rather than debating the actual issues. I know that others have commented in the past on what appears to be a clique on the Forum who seem to resent it when infrequent posters get involved.

nxjen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The Southwark link describes advertising boards > and displays of goods that are unauthorised. If > set up on the shop's own land, they are not > unauthorised. Sigh - My concern has never been the legality of the boards - that's for Southwark to enforce - it's about being able to move freely as a pedestrian on pavements. I'm beginning to think the business owners represented here genuinely don't care about their customer access as long as their space and boards are kept!
-
Not sure anyone is suggesting businesses give up their legally owned land or getting into CPOs are they? My personal view is that the changes and increases to the demographic round here mean that the infrastructure isn't fit for purpose any longer. We all want businesses to thrive and there's lots of engagement with traffic, CPZs, cycling facilities - all good - but the pedestrian seems to be the poor relative. There are lots of things, inc all previous suggestions on here, that Southwark could consider to improve access. The Southwark link already provided above outlines ways that Southwark could enforce their own rules and that would be a start.
-
Think you appear a little blinkered and proprioritial about your own interests. My thoughts didn't just extend to your views on here. You need customers to be able to get to your business and others in LL but, over time, the increase, changing profile and habits of locals have evolved massively. Southwark need to, and to a degree are, look at how life can be made easier for pedestrians as well as road users. And businesses need top,ay their part.
