What's with the police chases on Friern Road
Saila replied to rlw_home's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My other half was running to catch the train the other day and got chased by a police car (!) and then questioned. He got a lift the rest of the way (still missed the train though..) -
what can you do with a four month old baby?
Saila replied to Saila's topic in The Family Room Discussion
this is all great! thanks so much and i'm annoyed i didn't ask earlier... I will try all the above i particularly like the tv recommendation. I'm all for cheating ideas and i have already tried to stick him in front of the dreaded channel 623 BUT then realised he was equally entertained (if not more) by bloomberg tv (!) I think it was the black and white strap line did the trick thanks very much (on behalf of all the mums of 4 mnth olds out there) x -
what can you do with a four month old baby?
Saila replied to Saila's topic in The Family Room Discussion
thanks echo - we do do lots of organised baby activities but it's the time at home that we're struggling with any indoor ideas? he's awake 7am until 8:30am then 9:30 until 12pm (sometimes baby activity) Then 2pm until 4pm (we are always out) so it's the morning slots (i.e. now) that i find myself online cos i'm bored and he's bored.. .and it doesn't seem fair on him etc.... so we've been doing things like looking at music vids on Youtube ('prince charming' adam ant's his favourite) and singing along. Or i put a toy in front of him and encourage him to grab and poke it. i'm still in pjs (have breakfast & shower during his first nap) so going out isn't possible at this time and getting up at 6:50 is a struggle most days. -
My 4 month old is tired of his play gym and the various toys he has. I'm not surprised really - they're pretty dull and it's all he has. I sing with him and go out for walks but as he gradually stays awake for longer each day he needs more and more attention and entertaining. Apart from singing and taking for walks - can i pick your brains for fun game ideas with a four month old? Or inexpensive but great toys that keeps them entertained. He's very strong for his age. Can nearly sit up on his own and stands (aided obviously) so toys that need that would work. thanks in advance (bored mum and baby)

Has the ED housing market reached the bottom yet ( II )
Saila replied to snorky's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We traded up and completely fluked the timing of it (feb last year) i had a flat and my partner didn't own a property we used the equity in my flat to buy a 3 bed and effectively 'geared up' (sorry) using the second mortgage belonging to my partner so in the resulting rise we should have benefitted more than if we had stayed put i'm firmly in the 'double-dip camp' though but we chose to gear up for baby reasons death, dole, divorce edit to say - is it me or does that cat look very alive? ;) -

I've posted it up on EDF in case people would like to join John Beasley in his campaign

We are at MGMP and the nurses seem ok and doctors are fine but the reception staff have a strange attitude. They have a poor manner unfortunately which lets the practice down.

sorry if i'm repeating someone but here goes... our baby kept waking at 3am from about 6 wks old to 2.5mnths. I wasn't that sleep deprived by this one stop feed at 3am as he fed quite quickly. However at 2.5months old we moved him into his own room. He slept through two nights later for the first time and has ever since. We also swaddled him at first to stop his jerky arm movements waking himself up. I put him down awake from the very beginning (gina ford advice) and at first he did cry for 5-10mins or so b4 going to sleep. If longer it was because he was still hungry. Now he doesn't cry at all when he's put down, just winges a little and falls asleep. Oh and the baby monitor on LOW sensitivty really helped too! i think they're not meant to have more than 4 hours during the day (7am-7pm) at about 3months?? saying that mine sleeps a little longer cos he neeeds more than the average baby his age it seems. I do go on his signals like that 'coughing cry' which tells me he's getting tired. Much more than 4hrs can disrupt their nighttime sleep apparently. This is all very GF but it has really worked for me and the baby's seems very happy with it

Hello I'm about a couple of months away from weaning but I wanted to begin preparing for it Does anyone have any good tips on what equipment i may need to buy? Any recommendations for certain steamers (i don't have that much kitchen work space) Also I will be returning to work at approximatley the same time so i'd be leaning towards a convenient and easy approach to weaning rather than teh most time consuming methods, if that makes sense .e.g i'm open to using the microwave and taking short cuts whereever possible thanks in advance xxx

yes. - lots of threads on this knocking around in archives i put my son down 12 months BEFORE he was conceived he is now 3 months old and he hasn't got a place at our nursery ... we're now going down nanny route there are some nurseries with places but i can't vouch for their desirability....

> "Having said that, I breastfed for a long time because I found it easy and convenient" There's nothing more convenient than someone else doing a feed ;) - but totally agree BF when it's a middle-of-the-night feed is easier than sorting out a bottle... re weight -when i was BF my appetite was sky high still. It was the same as when i was pregnant. Moreover the food i ate was really bad quick/easy food (chocolate) because i was just too busy organising the baby to drum up anything more healthy I wish i could have succeeded at BF but i can't deny the liberation i felt once i decided (finally after double mastitis near hospitalised, thrush & a dehydrated baby who ended up in special care) to drop it. -
No.. i always thought it was expensive and s**t

...'something wrong when you need to earn over 100k a year to buy a modest family home in a nice-ish suburb.' much more acceptable for woman to work nowadays so 2x ?50k isn't that unusual? double incomes push up prices in this sort of area -
Dulwich Asquith Nursery???? (contains dubious post)
Saila replied to Saila's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I don't think people would normally jump on a first time poster - I would never even look to see if they were a first time poster had i not been made suspicioius by that fake post... 'Crying wolf' comes to mind I think what katgod said was very poignant though. Childcare is already highly emotional and difficult for parents Unfortunately this will only add to already existing worries/concerns. That was not the intention of my original post at all - sorry. However I personally don't think the feedback was overly 'getting at' the nursery they were honest and balanced. -
Dulwich Asquith Nursery???? (contains dubious post)
Saila replied to Saila's topic in The Family Room Discussion
3 posts if you include the post sent from the nursery itself on the 9th ....and 2x 100% faultless reports like the last time as well ... it doesn't smell right Edit to say that i took baby-Saila off their list last week and we're going for alternative childcare arrangements The dubious message(s?) (and the fellow forumite's experiences) posted from the nursery put us right off... -
I had a similar bout with my then 10 week old a few weeks ago It was explained to me (by a baby doctor) that milk was the best thing as it rehydrates. Milk provides both nutrients and water to properly rehydrate Is better than water alone and much much better than solid food That explaination seemed logical to me Edit to say: asda have a '3 for ?10' nappy offer at the moment. Their nappies are the best value IMO. Just like pampers at fraction of the cost. Assuming you're using disposables Good luck with it and hope it gets better. Ours lasted about 3-4 days.
