Has Copleston road change, or is it me?

Oh and groups coming back from pub late, throwing open all windows and doors and continuing the party. In the recebt hot weather that one. -
Has Copleston road change, or is it me?
cella replied to trinidad's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You're not alone - think it's just a symptom of everyday life unfortunately. My road is fairly quiet, which I relish, but at other times it's things like people sitting outside drinking, loud outdoor mobile chats, stationery cars outside your house with loud throbbing music, engine running, shouty mobile chats, cars with loud music parked in middle of the road having shouty chats with someone in a house, builders working all day shouting and sweating etc etc Really really wearing. -
Why not name the business? It would alert others to be prepared for this and the business always has the opportunity to post and refute if applicable.

Barry Parade/Peckham Rye Corner Planning Proposal
cella replied to moni69's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Slight deviation on less than sites. I was waiting at the bus stop opposite ED Station earlier and had time to look at the site there. Looks pretty tacky and they've just taped up the damage to the corner that was knocked into recently. That mock brick cladding looks as though it's superglued on - not sure I would be buying. Not sure what Southwark's role in the finished article might be but surely new buildings must pass some sort of standards test? -

Local councillors who never respond
cella replied to Lee Scoresby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think one of the original points I was making Penguin was that they are elected on a broad manifesto and of course will assist their constituents but cannot be expected to become embroiled in the minutiae of some things just because they are an elected councillor - that isn't the role. -

Lee - your original post raised an issue about getting a response from elected councillors. Lots of posters, including myself, offered help in progressing that - don't know if you've had a chance to follow up on any of them? Perhaps you can let us know the outcome. Subsequent posters were replying to each other and it appears you've interpreted them in a personal and negative way. Shame as what you've chosen to call patronising and bizarre are genuine responses from people who feel strongly about democracy. You've also assumed that all posters are Labour supporters which may not be the case. -
Missing tree in Whateley Road......I think
cella replied to Alan Medic's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We were told the same recently but Southwark are resisting. Our next door neighbours settled their claim and had the necessary work done last year so it's very hard to pin this on the tree. -

As mentioned earlier I think politicians are elected to vote along their own and party manifesto lines. So we vote them in then they act appropriately along those lines. They would be torn apart if they tried to only represent the many and diverse demands of their constituents. We can then vote them out if necessary - this is democracy. -

Yes we can moan and groan about lots of things. I think a lot of people are disenfranchised from politics or are uninformed about our political system generally. Some have an unreal expectation about what politicians roles are and demand that they get involved in the absolute minutiae of their domestic lives and if that doesn't happen for whatever reason they become cynical about politicians in general. IMHO we elect politicians on a manifesto and then they make decisions/vote on that basis. The most important thing is that they are then held accountable for their own and their party decisions and we can then vote them out if necessary. It's a precious right and lots if people treat it in a cavalier fashion I feel. Alongside this we can campaign and pracefully demonstrate about issues and this, historically, is the main way legislation is introduced/gets changed. One of the many great things about living in a democracy and, yes, with all its current flaws, one of the best countries in the world to live. Consider the alternatives.... -

Its depressing when people don't exercise their hard won democratic vote. It's rarely a useful protest and means they have no formal route to channel their views. Maybe use that anger to pursue them publically. -

It is right that all elected councillors reply to their electorate. Clearly they need to be approached in a civil and courteous manner and if it's support for a cause they don't agree with people may not necessarily get the response they want. Councillors are elected on a party manifesto so there will be differences in views and what they can support. If, however, they just haven't responded at all then maybe copy the issue to the relevant portfolio holder and also to the Leader of the Council who may help in accelerating a response. -
Thanks so much for this. We will probably go down this route as the cost of a new meter may prove prohibitive.

Not sure they will want archaic ac systems belching on to them!

Whenever I get calls like these I just very quickly say thanks but it's not for me and put the phone down. Life's too short to make a hobby out of them with trying to think up different ways of annoying the callers. It's a shame but they are only trying to earn a crust.

It was on in the gym yesterday afternoon but a bit random depending on where you are in the room! The upstairs rooms have portable ac units which are incredibly noisy so a quick blast at the beginning of the class and that has to do for the remainder unless you want to be deafened. EveryoneActive has never resolved the ac/heating problems inherited from the previous owners and are still in dispute with the council. So the customers are caught in their battle annoyingly.

You are posting strangely. It was me that didn't need an answer.

What are you talking about? I don't need an answer.

Seriously, calling council workers scumbags for doing their jobs when the op is clearly in the wrong - totally out of order.

Noisy children playing outside at 6am!
cella replied to craigyboy71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
One of the main challenges with the recent hot spell is that perfectly friendly and sociable people/neighbours seem to behave differently when in the confines of their own gardens. So bbqs with loud music, shouty people getting progressively intoxicated, glasses smashing, children screaming etc etc. I totally get that as we see so little sun normally people are grabbing every opportunity to be outside entertaining friends as we do ourselves but it's as if they are in a bubble and forget to consider their neighbours. I did suggest to next door that after a gathering that started at 11am and was still going (loudly) at 1 in the morning that they turn the music down a tad as it was reverberating against our bedroom wall - they did but there's a bit of an atmosphere. -
I thought Khans interview was brilliant - he was very clear and reasonable on every point.

True possibly - we just need a mechanism for working out a fair share on the Bills.

We live in a Victorian house divided into 2 flats and are joint freeholders. The "landlords" electricity for the outside security lamp and the joint hall etc is channelled through the ground floor flat's meter. We are considering installing a meter to resolve this and just wondered if anyone has experience of doing this and what the potential cost, if any, might be. We can of course contact the electricity company but just asking here first.
